Glenn Greenwald: The FBI was right not to arrest Omar Mateen before the shooting
Washington Post ^ | June 17, 2016 | Glenn Greenwald

Citizens should not forfeit their rights if they haven't committed a crime.

The massacre at an Orlando LGBT club has predictably provoked the same reaction as past terror attacks: recriminations that authorities should have done more to stop it in advance, accompanied by demands for new police powers to prevent future ones. Blame-assigners immediately pointed to the FBI's investigation of the Orlando shooter, Omar Mateen. "The FBI closed this file because the Obama administration treats radical Islamic threats as common crimes," GOP Sen. Lindsey O. Graham argued on Fox News. "If we kept the file open and we saw what he was up to, I think we could have stopped it." Others cited core fundamental rights, demanding they be eroded. "Due process is what's killing us right now," proclaimed Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin about the FBI's inability to act more aggressively against Mateen.

Ever since the Sept. 11 attack almost 15 years ago, every act of perceived terror, and even thwarted ones, have triggered identical responses.

You’ll never get it. You accept the Left as having moral authority over you, you accept their “anti-racist(anti-white, really)” premises, you accept their egalitarian premises, and you wonder why things ALWAYS slide further and further left, why conservatives are mocked and bullied — it’s because you never go on the offense! You never agressively advocate for what our forefathers actually believed and practiced! You’re ASHAMED of our forefathers, in fact. You defend, defend, defend, and grovel, and desperately hope they don’t have reason to accuse you of deviating from THEIR equal opportunity diversity kill-whitey premises. You just said so yourself, that you’re worried that the Left could have ammo against you. Well, guess what? The best way to deflate them and deny them ammo is to show them you’re not ashamed. It works. All the ammo you need is readily available. Egalitarian b.s. is so easily debunked you can do it in your skeep once you get basic facts and stats and angles of argument down.

I think if you asked the gun shop owner how often he has a nut to visit the shop....he’ll think about that and probably respond that he has three or four per month. The cops won’t respond unless the guy actually commits some crime...because there are so many nuts out there already. We may note the obvious but there’s only so many cops and the legal business requires an actual crime to occur before you arrest a guy.

I disagree as after Pearl Harbor no one had any damn idea whether any Jap here was loyal to their homeland as in spy or even worse. If we had not nuked Japan several times those SOB’s would have fought to the last man. To assault Japan like we did Normandy would have cost more dead Americans then Normandy plus many other assaults to include those in the Pacific. That was the consensus among the top brass. During war you do many things that are not in the constitution. Military commanders and the President do not win wars being nice guys. Your point is BS.

You are totally in left field. No Muslim should be allowed in America period.

You are conflating two distinct issues. I never said anything about dropping nukes. I agree with that decision 100%. My uncle was in the Bataan Death March, so I have little sympathy for the country of Japan. They were vicious war criminals who deserved worse than they got.

That said, American citizens’ rights are not dependent on race. As for the Americans who were interred, there were many more Americans of German descent who were spies, and they were never rounded up en masse.

Japanese Americans were an easy target, but distinguishing between immigrants from the current conflict is worse. To put it in a modern perspective, we would never have allowed immigration from Japan during the war. That is exactly what Obama is doing, and that needs to cease. There is no way to vet anyone and radical Muslims are in charge of the emigration process. It is criminal to continue.

I would have no problem outlawing Islam as a whole. It is not a religion, but a government system in direct opposition to our principals. Good luck with that, though.

Stopping all immigration for a period is possible and the majority of Americans support that policy. Hysterical racist ravings will only ensure the left will continue their destructive path.

Hysterical my ass. I base decisions and facts and reality and no damn Muslim can be loyal to “only” America.

You have an uncle who did this and that. What the hell have you done for this country? This citizen stuff is BS now as you are ignoring the changes that rotten Ted Kennedy made to the Immigration Reform Act. We need to abolish all immigration acts since 65 and get back to what made this nation great. We were mostly of European decent with a number of others. This third world BS is rubbing off on us.

Put it this way: Do you think that for most of our country’s history, the overwhelming majority of white people were wrong and immoral in their beliefs about race?

Calvinists would say not all are predestined....and holy scripture says, “Many will be called but few will be chosen.”

I’m not a huge sanctimonious look-at-how-Christian-I-am type, but just sayin’

Yes from the Barbary Pirates. They were asked “why do you kill or enslave everyone on the ships you capture”, or something similar. They replied “Because it’s our religion”.

Yes, he was ambassador to France from my best memory, that is not always correct. He met on a number of occasions with their Rep and he paid a huge ransom to free a number of our folks. The SOB’s kept on capturing merchant ships and selling our folks into slavery after promising not to do so for the ransom. After that I believe is when the Muslim told him about their lying to infidels. Our marines went to Tripoli not long afterwards. I highly doubt a single founding father of this nation would allow a Muslim.
