Free Republic DNS entry seems to be gone

I was surfing FR this afternoon and suddenly was unable to access any page on FR and the error stated the server could not be found.

I located the IP address, 209.157.64.200, of the server and then added an entry into my PC's host file and I can now see FR again.

I still do not see a DNS entry for FR, and that is interesting.

I can get freerepublic on my laptop at home wifi connection, but not using my ipad (safari) or mobile phone (t-mobile windows phone).

I cleared cookies on my mobile devices and can pull up FR using the 209.157.64.200 IP, but cannot log into my account that way.

WV Nan was having problems, too. Hope it’s fixed soon. Great, though, that there are very few problems here in the past couple of years!

Thanks to you and John for all the work you do to keep us happy, so we can continue our gripe-fests about our respective candidates. LOL!

Am a Verizon-Fontier customer. www.freerepublic.com name stopped resolving, issue on the Frontier DNS name resolver server. Changed my PC DNS entry to point to another DNS as follows and now all works....

Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220

OpenDNS servers.

Thank you. So far, I haven’t had any problems, but these will be handy in case I do. I’m using Firefox, through Grande Communication.

My laptop and tablet cannot connect to FR for the last 4 hours. I get the following message: Sorry, we couldn’t find that page.

My internet is with Charter, and have never had this problem before today. I’ve tried using both Chrome and Opera browsers. Fortunately, my phone can still connect, but what small print...! Hope FR is not under cyber attack.

I can access FR on phone, table and laptop only using Chrome browser. On Firefox for all media i keep getting - ‘Firefox can’t find the server at www.freerepublic.com.’

My Mac's FR just came back with normal usage. It had been out from DNS problems for probably less than an hour. I had been able to access it by replacing < www.freerepublic.com > in the URL with the IP number:
< 209.157.64.200 > The rest of the URL could be left the same. Interestingly clicking links within FR worked, producing IP versions of the linked pages. I've saved a bookmark to the IP version of FR as such problems crop up from time to time and using that is easier, and safer for the less computer literate, than changing the Hosts file. Still, kudos to whomever or whatever restored normal functioning!

I tried using the 209 address and can see FR, but still get message “couldn’t find page” when I try to log in on laptop. I don’t know how to change the DNS. Maybe someone could give directions for dummies.

The status report here looks like what might happen if a few suitcase nukes went off near big population and/or data centers—we’d be back to smoke signals until ‘MacGyver’ John Robinson re-invented Algore’s Internet.

On my mobile devices I use the OpenDNS FamilyShield servers:

208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123.

On the home network I use the standard servers you gave which allow me to customize access based on DNS (filter categories and include/exclude specific websites).
