The remaining Republican presidential candidates come to Detroit to debate Thursday with Donald Trump maintaining a 10-point lead over his closest competitors in Michigan's March 8 primary in a new poll commissioned by the Detroit Free Press and other media outlets.

According to the poll, Trump, who scored key wins in seven of the 11 states making their GOP picks Tuesday and holds a sizable lead in delegates needed to secure the GOP nomination, remains the presumptive favorite. Some 29% of those surveyed were backing him outright or were leaning toward doing so in next Tuesday’s Republican primary in Michigan, compared with 19% for Ted Cruz and 18% for Marco Rubio. The poll, which surveyed 400 likely Republican primary voters Saturday through Monday, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.

I hope it’s a trend.

Interesting the absentee ballots have trump massively ahead. 45% to 14% Rubio.

A lot of snowbirds. VanAndel/Devos are supporting Rubio...or at least were...after Jebbbie dropped out the threw to Rubio so that explains some of his support.

Yes, I know what is on RCP. This poll just came out, and was taken from Friday through Monday. So the last 2 polls out of Michigan have shown a downward trend for Trump. Is it a trend or a coincidence? Too early to tell.

No, I think it definitely portends a Cruz surge through the old midwest rust belt and northeast.

I don't know about a Cruz surge in those areas - but I would be just as happy with a Trump collapse! Let Kasich pick up Michigan and Ohio, let Rubio pick up Florida, and then let them all grind it out for delegates and go to the convention for a floor fight!

I don’t think Kasich is going to beat Trump anyplace outside of Ohio.

They’re won’t be a floor fight. If Trump has the most delegates and doesn’t get the nom he will walk from the GOP. And take half the base with him. RIP GOP.

If Trump doesn't win Ohio or Florida, the chances of a floor fight are very high. Since most of the remaining states are a hybrid rather than true "winner take all" contests, it becomes very difficult for Trump to get to 1237 without Ohio or Florida (and he probably needs both).

Everything I listed is a lie repeated by the two illegal Cubans running for president.

There isn’t going to be a floor fight. Trump & half the base walk out after the “first round” one way or the other. He will have the most delegates and will get the nom. Understand?

Is this an open or closed primary? Is there a threshold for getting delegates?

If Trump doesn't have 1237 when he walks into the convention, I don't see any way for him to get the nomination. But we will have to see...

Over 2/3 of Republican voters don’t want Trump, and almost all of his supporters wuld vote for Cruz in the general election.

One should also be concerned with the millions of evangelicalChristians who would simply not vote if Trump were the nominee.

Trump led by 15% in Va and only won by 3%. Don’t trust these polls.

Or don't trust the voting machines...

But I do not believe that he has stolen from the Girl Scouts. At least not that we are currently aware of.

If he does, I'm done with him...Unless he needs the cookies really bad...

Establishment talking point?

When I have pointed out that Trump is 0-3 in closed primary states... I have also complemented him on running the Jeb! strategy of winning without the base to a tee.

The GOPe strategy was always to make the centrist moderate candidate look unstoppable in March... Too bad they didn’t count on a life long democrat... Who supports the good things that Planned Parenthood does while parroting Code Pink talking points... Running for the GOP nomination.
