One might argue that a sexual predator deserves such a fate. But Austin isn't a sexual predator. He didn't assault anyone, or send child porn. By one important measure, he is a child himself: the age of consent in Wisconsin is 18, which means Austin is technically under-age, just like the girlfriend he is accused of exploiting.

This cop is rather creepy. The prosecution of some horny kid is way over the top.
As the article mentions, Wisconsin is one of the few exceptions.

Sounds a bit like they are prosecuting a compass for pointing north. Not suggesting 17 yo boys and 15 yo girls are mature enough to engage in sex, but they do and need guidance more than prosecution.
Remembering back when I was a 16 year old kid, it's a good thing I never "scored"...Unfortunately you have to at least get to first base.
Yes, here in NY if they see Facebook posts of the girl or boy acknowledging the relationship, cops won’t pursue statutory rape charges. Especially if they are close in age.
For what it’s worth, for most of human history 17 year-old boys (but usually somewhat older so they could afford a wife) and 15 year-old girls were considered to be adults. In modern times we’ve created an extended childhood for older teenagers. No doubt for lots of good reasons, but that darned biology just keeps interfering with our good intentions. Biologically, they are adults.
Some guys will literally go to the ends of the Earth to get away from their ex's.
While its not good for a 17 year old boy to have sex with a 15 year old girl, somehow it does not seem as bad to me as a full grown man doing it. Maybe because its less lopsided in what they bring to the relationship. If say a 57 year old man is doing a 15 year old girl, what is he really offering her? Its clear what he is getting, but she can’t be somebody he respects and loves, which is what a girl’s heart needs in return. Its more likely such a man either forced himself, or she was exploited by prostitution, or she was deceived as to his intentions. In the case of the 17 year old boy, it seems more plausible it was a loving give and take relationship...but still a bad idea at that age and regrettable.
If I were these Kids Parents, I would enlist Every Last Student I could find to dig up Sexual Exploits by GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES CHILDREN, Force the DA ti INDICT HIS OWN CHILD or a Good Friends., Hell maybe even the COPS that Arrested and Charged Him.

Why isn’t the girl also being charged under the same statute? Her “victim” is also underage.
