Posted on 08/28/2016 9:04:12 AM PDT by JLAGRAYFOX

The media pumped up film " Southside With You", the story of the first date between Michelle & Barack Obama bombs badly on it first weekend release with a miserable three (3M) revenue intake. The movie finished #13 among the movies this weekend, not a good showing at all. Nothing more needs to be said!!! The horrible revenue numbers speak for themselves.

Well you have to factor in the number of theaters it was released in too.

Obviously there’s not a strong appeal to this fantasy. Hence, only eight hundred threates release. It’s only for the kool-aid drinkers.

I watched the trailer. It looks idiotic. They are nearly angelic. It looks awful, like a children's movie.

Southside With You (RSA/MAX/IMG), 813 theaters / $1M Fri (includes $75K previews) / 3-day cume: $3M / Wk 1

I have scoured and scoured the internet for that one photo of the both of them at some function, ostensibly and organizer function which is in black and what and shows the ‘lovely’ couple in all their glory. From it, once could see the pallets and pallets of product need to transform her and him to icons of fashion an hip cool.

A movie about sewer rats would probably have better ticket sales and be a whole lot more interesting.

Sorry it was released in 813 movie theaters and only drew $1,000,000 on Friday evening, devastating failure revenue and viewer attendance. As the weekend progressed it only dropped lower. This flick will be lucky to gross $10M in total. The unofficial cost of the film was $5M (estimated)...but that does not include the high dollar advertising campaign. IMHO, this flick will not make any money for the investors or producers at all...maybe something like fifty cents!!! Both Clinton & Obama are not selling well!!! Folks, our USA media lies big time for “Big Brother”!!! Beware of false leaders!!!

According to Box office mojo on 8/26/2016 it was released to 800 theaters and it made about $1,022,300. and it was ranked # 11.

On 8/27/2016 it went way to to the bottom of the list and the number of theaters is blank and the dollar amount was the same as Fridays take. Maybe they pulled the movie or they just won’t report on it because it was so dismal.

I'm thinking that 75% of the people who went to see this didn't know in advance what it was about.

Heck, I wouldn't even go to see a movie like this about a President & First Lady that I LIKED!

A gunfight is likely to erupt in the gun free zones. The people that are attracted to this movie are likely to be of the persuasion that are more likely to commit gun and assault crimes.

I know the one you mean. Where they are sitting at a table side by side and both frowning.

Apparently it has been “disappeared.”

I don’t understand. “All Critics” on Rotten Tomatoes give it a 93% rating.

“A gentle, rose-tinted piece of political nostalgia-one that glances at the divisions in American society, but still casts a optimistic view toward whatever’s next.”

“If you can set politics aside for 80 delightful minutes, even the staunchest Republicans will swoon over “Southside with You.”

And Roger Ebert gives it his top rating:

“This down-to-earth approach works surprisingly well because “Southside with You” never loses sight of the primary tenet of a great romantic comedy: All you need is two people whom the audience wants to see get together—then you put them together...

...“Southside with You” is at once a love song to the city of Chicago and its denizens, an unmistakably Black romance and a gentle, universal comedy. It is unapologetic about all three of these elements, and interweaves them in such a subtle fashion that they become more pronounced only upon later reflection...

... The two manage to create a beautiful tribute to enduring love in just under 90 minutes, making “Southside with You” an irresistibly romantic and rousing success...”

http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/southside-with-you-2016

And NBC News says:

” When writing the film, Tanne tuned out of political news and debates and laser-beam focused on the personal story of the Obamas in the hopes of conveying a relationship which could inspire others.

The result: a genuinely romantic film which provides subtle insights into the personas of two figures who are too often labeled unknowable. “

Surely these reviewers aren’t letting their reviews be shaped by their politics? Can they?

It had only a $1.5m budget, comparable to a typical Lifetime channel made for TV movie. It also opened in a modest 813 theaters.

Guess what Roger...the audience does NOT want to see those two.

If I were you...I would not fret too much. $3M dollar for a release weekend is like taking in three cents. It is a laughable number. An average decent flick takes in about $25-35M revenue for an opening weekend...a blockbuster, takes in between $75-100M per opening weekend!!! Believe me, Harvey Weinstein & John Legend are down on Harvey’s office rug in Hollywood crying!!!
