Is Free Republic worth Saving? My Opus Part II
Free Republic ^ | August 30, 2013 | The Bat Ladys Husband

My involvement with Free Republic began around 2000 when my wife began her vigil around the Texas governor’s mansion in support of GW against the challenge of Al Gore for the presidency. I generally provided the livelihood for the Bat Lady to be able to protest and surround the mansion against the leftists who were kept at bay across the street. While she was registered in order to post after action reports I was a lurker

Well, you're not banned....

Well, no mail and prior approval of all posts. For example, I have no way of knowing if this will appear or not.

and many times it's the way things are said.

I honestly still don't know what it was, but that's fine. My view of the internet has always been that the people who own/run websites have the right to make their own rules.

I was just pointing out that there is discipline of some kind being handed out, and I'm not sure the lines are clear for those who wish to continue making substantive posts.

I think we need to defeat Hillary at all costs.

If Trump is the nominee, I'll vote for him, even though he was far from my first choice.

If someone else is picked by a contested convention, I'll vote for him (or her), too.

Do you agree??

[[crazy as Alex Jones.]]

Alex Jones no less- my goodness you folks sure are inventively creative in your insults

[[I don’t think Cruz would have been stronger than Trump]]

Well, that’s fine, that’s That’s your opinion- I know Cruz would have never said he was fine with men using women’s bathrooms

[[If Cruz is nominated now Trump voters won’t accept him as a legitimate candidate.]]

I disagree- This happens every election cycle- in hte primaries- and when hte general swings around=- the opposite side swings to the nominee- What few don’t you can’t help anyways- they are lost causes who let emotion rule over reason-

[[Right there he loses 30% or more of Republican primary voters.]]

30% huh? Like i said, emotions always run high pre general election- always- that is a fact-

[[Helping Cruz is therefore helping Hillary.]]

That’s your opinion=- Cruz supporters think just the opposite because they don’t believe Trump will be a strong enough debater against hialrly because he simply doesn’t know political policy like either she or Ted does- and “I have really really smart people- the best- belehive me folks, the best- who know this stuff, and it will be unbelievable’ isn’t really going to cut it, nor are the constant retreats to insulting like He’s done in the debates going to cut it (Look up the Dana Bash moderated debate transcript for a look at how rubio pressed trump on his issues of universal health care for all, and trump repeatedly retreated behind his ‘trademark’ insults against ‘little rubio’ ‘sweaty little rubio’ etc- that won’t fly with liberal mods and their savior hilarly on the podium- it’s goign to be brutal- and he WILL need to have specifics and be very convincing to the independents to get their confidence)— The general election is far more demanding-

Now having said that- perhaps he has been working hard on actual policy specifics, I don’t know- but from what I’ve heard already from him- I honestly think he’s going to have a hard time against her and hte left wing media and the left wing debate moderators who until now have used kid’s gloves against him-

And thank you for a civil response- they are rare these days on FR-

Thanks, some of have been warning about the sad dangers of TDS with members of FR.

TDS or Never Trump has totally taken over any thought processes they might have at this time.

In a normal election cycle the guy with the most votes, states and bound delegates is nominated. Cruz's path to the nomination isn't normal. If distant second place Cruz steals it on the second or later ballot millions of Trump supporters - who are by their nature not party loyalists - will stay home. Therefore he can't win. Therefore he should drop out now and endorse Trump. Or at least stop trashing him.

Apparently there have been 10 contested GOP conventions, 7 of them picked a different candidate than who was the highest vote-getter, and 6 of those 7 won the general election. Dwight Eisenhower is the most recent one of those 7 (he was 8 percentage points down under Taft in the primary vote in 1952).

So these facts should assuage anyone’s fears that a contested convention where the candidate with the highest plurality doesn’t get the nomination automatically results in a GOP loss.

Thank you for posting and backing up what I’ve said about some folks who were not ‘nevertrump, and did not ‘buck up against the owner’ being banned or like you severely restricted- - and like Bat Lady said- others have also met the same fate, and are unsure why- and this was my opinion when reading through the posts and previous posts of some of those who were banned- Those defending all the bans claiming the people were ‘being disruptive, and supportive and wishing to undermine the political GOP party’ either were unaware of folks like you, or those who were banned for seemingly innocuous reasons (as far as I could tell goign back through their posting history- I found no claims of ‘never trump with some of them and no direct challenge to the owner- We’re not talking about people who are here to obviously overtly sabotage the republican party- but rather about folks like you- Again, thanks for posting- not many would have-

Still peddling this wonky line of manure, huh? It isn't 1952. The voters no longer accept the notion that a bunch of corrupt hacks know better than the people. If Cruz steals the nomination he loses. He was always a lousy candidate (comparing him to Ike is ridiculous), and this will only enlarge the already immense constituency of Cruz haters.

