My dishwasher and my washer are victims of the EPA and the DOE.
I need the dishwasher to let in more water to wash correctly

I know what you mean. My new Maytag dishwasher cleans very poorly. The old one left the glasses sparkling clean. This one, they’re a bit cloudy and scummy. The new one says it uses only two gallons of water. So what if it doesn’t clean the dishes? Oh, and it takes almost THREE hours to do a poor job.

My dishwasher is actually pretty good, about a year old: KitchenAid.... my washer is a front loading Sears... that was a mistake. I was familiar with European front loading machines which clean clothes like nothing I’d seen. I now know the difference... the Euro machines HEAT the water to a higher temp. My grandmother can set hers to boil for whites, they come out spotless. My American version that’s energy efficient... meh and you’re right, they need more water. Online I found some tips... people are pouring extra water into the pre wash container in the drawer where you put detergent.
I recently pulled a 40 yr old KitchenAid roll around d/w that had been sitting in the basement for 35 years to convert to under the counter to replace the d/w that came with the house. Works GREAT - only takes an hour, gets dishes clean, only uses hot water. It’s a miracle...
Same here. The old ones worked great. The new ones suck....and cost twice as much.
To help get the "spots" off your dishes and glasses, pick-up some Trisodium Phosphate, TSP, at your local hardware store and add a TBSP per load.
Then there are the low flow toilets. You have to flush them twice to get them to work.
Older toilets only need one flush.
There are boatloads of stuff the EPA messed up.
They demanded 410A refrigerant as more “energy efficient” but it eats compressors like there’s no tomorrow causing constant leakage. Just how is that more “environment friendly?”
Bring back the old R22 refrigerant that worked like a CHARM.
Then there’s those stupid gas tanks where I spill more gas than the old gas tanks.
Then there’s catalytic convertors where here in the Peoples Republic of NY, you have to shell out 1K to replace it in a Chevy Express Van to be “50 state compliant” (brought to you by Kalifornia and the PRofNY)

My wife figured it out: buy a 5 pound weight and place it on top after you load it so that the sensors detect more weight; thus causing it to add more water— stick it to the man.
What is your problem? Don’t you know that once water is used, it is gone forever? It isn’t as though it can be recycled...

Sounds like there might be a great new business opportunity in retrofitting these crap new dishwashers.
I might have to look into it.
TSP is banned in New York. So is the “good” pesticide to kill mosquitos called “Suspend SC”
Have I mentioned my daughter and son-in-law live in Southern PA? wink wink
A big issue is that a lot of them now don’t have a heated dry cycle. When you buy check inside to see if it actually has a heating element.
To say nothing of lawn mowers that don’t like gasoline and don’t work unless you rebuild the carb every time you need it. a (Do NOT buy a Troy Bilt from Lowes).
I am wondering whether there are people or shops who can do go around for the current machines.
Or find me a good old one that is refurbished.
The water levels are fixable if you are intrpid enough.
There are floats inside that determine the water levels... Find them and adjust tgem
