Where was Ted Cruz when the messages started coming out from his camp about Carson dropping out? Standing next to me!

Plausible deniability.

This conversation is getting old. I want a guy who can play a game of chess. Dr. Carson is a wonderful man, he is not President material. Period.
Carrying on with this only makes it become petty. Carson will drop out as he will not ascend in the polls.
Cruz has apologized more than once. He has publicly and privately.
Trump never apologizes, and last he was asked he has never asked God for forgiveness for anything, as he thinks he is perfect. Just saying. And let us not forget that Trump has slammed every candidate including Carson, then runs to Carson’s aid. wHy? Because he wants his supporters when Carson throws in the towel.

Why did Cruz and other campaigns believe that “returning to Florida” might signal he was dropping out? First, because he told the media before the caucuses were even finished of his odd post-caucus plans. Even two of Carson’s former aides have gone on the record stating this was a mistake and all but clearing the Cruz campaign. Add to that the fact that Carson has not, until mid-day Friday, held a single event in New Hampshire and South Carolina during the heat of the campaign. Just this week, he has let go 50 “non-essential” employees (non-essential, just like federal bureaucracies!). He has, by any objective measure, dropped out of the race. Yet, he is only in the race to the extent that he is attacking Cruz on TV - See more at: https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/02/carson-needs-to-look-in-the-mirror#sthash.mmllW7i4.dpuf

“By his body language he did not want me to see.”

Why would you want to? Do you try to look over peoples’ shoulders at the ATM?

Maybe it was something confidential and he did not know if you were with another campaign.

A Carson staffer apparently spoke to CNN's Chris Moody, resulting in Moody's tweet:

Carson won't go to NH/SC, but instead will head home to Florida for some R&R. He'll be in DC Thursday for the National Prayer Breakfast.

It was perfectly understandable that Cruz's staffers and others interpreted that to mean that Carson was dropping out. That's how I would have interpreted it.

If we're assigning blame for this kerfuffle, much of the blame should go to the Carson staffers who gave Moody that information, and/or to Chris Moody for writing an ambiguous tweet that appeared unambiguous.

After the tweet was read by the Cruz staffers, they decided to run with their reasonable but incorrect interpretation rather than verifying that it meant what they thought it meant. In retrospect that was a mistake, but that's all it was. It certainly was not a vile campaign stunt personally orchestrated by Ted Cruz that somehow deprived poor Ben Carson of his chance to be president. Carson's chance was already long gone.

Yes, Moody issued corrections to his tweet not long after he posted it, but that does not mean that Cruz's staffers knew of those corrections, nor does it mean that Cruz personally knew of those corrections, nor does it mean that it the Iowa results would have been significantly affected had the Cruz campaign immediately broadcast those corrections.

Cruz's apology was appropriate, but Carson should have been gracious and dismissed this mess as an understandable mistake.

No it wasn’t reasonable to run with an assumption on a caucus night.

“There’s links there that destroy the idea the lie came from CNN. It was made up by the Cruz campaign”

The CNN announcement is a matter of public record. No guess work needed. What links are there that dispute the record of what CNN said and when they said it?

No it wasn't reasonable to run with an assumption on a caucus night.

Perfect 20-20 hindsight.

Moody's tweet says that Ben Carson will not go to New Hampshire or South Carolina. Those are the locations of the next primaries. If Carson was not going to show up for the next two primaries, what would be the most likely explanation?

The endlessly repeated fact that Moody's tweet does not specifically say that Carson is dropping out of the race is irrelevant. The question is, was that a reasonable interpretation? The answer is obvious.

Why is Ted apologizing?? Because he knows he screwed up.

Carson says an apologetic Cruz asked for a meeting at debate
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/02/07/carson-says-an-apologetic-cruz-asked-for-a-meeting-at-debate/

“The evidence is there,” he said, citing voice-mails that his campaign has released of Cruz allies telling caucus-goers that Carson was likely to suspend his bid. “Tapes, written communications, it’s all out there. People have to decide whether this kind of behavior is acceptable to them.”

“I’ll tell you what it tells me,” Carson added. “It tells me a lot about character.”

You apparently have no response to my main point, that it was perfectly reasonable for Cruz's staff to interpret Chris Moody's tweet to mean that Carson was dropping out of the race. That's exactly the way I would have interpreted the tweet. If Carson did not plan to go to New Hampshire or South Carolina, why should anyone suppose that he planned to attend the other primaries?

It was appropriate for Cruz to apologize for his staff's unintentional mistake, but that's all this was -- not intentional campaign fraud.

I'm tired of reading accounts of this non-event that pretend that unethical Cruz cooked the whole thing up. Even if Cruz was unethical, which I don't believe, while such a stunt might have helped him slightly in Iowa, but it would definitely have hurt him in all subsequent primaries. That's blatantly obvious, and Cruz is not dumb. He would not have done it.

That audio of that voice mail that was suppose to have come from the Ted Cruz campaign ?

Part of Iowa state law on wire tapping and recording phone conversations states * ( Individuals can not legally record phone conversations while NOT physically present ) *

Anyone, that includes Breitbart, anyone posting it on YouTube, the Trump supporters posting a copy of this audio of that phone call or phone conversation may have broken Iowa state law on wire tapping and recording phone conversations.

It doesn’t matter if the person who the Ted Cruz campaign woman made the phone call to handed it over to Breitbart, once they posted it on their website, or made copies of it, they had to be physically present while the phone call was made to legally record it.
