Trump: I would change GOP platform on abortion
CNN ^ | 04/21/16 | David Wright

Donald Trump said Thursday he would change the Republican Party platform's position on abortion to include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Trump made the remarks during a town hall on the "Today" show on NBC on Thursday morning when host Savannah Guthrie asked him about abortion exceptions.

"The Republican platform every four years has a provision that states that the right of the unborn child should not be infringed," Guthrie said. "And it makes no exceptions for rape, for incest, for the life of the mother. Would you want to change the Republican platform to include the (abortion) exceptions that you have?"

"Yes, I would. Yes, I would. Absolutely," Trump said. "For the three exceptions, I would."

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

I liked his original statement of throwing woman in jail who have illegal abortions if illegal. But you guys thought that was to strict. Basically you are never happy just like liberals. Always in perpetual outrage.

No pleasing the Marooons.

Mine too. I’m all in favor of killing innocent pre-born children in these instances.

Reposting:

In the 2005 book “Essential Ronald Reagan,” writer Lee Edwards points out that Reagan felt duped into signing the measure because his legal advisors told him it would leave the vast majority of abortions illegal.

He writes that Reagan came to “deeply” regret signing the bill.

In a period before Roe v. Wade, Reagan didn’t have the advantage of knowing that abortion advocates and courts would misuse the health exception in the bill to allow virtually all abortions to become legal. That wasn’t Reagan’s intent at all, despite Creswell’s presentation of Reagan as an abortion advocate whom pro-life voters would distrust.

Reagan’s most able biographer, Lou Cannon, writes that Reagan have never really grappled with the issue of abortion, but that he experienced regret as soon as 1968 over signing the bill.

Reagan said that “those were awful weeks” when he realized the fallout from the legislation and that he would never have signed the bill if he had “been a more experienced governor.”

So far today this has been Trump on the issues:

1) Pro-dudes in women’s restrooms with your wives, moms, sisters, and daughters.

2) Raise taxes on the “rich.”

3) Amend the GOP platform on abortion to be pro-killing.

Which party is he running for the nomination of again?

It’s harmful to keep that language in the platform, because not only is there zero chance that a democratic process could ever lead to rape/incest abortions being banned, it can be used to attack Republicans EVEN THOUGH THERE’S NO CHANCE SUCH A LAW COULD EVER PASS.

But exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother were never the real issues were they?

Neither were safe or rare. PP fights laws that have been passed to help women who suffer from botched abortions at PP clinics.

She knows a president can’t do a thing about abortion. Only congress can and as usual Cruz has done nothing.

I liked it too and wish he hadn’t walked it back.

Currently, the Republican platform abortion policy reads: "We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed."

That rule presumes, I presume, means regardless of how the woman became pregnant, she must deliver the child......lacking in common sense don't cha'think? I wonder with all the rapes by Muslims in Europe, how they are handling this grey area....terminating a pregnancy by rape in any free society should be (IMNO) between Dr. and patient.

Trump once again speaks honestly about a very grey area.

Didn’t you know? If your mom and dad are cousins, or if your dad is a horribly violent man who forced himself on your mom, then YOU lose your right to live and should be the one punished.

I’m not sure that the GOP platform on abortion serves any actual purpose other than to fool pro life people into voting GOP.

Why? Because Bubonic plague (trump) is better than Ebola (Hillary)? End result is the same. Of course you trumpeters won’t realize it until it’s killed us all.

No thanks

I didn’t get my directives from the site Masters. Cruz destroyed himself over 2 months and I would still rather have donald. for better or worse he speaks what he thinks, while Cruz would say anything for a vote and probably sell his mother.

“No they didn’t, and that was with him supposedly espousing them. How much more should I expect from someone who doesn’t even claim to espouse them?”

Sometimes you get what you want from a surprising source.

The GOP regulars have no intention of solving the problem. It’s too important to them as a tool for rallying votes and raising money. If they solve it that goes away. They don’t pay any attention to the morality of it other than to give it lip service to fool people.

Trump doesn’t owe that crowd anything. He’s far less likely to tow their line.
