Despite an increase in 2.5 million women between the ages of 20 and 39 in the last eight years, fertility rates in 2015 have plummeted to the lowest in recorded history, a new study shows.

Only 3,978,000 births were recorded in 2015, about 600,000 less than if women between the 'childbearing ages of 20 to 39' maintained the same fertility rates recorded in 2007, according to a study conducted by the University of New Hampshire.

To clear it up for everyone, they haven’t got a “pair” among them.

G. K. Chesterton

"Surplus population"

"SCROOGE is not only as modern as Gradgrind but more modern than Gradgrind. He belongs not only to the hard times of the middle of the nineteenth century, but to the harder times of the beginning of the twentieth century; the yet harder times in which we live. Many amiable sociologists will say, as he said, "Let them die and decrease the surplus population." The improved proposal is that they should die before they are born.

"It is notable also that Dickens gives the right reply; and that with a deadly directness worthy of a much older and more subtle controversionalist. The answer to anyone who talks about the surplus population is to ask him whether he is the surplus population; or if he is not, how he knows he is not. That is the answer which the Spirit of Christmas gives to Scrooge."

~G.K. Chesterton: Introduction to A Christmas Carol. (1922)

Japan will survive as a people and culture as long as they dont start importing culturally backwards savages like europe is doing.

Their population my dip down, but it will stabilize.

Europe is commiting cultural suicide for sure.

The central point of Mark Steyn’s America Alone”, 2006

From wiki.....

Steyn attributes the forecast fall of the Western world to three factors:

Demographic decline, based on the observation that European nations have low birth rates while Muslim nations have higher birth rates. Specifically, in recent years the population of the developed world declined from about 30% of world population to around 20%, while the population of Muslim nations increased from about 15% to 20%....

This what happens when you borrow extensively from the future. These taxpayers refuse to be born.

My oldest daughter married in college, it was a disaster. She raised her son alone and just got remarried last year to a wonderful man. My middle daughter did not marry until 30 to a wonderful man and is now expecting a baby, she gave up a pretty decent career to be a stay at home mom. My youngest married in college, another disaster. She is now raising two kids alone.

I married at 23, had my first baby at 24 and wondered at times if I was too young! But have been married to a wonderful man for many years, we raised three wonderful daughters.

I think different things work for different people. I don’t know but young people I know are getting married about 25 and having children so I am not seeing the trend here I guess.

There are some who condemn celibates because they do not obey the first Biblical command of God: to increase and multiply.

I would strongly disagree. Not everybody has a vocation to marriage and family. But those who do marry do not do so honestly, if they are not open (within reason) to having a family. Procreation is a constitutive element of the Sacrament of Matrimony --- and not only sacramental marriage but "natural" marriage as well.

"Constitutive element" means it's part of the very definition.

Of course I am not referring to those who are destitute, diseased or disabled. Although, come to think of it, I do know people who are fairly severely disabled who have successfully had families, including a woman with cerebral palsy whose husband had PTSD, a woman with MS and another with lupus whose husbands were earning below the poverty level, and couples with (shall we say) ordinary disabilities like blind and deaf.

Having a child(or two or three or more) turned out to be what they most treasured in their vision of marriage and family life.

My point is that money by itself is rarely the limiting factor. The decisive favor, is what do people value.

I used to give the millennials a tough time about being soft. But after studying objectively, I can say that if I was a 25-35 year old man there’s no way I am marrying or having kids in this economy.

Barely can support themselves with their salaries. Pay for a child? Forget it.

Do those who are unable to have children have to make a public confession before they are not condemned?

It’s the freakin’ cell phones I tell ya. Men are sterile, their women are distracted, there’s no real sex going on except that which they can log into via Wi-Fi while away from home. Technology is the root of all evil. The Yoders had it right. No curtains, no cars, no debt, no $500 I phones, just a warm bed and a good woman than knows how to bake pies and breads and crank out junior Yoders.

No.

Did you just make that up, trisham, or did somebody actually imply that?

Nobody has the moral authority to demand or prevent childbirths. Nobody can make those decisions except the married couples themselves. And they do not owe an explanation to anybody ---except to God, to Whom we are *all* answerable for *all* our decisions, which pulls me up short sometimes.

I think part of it is there is really no longer any meaningful stigma attached to not wanting children, so now people who don’t actually like kids aren’t having them just because “it’s what you do.”
