Donald Trumps Use of Pocahontas Has Native Americans Worried
Alan Rappeport
Donald J. Trump is heading west this weekend for rallies in Las Vegas and Phoenix and a fund-raiser at Barry M. Goldwaters old estate, known as Be-nun-i-kin, Navajo for house on top of the hill.
But it is the prospect of Mr. Trumps gathering with members of the Navajo Nation that is creating the most intrigue around the trip of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
His repeated use of the name Pocahontas to deride Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, has stirred a debate among Native Americans about how they should deal with Mr. Trump. Some Navajos are questioning whether the meeting, which is still in the works, should even take place.
For many, his mention of the historical figure is offensive and a sign that Mr. Trump, who has been accused of being anti-immigrant, also has problems with the people who first inhabited the country.

Oh, phooey!!! Trump’s problem is with FAKE Indians, not real ones!!!!
Even some Native Americans have problems with Elizabeth Warren’s claiming “Native” ancestry and status. So they should have very little if any problem when Trump calls her “Pocahontas”.
But “Goofy Elizabeth Warren” is better!!!!
Yeah, I’m sure Indians are perfectly cool with one of the whitest women on the planet claiming to be one of them.
I though it was Faux-cahontas.
Oh, horse hockey. Even the Cherokees disavow her.
Well, the molehills arent gonna make mountains out of themselves.
This tells me that Hillary is seriously considering Warren for VP and wants the MSM to do anything it can to shield her from Trump attacks.
That kind of hand wringing will tear flesh from bone.
Exactly. They should be concerned that Harvard had shut down its Indian School, and years later, decided to hire a fake Indian as an act of contrition.
It is the job of the press to inform the public.
If Native Americans are perplexed, the media has failed it’s job.
Warren was exploiting the Native American race by claiming to be something she wasn’t. Native Americans should be offended by her actions. They should not be offended by Trump, who was actually functioning on their behalf.
This topic clearly reveals the failure of the Fourth Estate.
We have open flagrant propagandists controlling the information dissemination in the United States.
That makes for a public that is easily fleeced by it’s leaders.
We’re on the brink in this nation.
Our news providers...
Our universities...
Our K-12th grade schools...
Our entertainment industry...
These need to be fixed.
Open competition between belief systems is required for any of these to be healthy.
Until they are, our nation is teetering.
We are all overly sensitive hothouse flowers in need of safe spaces nowadays.
At least in the sick mind of the New York SLIMES.
Pure BS! Like the Washington Redskins is repulsive to Native Americans. No it isn’t!
But they don’t care about Elizabeth Warren lying she is one of them in order to make a fortune?
Haven’t seen this poll. 49-51? No undecideds?
As a Muskogee (and part Cherokee), I find Elizabeth Warren offensive and Trump calling her ‘Pocahontas’ - well, I am glad someone is speaking out against her.
I find this article offensive because Alan Rappeport makes ASSumptions about what we all think.
It is an insult....................to the real Pocahontas!.............
Considering the multiple times Trump has dealt with scores of tribes over the years, to mutual benefit, the only ones who have their panties in a wad are the safe space wanabe tribal members in liberal circles, the same people who claim to speak for American Indians in the debate over the ‘Redskins’ name, and who are repeatedly denounced, not only for their lack of actual membership in the tribes they claim to speak for, but also for being contrary to the viewpoints of the tribes.
Trump engages in man talk. That is the way it once was in the United States.
I once worked with a Cherokee/Pawnee and I can hear him guffaw at these snowflakes.
More to the point, if they care more about Trump calling a fake indian “Pocahontas” than they do about that fake indian stealing benefits meant for them, then they’re just political partisans.
