Senate Republicans surged in Pa., Ohio, but N.C. is tight: poll

Vulnerable Senate Republicans have widened their leads over Democratic challengers in Ohio and Pennsylvania, pollsters said Wednesday, though Senate contests in other swing states are dead heats or too close to call — buoying Democrats who say they’re gaining momentum after high-profile stumbles by Donald Trump and down-ballot candidates.

The Quinnipiac University Poll said Sen. Richard Burr, North Carolina Republican, is tied with Democratic challenger Deborah Ross at 46 percent apiece, forcing the GOP to grapple with a closer-than-expected race in the Tarheel State.

In Florida, meanwhile, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio’s lead over Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy has shrunk to 4 percentage points from 7 points one month ago.

The GOP incumbent’s lead has been consistent, pollsters said, though his margin “has never been large enough to make Sen. Rubio comfortable.”

However Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio Republican, has maintained a double-digit lead over former Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland — 55-38 percent — prompting many prognosticators to put that race in the GOP column with weeks to go before Election Day.

In Pennsylvania, Republican Sen. Pat Toomey has surged to an 8-percentage point lead over Democratic challenger Katie McGinty.

Though down in key Rust Belt states, Democrats say a debate-stage stumble by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire Republican, on Monday might have been the turning point they needed to swing her seat to Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan.

Mrs. Ayotte struggled to say whether she’d call Mr. Trump a role model for children, but eventually said she “absolutely” would.

Though Mrs. Ayotte later said she misspoke, the Hassan campaign spun her comment in a campaign ad that juxtaposes the debate response with clips of Mr. Trump’s bombastic behavior, from mocking Mrs. Clinton’s bout with pneumonia at a 9/11 event in New York to criticizing a Miss Universe winner

This is so high stakes, and even a hair can tip the balance.

I wish there was more polling from Indiana, where Todd Young has been gaining ground on Evan Bayh.

why didn’t see just say “over a murderer of americans, a hundred million dollar thief, a destroyer of evidence, a woman who supports genital mutilation in the ME, and many more things, yes.

I’m not that smart and this was any easy one. But I KNOW the feeling of pressure in one situation or another as we all do and it can freeze your brain

Maybe if Burr and Rubio had sided with the citizens and the rule of law instead of illegal aliens and their employers they wouldn’t be in trouble.

RCP put out an Ohio Monmouth poll that swings 7% in Clinton's favor from Trump +5% in a Quinnipiac poll to Clinton +2% in the Monmouth poll just two days apart.

Unbelievable.

It would be much more than symbolic. His hand-picked successor is a far lefty that will make Dingy Harry look like Reagan by comparison. I feel good about Dr Heck’s chances, given the deluge of ads on both internet and TV, plus Nevadans are just ready for change.

I know he wears an R jersey, but Heck is still a Cheap Labor Express stooge. He is not on the side of the citizens and the rule of law.

I guess Toomey’s pro-gun control ad campaign is working.

Quinnipiac showed Clinton ahead of Trump by 4 points in PA, just 1 or 2 days ago. It isn’t believable that Toomey is ahead by 8 points and Trump behind by 4.

12 points between the Presidential and Senatorial Republican candidates. That amount of split ticket voting would shock me.

My guess is Toomey and Trump both win PA.

It’s hard for McGinty to argue that line when he has Sandy Hook family members in ads for him.

I don’t see how his NRA rating makes him vulnerable against that.

Most of those Republicans voting yes on the internet giveaway were also Cheap Labor Express stooges. I saw two, Grassley and Vitter, who were not.

Monmouth polls are useless. They seem to show massive swings for Clinton in the last week, and there is no way voters change their minds that quick off one debate, when they know about Clinton;s corruption and lies.

Burr, Ayotte and Portman ALL support homosexual marriage and transgenders in the military. They can go rot in hell.

Burr, especially since he is from a conservative southern state.
