So they payed up on the spot at gun point and were allowed to leave the country? I thought they were apprehended on the plane and held in Brazil until they coughed up the additional $11,000.

Don’t harass me about which entity extorted what. Find somebody else to split hairs with. The final extortion was at least $14,000—probably more. If you like it that way, then Rio is your kind of town.

I have been to Rio several times and understand how things work and understand that when you are in a foreign country that you are subject to their laws and tradition of corruption.

The swimmers were acting like drunken idiots, peeing on the building and ripping down a sign on someone else’s property.

Any one of those actions would get you arrested in any town in the United States.

However, making up the story about being robbed by cops and having a gun held to your head is absolutely moronic.

Had they kept their mounts shut, there would have been no story at all and the Rio authorities would have never gotten involved.

The swimmers deserve a Gold Medal for Stupidity.
