On the way back to the Olympic Village, we pulled into a convenience store to use the restroom. There was no restroom inside, so we foolishly relieved ourselves on the backside of the building behind some bushes. There was a locked door out back and I did not witness anyone breaking it open. I am unsure why, but while we were in that area, Ryan pulled to the ground a framed metal advertisement that was loosely anchored to the brick wall. I then suggested to everyone that we needed to leave the area and we returned to the taxi.

You can go ahead and defend these guys actions. It doesn’t amount to a hill of beans, frankly. This guy Lochte’s ride is over and the one’s on his team trying back him up and keeping themselves out of trouble.
How about all the other superstars that don’t superstar their way through fame and fortune? The ones that work and slave and take their sports seriously? Take a look at some of the shooters juxtaposed against some of these swimmers.
I’m just not gonna South Park Team America “F@ck Yeah!” my impression and thoughts about all this RIO crap. I don’t really think we have anything more to say to each other about it, actually. Thanks for your thoughts.
NBC reviewed the story, and showed a damaged door frame - unclear whether it was THE door or just a stock photo.
How convenient. No one can photograph the damaged restroom because no one in the country has a camera. Just take their word for it, the damage ran to the tune of $14,000.
According to this narrative the four US athletes left an event at 6:00 AM that was attended by other swimmers from several countries, and were headed back to Olympic Village in a taxi. This really begs the question, what kind of “event” closes out at that hour of the day?
Where is your evidence that the property owned held them hostage for $11,000?
I can see how Ryan Lochte believed he was robbed at gunpoint. Easy assumption to make. The Brazilian government let this get way out of hand. I’m not saying the four boys were perfect. Still this could be taken for extortion.
Well if given the choice to believe overtly, blatantly corrupt Brazilians or to extend even a measure of the benefit of the doubt to people who have obviously been extorted, don’t be shocked if I don’t jump on the Brazilians’ bandwagon. Their corruption reeks all the way to here, and their credibility cuts no mustard with me.
I think everybody who’s spent time in Brazil can tell a version of the same story. Speeding, cop, cash, and good day and good driving to y’all. That being said, Brazil is far from unique in having a law enforcement system that runs on bribes. Cops have hungry kids like the rest of us and, like waiters and waitresses, their real income is in “tips”.
“This really begs the question, what kind of event closes out at that hour of the day?”
Most nightclubs in Rio.
So they payed up on the spot at gun point and were allowed to leave the country? I thought they were apprehended on the plane and held in Brazil until they coughed up the additional $11,000.
Don’t harass me about which entity extorted what. Find somebody else to split hairs with. The final extortion was at least $14,000—probably more. If you like it that way, then Rio is your kind of town.
+1
This story started out with blind belief of the elitist's account and then became something different emerges, didn't it. And yet that original 'belief' is still clutching through a myriad of excuses and allowances.
Hillary Clinton is an elitist and American who has been out of this country. Are you prepare to give her the same sort of unquestioned loyalty?
We just differ - significantly. Let's just leave it at that.
Everything I need to know about Rio I learned from this video:

It’s beginning to sound like Lochte was right ... but he exaggerated.
Well I guess we’d better go back and convict the Duke lacrosse players after all. They were rich and privileged—elitists—and not only was there alcohol on the premises, they actually hired strippers. They were so guilty, they should never have been let off the hook.
They paid 35 bucks for the damage , not 14 grand.
The 14 grand went to the city of RIO as a get out of charges/jail bribe. The station owner gets none of that money.
If the IOC would revoke all the medals these little thugs earned at the games, this crap would come to a screeching halt. But criminal and thug behavior is now a part of professional sports.
Guilty until proven innocent—has a nice ring to it.
I never said anything about Duke, actually. You’re the one that believes Americans - it seems any American - over foreigners. I gave you an example of an ‘American’ overseas and you pull Duke out of your keester. Nice work.
I have been to Rio several times and understand how things work and understand that when you are in a foreign country that you are subject to their laws and tradition of corruption.
The swimmers were acting like drunken idiots, peeing on the building and ripping down a sign on someone else’s property.
Any one of those actions would get you arrested in any town in the United States.
However, making up the story about being robbed by cops and having a gun held to your head is absolutely moronic.
Had they kept their mounts shut, there would have been no story at all and the Rio authorities would have never gotten involved.
The swimmers deserve a Gold Medal for Stupidity.
I mentioned Duke because you seem to believe rich, privileged athletes are always guilty.
