There is no other way to describe it: the Obama policy is to let the Russian/Iranian/Hezbollah axis take over Syria. That is what the current battle for Aleppo is all about.
Times columnist Roger Cohen argues that "It is too late, as well as pure illusion, to expect significant change in Obama's Syria policy." But he proposes that Obama should at least increase the number of Syrian refugees taken in this year to 65,000, as opposed to his currently proposed 10,000. But letting in more refugees scares Americans who suspect that there will be terrorists among them.
Such a proposal plays into the hands of Donald Trump, who wants a moratorium on Muslim immigration, while supporting Russian aggression in Syria. "If Putin wants to go and knock the hell out of ISIS, I am all for it, 100 percent, and I can't understand how anybody would be against it," Trump said during the fourth Republican presidential debate.
As those who understood Russian strategy knew from the start, Putin's policy has been to "knock the hell out" of the anti-Assad rebels, not ISIS. No wonder Putin called Trump "bright and talented." The Russian president figures he would be able to manipulate a President Trump just as easily as he can have his way with Obama.
Yet it's Trump who throws around the word "pussy" at Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), one of his opponents in the Republican presidential campaign.
Like Obama, Trump supports Putin's military aggression in Syria. Unlike Obama, Trump wants to stop the additional refugees from coming in. So Trump looks like a tough guy with his anti-Muslim immigration policy, which is a consequence of his pro-Russian policy that generates the refugees in the first place. It is completely nonsensical.
Meanwhile, Senator Bernie Sanders...

Trump doesn’t see the strategic advantage Russia gains by being on Europe’s southern flank. Or if he does, he doesn’t care.
Is this worth going to war over? Just asking?
obummer doesn’t kill fellow mus-scums as can be seem by our rules of engagement.
Trump sees nothing to be gained and has called for a safe area for Syrians.
If the ruskies want to play there so be it.
Not buying it. Obama just missed his opportunity to oust Assad and Putin has filled the vacuum and Assad is probably glad.
Syria is a secular dictatorship. Obama dislikes secular dictatorships in the middle east. He wants the Muslim Patriarchal Oligarchies to take over, that’s what Libya, Egypt and Syria were all about.
Heck, it could have been Bush s idea too when he went after Saddam Hussein.
But Obama used the need to fight ISIS as the excuse to throw in with Putin, Assad, and the Mullahs. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that ISIS was created out of whole cloth for this very purpose. And now they are making incursions into Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, etc...but the blowback is limited to ISIS itself, rather than the people who created them and/or backing them.
Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none. - Thomas Jefferson
The US government is heavily responsible for the current ME situation. By taking down Libya and attempting to overthrow Syria the US has created a vacuum for other powers to fill. The current refugee crisis is the result of US and our ‘allies’ destabilizing the region with NO viable end plan. The growing power of ISIS is one of those powers the vacuum has enabled. To associate a non-politician such as Trump with the events occurring in Syria is laughable....and desperate.
Nope, I have read numerous reports on how we could dry up ISIS lickety split just be cutting off their funding.
Well, Cliff Kincaid can't have that, now, can he, shill that he is.
Syria been a Russian Client state since 1960s. If Team Cruz is this ignorant of basic geo political facts, it suggest their candidate really is not ready for prime time.
Note to Cold War Warriors. The Cold War is over. We won.
Nonsense...
Let’s not forget that this was Obama’s intention all along, destabilize/overthrow our allies, embrace/give aid and comfort to our enemies.

So do I.
No, we did not win. We are losing the cold war (which never ended), and it is playing out right before our very eyes.
Then you are unwittingly helping our mortal enemies strengthen their position in the Middle East, while simultaneously diminishing our standing in a watching world.
Rank silliness. Russia is a supporter of the Baathist regime which, while admittedly pretty ruthless, is nonetheless a firmly secular government that defended the rights of Syria’s minority Christian population. Obama has been working to overthrow that government in favor of one composed of any combination of radical Islamists. These are clearly bent upon the destruction of the Christian minority. Further, most of Syria’s Christians are Orthodox and Russia has historically considered itself the defender of Christianity in the Middle East (in tandem with the French who have abandoned that role). This self understanding dates at least to time of the Empress Catherine II (the Great).
To be certain Putin wants to protect Russian national interests in the region. But he is also the only world leader doing anything in defense of the Christian population now facing genocide at the hands of these Saracen savages. If the West wants to complain then they should be prepared to to step up. Until then, I think the best thing we can do is to shut up and let the Russians handle things since we evidently have neither the desire nor intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done.