By the way, I would vote for him. Anyone but Hillary. But I voted for Romney and that didn't do any good. There's not a single state Romney lost that Cruz can win.

Key is ‘party loyalists’ as mentioned, this happens every election cycle in the primaries- Passions run very high- but cooler heads will prevail during general- it always seems like it won’t pre general election but it does

a mentioned, people always said ‘I’ll never vote for so and so’ but cooler heads prevail when most people come to the realization that they must be ‘never-leftie president’ now instead of ‘never-insert primary gop candidate here’

Thanks for posting- Good info

It is too bad you are having a meltdown. I understand what it is like to watch your candidate go up in flames. It happened to me with Reagan in 1975, Bush in 1992, Dole, McCain & Romney.

I see it as my duty to always vote against the communists.

It is time to get a grip. Trump is our nominee. We must get behind him FOR NO OTHER REASON than to deny the commies another 4 years of crapping on what is left of our country.

No matter who the nominee is I will vote for that person. I cannot aid the communists.

Attacking Jim and Free Republic is a shameful thing. Thanks to 8 years of Obumbler the economy is in shambles. People do not have a lot of disposable income. That is why there are a lot of Freepathons. Also, the cost of hosting has increased due to need for substantial IT upgrades and traffic.

Although I found your screed to be less than convincing, it did push me to finally go monthly on my donations to Free Republic. So, in some small way, you did some good. It is a pity it was not done intentionally.

Why would you expect to be welcome in a community you just called unworthy of existence? You are very foolish.

Sorry, Jane, there were many that I was answering to and you were the 1st. the others were "all" so all this was not necessarily to you There is no need to call Trump supporters stupid (”I’m not stupid! Unlike many of the Trumpsters ...”). No one called you a name, so no reason to go there, with that. Finally....I’m not sure where you picked up the Trump/2nd Amendment/Constitution line, but I did not say that in my post to you. You may have meant that for someone else?

NOT you but a Trumpster I was personally face to face said he would not vote for Cruz if he was the nominee, whereas I will vote for Trump if he is the nominee.

I do not see where a team should quit in the 3rd quarter when behind like the Trumpsters HERE at FR are saying Cruz should quit because he is behind but there are more States to go. Yes, it is the 1st time that all States are in play to the end but I have been in the place where TX didn't matter by the time we got to vote for (McCain or Romney) and I didn't like either of those. BUT I had to hold my nose and vote for them because they were the only against the Dem.

Donald Trump is not the demonic monster that Cruz, the GOPe, the Left, the Media, and their ilk seek to portray him as. If you believe that he is, then you should, at least temporarily, consider going to some other community that is happily cheerleading the attempted destruction of the presumptive nominee. Your preferred candidate has lost the debate in both the nation, and in this community, over who is the better man for the job. I know that stings, but if you can't support Donald Trump, then you should keep that to yourself. For bitter Cruz supporters to continue to viciously attack Donald Trump, and deride his supporters, serves no constructive purpose between now and November. We have Hillary and the GOPe for that. Ted Cruz has lost. Get it through your thick skull and unite behind the real and deserving GOP nominee, Donald Trump.

I have never said bad things about Trump just that he doesn't talk about the Constitution. I only want my republican guy to believe that is the bottom line. I do not deride Trump people, we have our own choices and I get mine, you get yours in the primary and then yes we should get together at the end but why say I have to quit or my guy has to quit before it is over?

If it is over, let's play the whole thing out and then I will agree it is over. But let us play out the whole primary.

as of now Trump doesn't at this time have 1,237 delegates. Until then, the game is afoot.

It gonna take iron willpower to overcome my loathing of Ted Cruz and vote for him. But I will because I care about issues. Most voters go with their gut. Millions of Trump voters are new to the game. Cruz is taking a big crap all over them. They will never support him. Unless Hillary gets indicted right before the election Cruz will lose. President Hillary is all Cruz's scummy sleazy vile legalistic trickery will gain him.

Thanks a lot, Ted.

“Just because you call yourself a Christian, does not mean you own it and can use it to brow-beat other people with it, then act all offended when people have the nerve to actually talk back.”

I’d have to say a big Amen to that! Having faith in God is a wonderful thing. It’s not wonderful to think you have an inside track to HIm that isn’t available to people who don’t think exactly like you do!

Real translation: Then where would you go to find a group of people who slavishly agree with Jim Robinson and tolerate no opposition to his god Donald Trump.

You simply haven't been here long enough. You can express opinions here, but you haven't part of any previous discourse during the election years when we lost. Therefore, even before I read this thread, I'd say you should stay and read more carefully into the threads. We want to WIN this time! Stubbornness will just get you Hilary. Is that what you want? Because that's exactly what you will get. And don't complain to me afterward. Please get over your refusal to compromise, and go with the winning team. Please stay!
