Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said a family argument led to the shooting Friday evening at a home outside the Houston suburb of Fulshear. Christy Sheats, 42, convened the meeting in the living room of the home that was attended by her husband Jason Sheats, and her daughters, Taylor Sheats, 22, and Madison Sheats, 17, according to the sheriff's office.

"During that meeting, Christy Sheats held up a gun and shot both girls," the sheriff's office said.

Jason Sheats and the daughters ran outside where Madison Sheats collapsed and died. Jason Sheats ran to the end of the cul-de-sac.

Christy Sheats shot Taylor Sheats one more time on the street. A witness told investigators Christy Sheats then went back into the home, reloaded her gun and shot Taylor once more.

When officers arrived, they saw Christy Sheats shooting one of her daughters in the street, the sheriff's office said.

An officer fatally shot Christy Sheats after she refused to obey commands to drop her handgun. Taylor Sheats was taken to a Houston hospital, where she died.

The one where intelligent people converse. Did I get the wrong one?

BTW, it should be “What thread did you want TO post to?”

About 12 years ago where I grew up....my dad related this story. At some local grocery (the Piggly Wiggly)....some guy gave another guy in the parking lot some ‘glare’. The guy receiving the ‘glare’ was pepped up on a fair amount of prescription drugs. He perceives some insult from the ‘glare’. As humorous as it may sound....this ends up in a tragic way.

The guy on the insult side....follows the guy who gave the glare for a fair distance...probably eight miles (various turns and twists), and on some state highway....he whips around the lead car and pushes the guy into the ditch....gets out of the car, and walks up to shoot the guy who gave the guy the glare. Dead.

Some witness came up at some point and viewed the whole act. Cops come, arrest the guy....charges....ends up in state prison instead of death sentence (don’t ask me how they avoided that deal). All because of some ‘glare’.

A few months after this....my dad had the cops come roaring by his place one night around 10PM (this is a very rural area) to stop a mile up the road by a rather new house. Ambulance comes. Lots of activity. He comes up at sun-up to ask what the heck happened.

The husband of this gal....was on his lazy-boy recliner and said something that flipped the wife. She comes up with a butcher knife and slices his throat. Luckily, she did a marginal job and his kids pull the wife off him, and calls the ambulance.

The wife walks calmly out of the house....then back through the woods (assuming through my dad’s farm) to some other road and a friend’s house. Cops arrest her the next day. Along this route, my dad commented later, there are typically a hundred copperhead snakes....so he didn’t understand how she walked that at night, and didn’t get bit.

Prosecutor couldn’t get the husband to press charges. What did come out was that she was all doped up on prescription pills...365 days out of the year.

I asked my dad if he noted any strange behavior from her (being a neighbor) and his farm-humor clicked in...he said he did note that she was the only neighbor around who mowed her grass in a bikini. Then he noted that he always thought it was odd that she mowed at least five days a week.

Waiting for people to start blaming innocent victim Jason Sheats for not being “brave enough” to protect his daughters.

Already happened on a previous thread. The suggestion from some of those who make up details for themselves when they are not yet known was that he was complicit.

They had 10 guns in the house. That’s over 2 per person. I can’t imagine someone packing at home constantly. This just makes gun owners look awful.

The husband seems like a weak type of guy. I bet that mother ruled the roost.

” I can’t imagine someone packing at home constantly. “

Most violence occurs at home. So why not? Home invasions are the most violent of all violent crimes.

I carry concealed all the time...and its a compact .45

Once I get home, until I go upstairs to secure my weapon, it stays on my hip...most of the time thats not till bedtime...

Obviuosly, I don’t find it uncomfortable.....

I did spend a fair amount of money on a high quality moulded leather holster......it makes the difference.....like shoes, not all holsters are comfortable so when you buy one, bring your gun and try it on.... walk around the store and don’t forget to sit down with it....

Materialism is the current core of those Gope who call themselves conservative. But the real core of conservatism is the natural law.

There is the possibility she may have been on psychotropic meds and stopped taking them.

I carry at home as well. I have a .38 revolver in a pocket holster. All my Pajama bottoms have pockets and the gun is in my pocket until I go to bed.

It would be foolish to not carry at home IMO. One cannot very well tell a home invader "but..but...this isn't fair! I'm at home in my pajamas!"

That's a pretty broad definition.

That makes a private transaction in my dining room part of a "gunshow loophole".

Screw that and screw them.

“Most violence occurs at home. So why not? Home invasions are the most violent of all violent crimes.”

Is there a higher incidence of home owners using a firearm to defend their family from a home invasion, or is there a higher incidence of a firearm in the home being accidentally discharged in the home causing death or injury, a gun used for a suicide or used during a family argument that results in injury or death?

I'm not completely sure of that broad sweeping statement, but you do have a point...

But the real core of conservatism is the natural law.

Bingo...

Ask 100 "conservatives" what natural law is and probably 75 % would look at you if you were a alien from another planet...

“The husband seems like a weak type of guy. I bet that mother ruled the roost.”

The dad’s problem is that he is saying ‘yes my wife had severe emotional problems and by the way, I let her carry her gun around the house during family arguments.”

the mother was a murderer...all the ifs, ands, and buts can not undo that fact....

if we knew what the domestic calls were that the cops responded to in the past, it would help tell the whole story...

but if it was the mother who had he problems, she should have never been able to get to the gun, although she could have grabbed a knife just as easily...
