Donald Trumps Use of Pocahontas Has Native Americans Worried
Alan Rappeport
Donald J. Trump is heading west this weekend for rallies in Las Vegas and Phoenix and a fund-raiser at Barry M. Goldwaters old estate, known as Be-nun-i-kin, Navajo for house on top of the hill.
But it is the prospect of Mr. Trumps gathering with members of the Navajo Nation that is creating the most intrigue around the trip of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
His repeated use of the name Pocahontas to deride Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, has stirred a debate among Native Americans about how they should deal with Mr. Trump. Some Navajos are questioning whether the meeting, which is still in the works, should even take place.
For many, his mention of the historical figure is offensive and a sign that Mr. Trump, who has been accused of being anti-immigrant, also has problems with the people who first inhabited the country.

I bet if they polled Native Americans, their opinion about this would be about the same as the name “Redskins”....
My cousins in Muskogee OK called themselves “Cherocreeks”. The oldest was a nurse at the Creek Nation Hospital.
Liberals get the vapors over Indian team names. I think it’s because the names evoke warrior qualities, and liberals hate war./s
I too am a native born American and unauthorized use of Pocahontas has me worried. Isn’t that name copyrighted by Disney by now?
Trump didn’t come up with the pocahontas name someone else did. In fact it is rather insulting to the memory of the real Pocahontas who was a great lady.
Oh yes, the “Progressive” Tribe.
One and the same but I understood from the campfire legends that the Fugawi was to soften the original more bold idea.
That was a funny show. Did you know that Wrangler Jane was less than 16 when she started the show? I understand she passed away last year.
Yep. See Post #50 and my post #57.
Trump should capitulate.
Using the following statement:
“From now on I will use the more accurate description and refer to Liz Warren as LIAWATHA....
Being originally from NY and parents from Queens, I’m familiar w/Trump’s vernacular in this regard as simply a sarcastic remark. We’d laughingly refer to such people at such times as a smart-ass.
We moved from NY when I was a kid and all of my relatives (except those younger than me) were originally from there. When I hear Trump say stuff like that, I’m always fondly taken back to my childhood.
I almost fell out of my chair laughing when, in response to Vincente Fox saying they weren’t going to pay for any f’n wall, Trump says “Just for that I’ll make it 10 feet higher!”
I assume people correctly characterize these statements as I do but, being a bit further south now, I notice the people are a bit more, shall we say, sensitive, down here, so many probably do not.
It’s the same type of vernacular you’d find in old comedies (when most actors were from NY) or Mel Brooks movies, and should be understood in the same light. Bugs Bunny comes to mind too.
It didn’t really dawn on me how many folks don’t “get” this until I heard some radio hosts discussing the “10 ft higher” comment (Red Eye Radio). They actually took it seriously and were wondering what the height, technically, really should be to be effective.
Sheesh.
So calling the little commie “Pocahantas” is simply making fun of her claims of indian heritage using a name that you know everyone will recognize - even if only a select few get the humor.
In this case.. "Donald Trumps Use of Pocahontas Has Native Americans Worried" comes from the New York Times.
My point: We should all know by now that it's a waste of time to even read the story because you know it's primarily bull$hit and written only for the purpose of attempting to influence potential voters.
I doubt if today’s Navajo’s even know who Pocahontas was. Or care.
Yes, that is probably true too. Speaking of that, the person they contacted for this article from the NCAI, Jacqueline Pata, has never spoken out against Fauxahontis. However, she has gone to the news to complain about the Redskins team.
She is a Democrat first, Native second, it seems.
The NYT is the paper morons read when they want to appear intelligent.
Pffft!
Spit!!
Rapport is probably a self-loathing Jew, too.
The MSM is continuing the pressing of their narratives. All of this is by design, and standard operating procedure.
Really, we’ve seen this so many times before. It’s not nonsense, it’s their playbook. It’s their primary tool.
Racism.
The Race Card.
Don’t leave home without it.
Do not let Mr. Trump get positive press exposure. Keep the focus on framing him as a racist. Do not relent.
It doesn’t matter who the nominee was. If all else fails, they always fall back to their primary tool. Racism.
The interesting thing is, they have to play this card right out of the gate. This should tell many of the naysayers who claimed the press would dig into his pass and tear him apart with such “discoveries”. Well guess what? Those of us who knew better and stated so were correct that they would find nothing of significant use from his past, and they are already down to their hole card.
I know this is the upside down world of liberal logic, but in the real world shouldn’t the Navajos be made at Warren?
The native-Americans that I’ve met are not the delicate flowers that the NYT suggest in this article.
Seems to me the NYT is suggesting a certain course of action to the democrat-minded in their midst.
Trump should not call United States Senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.”
Instead, he should address her in a more proper manner, as one of the the following:
1) Fauxcahontas; or
2) Lieawatha.
Those two names properly represent what Warren is: a fake Indian.
I’d also like to see him demand that she take a genetic test to PROVE that she has American Indian blood flowing through her veins. The website 23andme https://www.23andme.com/ has a test for $199 that will report on one’s ancestral background (among many other things). I think that Trump could score even more points by offering to pay for it out of his own pocket. Here’s the proposed speech:
“Senator Warren says that she has American Indian heritage. In fact, that’s how she got into several schools and obtained several lucrative jobs, including one as a professor at Harvard University. But her story isn’t credible - that she was part Indian because one of her aunts kept saying that her father must be part Indian because he had high cheekbones. But we live in the modern age, and our technology is marvelous. There’s are companies that will test your DNA, which you give them by just swabbing thing inside of your mouth. So, here’s the thing: I just don’t believe Senator Warren; I think that she is as big of a liar as Hillary. I challenge her to prove me wrong: do the genetic test, and publish the results online. Oh, and just in case Senator Warren, with her net worth of $10 million, is feeling a bit pinched on her small Senatorial salary of “only” $175,000 (about half of what she was getting paid at Harvard), I offer to pay for the whole test out of my own pocket. But I have to be copied on the results, because I really don’t trust her to tell the truth. Frankly, I don’t even think that she’ll take me up on this offer, because she knows the truth and doesn’t want to be revealed as a fraud. So, how about it Senator Warren, are you up for proving me wrong, or are you going to continue to hide the truth - that you lied to get into school and to get jobs? It is up to you.”
To hell with the damn Indians.
I knew this was the Times before I even looked. They are stirring every pot, including the ones that don’t exist.
It is so obvious to everyone that he thought she was trying to look BETTER than she was, not WORSE. Everyone respects the Indians, and they I’m sure are not concerned.
A new low, New York Times. Are you trying to get banned from the Trump rallies too? Jealous of the WaPo?
