Dishwasher and Washer Design Victim of EPA and Dept of Energy Stupidity.

My dishwasher and my washer are victims of the EPA and the DOE.

I need the dishwasher to let in more water to wash correctly

I need the washer to have a higher level in the tub, in order to meet guidelines

My daughter is now on her second “new” dishwasher in the past year. Neither one of them has worked correctly. I’m hoping my 10 year old dishwasher can hold out.

Millions around the world would think washer and dishwasher discharges potable water ...

My washer supposedly determines the amount of clothes I put in, and adjusts the water level accordingly.

In reality, it fills the tub halfway. To make it fill all the way for a big load, I open the lid, and it fills up.

Of course, if I want to add a sock to a small load, it fills all the way up.

Wasn’t a small/medium/large button for the user simpler than some kind of sensor in the machine?

Apparently in Britain, people bought up old stock vacuum cleaners when an upper limit was placed on wattage.

No, you can’t suck up all the dirt and dog hair! Sweep first, and go over the carpet three times!

A lot of them have process control software and need an upgrade.

My wife figured it out: buy a 5 pound weight and place it on top after you load it so that the sensors detect more weight; thus causing it to add more water— stick it to the man.

That's genius! I knew about the TSP, but not this trick.

My washer is 11 years old and last winter I had a repair on it.

I said to the repairmen that I would replace it the next time anything needed fixing and he said “Do not replace it,the new ones are virtually impossible to repair easily?”

I even would have bought it from the local company for which he worked but he said repairing would be better.

Totally understand! Replaced the motor on the Maytag dryer rather than get a new one. A friend from Belgium warned me years ago about their front loading machines being too small and inefficient compared to our (old) machines. I feel your pain. And that sob ‘two-flush’ Gore has a special place waiting for him where his epa friends will be!

Is someone taking notes on all this to send to President-In-Waiting Trump?

Lol. Nothing they can’t screw up. Fluorescent light bulbs that not only don’t provide the warm light of an incandescent but are a hazard if broken. Low flush toilets that take three flushes to work. Ethanol added to gasoline that will clog the carb in any two cycle engine in a few seasons of use.

And now I have a washing machine that produces great smelling clothes. Granted, this only because there’s not enough water to actually rinse out the detergent.

Progress indeed /sarc.

speaking of lightbulbs, I literally write the installation date with a sharpie on each screwball light. They barely last 18 months.

I can actually smell an older car in traffic now.

Not a tree hugger by any stretch but the catastrophic converter actually does work. However it doesn’t reduce NOx just the unspent hydrocarbons

Our Samsung dishwasher generally does a good job on the quick setting; occasionally I’ll need to use regular. I’ve never used the Heavy duty setting. A lot better job than the ‘American’ model that didn’t last long.

I went a little upscale with my Kenmore washer - it has 5 water levels and temp settings and is top loading. You couldn’t give me a front loader as a gift.

I saw the inside of a cat convertor that was plugged up. Basically a block version of the screen on your window. Exactly WHAT is this supposed to be filtering??!!!

[Then there are the low flow toilets. You have to flush them twice to get them to work.]

I drilled out the bowl fill tube orifice to put more water in the bowl during a tank refill between flushes.

Can’t modify all of them but did it on a Kohler Highline.

Gives you about another 1/4 gallon for a better flush.

Long runs of 4” lead caulked cast iron waste lines in some houses are really becoming problematic with clogging from these low flows. Not enough water to fully flush them out between flushes so it just builds back and clogs. One house I had to tear out about 25 feet of it and replace it with 4” plastic pitched higher to the house trap.

They could actually downsize to 3” now with the same amount of toilets on a line.

One customer that I did the above toilet modification for had clogs two to three times a year. Now none.

Absolute nightmare.

I am not going to say how old my dishwasher is but our 40th anniversary is 09/11/2016.
Actually, I hand wash 100% of our silver and dish ware.
