Governor Terry Branstad is crediting Ted Cruz for running an old-fashionedâ, 99-county campaign that yielded victory in Monday nightâs Iowa Caucuses, but Branstad is joining the chorus criticizing Cruz for âquestionableâ campaign tactics.
This thing that they distributed on Caucus night saying that Dr. Carson was likely to drop out and his supporters should support Cruz, that is, I think, unethical and unfair,â Branstad said this morning. âI think thereâll be repercussions to that.
Cruz has apologized to Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who finished fourth in the Caucuses on Monday night. Iowa Congressman Steve King, a Cruz backer, helped spread the drop out rumor and Branstad said King owes Carson an apology.
You know, we have a strong sense of fairness in Iowa, Branstad said during an interview with Radio Iowa. Distributing information that was not true about a candidate right at the time people are voting in the Caucuses is an inappropriate thing.
King tweeted: Carson looks like heâs out on Caucus night. King has told reporters in Washington, D.C. he had an âobligationâ to tell Iowans about a report heâd seen indicating Carson was flying home to Florida Monday night rather than going to New Hampshire. Branstad is not out personally recruiting a Republican to challenge King in a primary this June.
Yet I think there are a number of people in the renewable fuels industry that are not happy with (King), Branstad says. I guess time will tell what happens.
Branstad is a critic of Cruzâs opposition to the federal ethanol production mandate. Two weeks before the Caucuses Branstad said he hoped Cruz would be defeated â a move Congressman King blasted as a âde facto endorsementâ of Donald Trump.

It would seem a Dr. Carson supporter would have the initiative to check out a rumor passed on by an opposing campaign before they jumped ship. After all, this was a caucus, not an election. If he is a serious candidate, Dr. Carson would probably be better served by examining his own organization rather than complaining about being treated unfairly.
Sorry, I am not going to believe everything the mainstream media tells me, like you do. Someone has to stick up for this country.
King Korn is upset. He needs to drink some subsidized ethanol.
get over it and move on!
YUP- Ethanol Ethanol Ethanol!
Sore losers...
OPM addiction is sad.
OPM addiction is a sad thing
“Trumpâs people were not in voting areas suggesting Carson is dropping out and should all vote Trump as Cruz and Rubioâs teams were.”
people were tweeting that they (trump people) were there spreading the information just like Cruz and Rubio..
If I were running I would want my people doing exactly what they were doing. Carson has only himself to blame but playing the victim is easier.
The Butthurt is strong in this one.
I wonder if Cruz could get the electoral votes in the general after his “questionable” caucus behavior. If Cruz gets the nomination, I guess we take Iowa off the win list.

Amen.
Good fishing Ben, though not very honest.
This would be a good opportunity for him to clean up caucus rules and procedures.
Carson was polling at 7.7% before caucus according to the Real Clear Politics average. He finished with 9.3%. You really think a tweet by a campaign surrogate swung that many voters?.... and you would have to assume they all went to Cruz, not Rubio. Cruz beat Trump by 3.3%.
How many Carson supporters are even on Twitter, much less religiously follow the Cruz campaign Twitter accounts to catch a last minute tweet?
That’s the problem with a caucus as opposed to a primary. There are people there who can influence you with wrong information at the last minute.
Umm, Dr. Carson is a heck of a nice guy and would do an awesome job in several cabinet level positions. But there is factually nothing wrong with this statement. The number of staff defections alone clearly support it.
Governor ethanol is more unfair and unethical.
Institute a real Primary system, Gov!
You don’t have going on what you did with Cruz and Rubio though. The screen shots of their antics were all over FR YESTERDAY.
I feel that is to bad, I liked Cruz before. I don’t know I’d it was desperation, but it is not good.
