Build the Wall. #1
Trump will make spending blunders.
Big media will also blame Trump for the last 30 years of big spending. Trump’s fault.
If he proceeds with this stupid idea, it should only apply to married couples.
Divorced mothers are out of luck, huh?
I work at a chemical plant. Once a female confirms she is pregnant, she is off for a year....period! Wish they cared about my testicle content like that.
Motivated women will use the internet to stay involved in their jobs, assuming they have an internet-accesible job function. Women who work with their hands such as in manufacturing may need more time to find good childcare, once they see whether they have a good sleeper or a fussy baby, etc.
The real challenging time with baby care, in my opinion, is between 11 months and whenever they achieve toliet training (2 to 3 years old). It’s very difficult to entrust them to just any provider, but it’s past time for mom to go back to work. The first year they just eat and sleep a lot, and are easier to contain or to be cared for. When they start walking, but are still in diapers and can’t benefit from “nursery school”, the dangers mount.
I am glad it worked out for your family. My sister sacrificed her career then her husband was laid off. He started his own company, but they are in a precarious position.
My mother worked when both my sister and I were young (she was 3 and I was 8). I was a one of the first key latch kids and was responsible for walking 1/2 mile to pick her up and come home and then walk home. We loved our independence. This was in Chicago, a lower class neighborhood. My parents survived WW2 so they were tough and they taught us to be tough. I thank them for that to this day.
These ideas result in fewer and fewer children. What if the Democrats offer ten weeks? Where does it end? The Federal Government is a sorry substitute for a husband.
Not sure why Ivanka Trump, prospective First Daughter, needs a “signature issue.” That’s a fat stretch.
Hope it at least steals some of Pickles’ thunder.
The root of the problem, the cause is the devaluation of the dollar.
Why not reverse how the dollar has been so devalued (for decades) that women were FORCED to go to work and leave the care of their children to (often) strangers, in order to survive.
Back in the 1950’s, we reacted with shock and horror when we heard how those poor Soviet women had to actually leave their babies in the care of others, and work at jobs outside the home! Socialism! Communism!
Used to be a family of five could live well on just the father’s income. Then, as they devalued the dollar, more and more women had to work outside the home to provide that second income.
Properly revalue the dollar, follow the Constitution of LIMITED GOV’T and SPENDING, and women won’t have to get credit for “child care”. They can stay home and raise their children themselves, with their values and religious beliefs.
Those of us old enough may remember mothers at home, in a calm, un-frenzied environment, focused on their children. They did not stick them in front of the TV or computer to babysit them while the exhausted mother rushes to make dinner and start her night job= homemaker, wife, and mother.
As a retired teacher, I can tell you I would always notice a change in the students behavior as soon as the mom worked outside the home. Day care centers for children are like zoos are for animals.
If you have them, raise them yourselves, (WHENEVER POSSIBLE!!)
JUST MY OPINION.
Just for the tally book, how would this work in a small start-up business that has just the owner and one employee?
“I think the six week maternity leave is already a given for big companies.”
But in the rush for votes why limit it to just maternity leave? New daddies have emotions too . . . and there is the need for them to bond . . . and all the extra burdens on the family, etc. Shouldn’t both Parent 1 and Parent 2 be home for AT LEAST SIX WEEKS? Some experts say 9 weeks would be better and attract more votes . . .
Fine with me.
Your argument is really nonsensical and exposes why so many conservatives fail to see the bigger picture. How many women do you know that have a baby and are back to work in a week or two, or even four or six? Answer is none. So the question is really who is going to pay for the six weeks, not whether the employer will be without their employee. So again, in the larger context of the election, whatever small price this costs is worth it to keep Hillary out. Put another way, would you trade this program to get rid of ObamaCare and deporting illegals? Stop being myopic and focus.
Spoken like someone who has never been personally responsible for making payroll!!! Advocating for spending other people’s money it hour any thought for the consequences! Spoken like a true liberal.
Yes...business owners should lay off others or cut salaries for the “greater good”.
How about letting the market decide? If a company wants to entice employees by offering that, they should. If they don’t want to offer paid 6 weeks of leave that should be fine, as well.
For some perspective...since it’s obvious that you have never run a real business....6 weeks of an average engineer with benefits costs us about $48k. Where should that money come from?
“So the question is really who is going to pay for the six weeks, not whether the employer will be without their employee.”
So, who is going to pay? And what is the cost?
And exactly where in the Constitution do you find federal authority to mandate maternity leave?
The woman can be granted unemployment for the 6 weeks!!!
The plan IS u employment benefits DID YOU READ THE PLAN!!!!
Who knew that Trump was pregnant? :)
I don't know what your statement means - unless it means the program won't cost anyone anything.
If it is totally free, or will just cost insurance companies, then yeah, sure. I was concerned that taxpayers or insurance ratepayers, or business owners or consumers would foot the bill for a big, new entitlement program.
But if it is free government money, yeah, what could go wrong?
