And the US Constitution has nothing to do with how a private, voluntary organization chooses its nominees.

Do you have any real news reports of this? I read that a person was denied applying to be a delegate because they did not follow the rules. They had to have shown up at an earlier meeting and they did not.
Trump organization at its best.
The voters could go to convention and vote for delegates.
