Does Anyone Believe Trump Seriously Cares about Whether Ted Cruz Is a Natural-Born Citizen?
The National Review ^ | January 16, 2016 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 01/16/2016 8:35:06 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Dear Reader (including those of you born in Canada),

I guess we should start there. I find this birther stuff to be a lot like women's prison movies: compelling, entertaining, and totally ridiculous.

Other than the presidency, there's no place in American life where the distinction between "naturalized" and "natural-born" citizenship matters.

But imagine if it did? Imagine that your American-born mother just happened to give birth to you in Canada or Belize while on vacation. Your American-born mom and dad bring you home days later and raise you exactly as they would have had they been in Cleveland the whole time. Now imagine there are also all sorts of jobs you are barred from having. Not only can you not be president, but you can't be, say, a chiropodist or an embalmer. Pick your restrictions: You can't go to certain colleges or you can't get the best ESPN bundle. Americans born abroad can't buy basset hounds. Unless you were born here, you can't get cheese on your hamburger. Whatever. It really doesn't matter.....

Oh yes. Actually if I were in charge and was a dictator. I would change to law that both parents and grandparents must be born in America and of course the candidates must be as well. I am sorry for those that got screwed and were born on a family vacation in a foreign country, military, etc. We have 320 million people in the United States and we are having to deal with these issues? It doesn’t make sense. Cruz should not be eligible person.......Trump shouldn’t be either quite frankly under my new rules....lol.

“It just sounds stupid.”

That was my thought. Like, really, Jonah? Irrational.

Worse yet, Cruz’s inaction makes it seem like he really isn’t that sure or he would ask for a declarative ruling from the courts.

I am not sure how you would go about getting a federal district court to issue a declarative ruling on a question that has not been argued or briefed and has no possible legal relevance unless and until Senator Cruze secures the nomination. Federal district judges are generally busy and are not likely to look kindly on someone trying to waste their time. While I am sure Mr. Trump understands that his suggestion that Senator Cruz obtain a declarative ruling is ridiculous, he is also enough of a street fighter to understand that a certain percentage of the population will fall for it. While this issue will probably consume a great deal of bandwidth on the internet and will bring out self styled experts on both sides, it is no where near ready for a judge to allow himself to become involved.

“Trump is a post-constitutionalist. He plans to get rid of 0bama’s executive orders, then issue his own “good ones”. IOW, he plans to rule in the same way that Zero does.”

Trump will indeed use executive orders, ... legally, not illegally like Obama does. Therein lies the difference. And indeed we ALL want Trump to get rid of Obama’s illegal executive orders, with lightening speed.

Of course not. He outright admitted during the last debate that the only reason he was flip-flopping and bringing it up now was because Cruz was doing better in the polls.

“Trump spoke at same place later. He started his irrational allegations and was booed.
DT will not take out Ted.”

Trump should do the same thing as other GOP are doing. Stack the audience and have them boo on cue.

“What are those donors who donated 11 million to Cruz want in return?”

A smaller government constitutional Republic.

Next question.

Jonah Goldberg is Jewish via daddy and used to be along with his Episcopalian mother a fixture here

It’s old freeper history or chronicles

Trixie and son

I think Jewornotjew.com would call him chosen since he was born to Jewish dad and raised in the traditions

For observers who live to call me anti Semite here I’m just replying to the original post that brought it up

And the constitution says Natural Born

And the 1790 act is the only place Natural Born is defined

It’s never been tested

Why doesn't Cruz just give the New York money back.

I like that. Trump should call on Cruz to return all the campaign money he got from NY.

I'd like to believe that Trump cares about the Constitution first.

I first believed that this was true of Ted and that our young Mr. Cruz would be the Constitution's champion.

I had believed he, given his rep, would lead the fight to restore what the ineligible obama, and all he brought with him, have done to our Constitution, starting with restoring the strict interpretation of a Natural Born citizen (born in country to citizen parents).

I was naive about Cruz, and perhaps I'm naive about Trump, as well. We'll have to wait and see. But so far, I'm just happy the NBC issue has been brought up and is being talked about.

I personally am tired of having so many of our key, fundamental definitions, including the original, self-evident, fundamental definition of a 100% American citizen at birth, being changed away from that of the Fathers (our Heavenly, our Founding and our family) to those of the world.

I can't vote for a Cruz, Rubio, Jindal nor obama for that reason, since doing so is my vote to rewrite a fundamental core definition away from the strongest, most logical and historical/legal definition possible to the weakest definition possible.

From that point of view, voting for Cruz or the rest, would violate my personal honesty and therefore my integrity, as well as past oaths to uphold our Constitution.

On a more spiritual level, I see all we do in this world as being a test and, given the above perspectives, "Cruz for President" as a test question covers quite a few concepts.

Bottom line, the Constitution our FFs have gifted US with is something unique and amazing.

Let's learn it, live it and love it, before we change it for anyone, even the amazing, young Mr. Cruz and/or whatever _resident obama might be.

Ask yourself, "for the children", for every amazing, young Mr. Cruz that comes along, how many obamas? Or worse?

Let's not find out!

Let's put the original three-key NBC lock back on the eligibility door to the most powerful office in the land again just like our Founding Fathers intended.

I had hope that Cruz would be the "One" to do this, but now it's all on Trump.

No "gravitas" assistance needed with Trump, either.

In fact, he appears to be the only "Father" in our little family drama and I think that's what we hunger for.

Just watch... If Cruz gets the nod, the dems will come out full force to disqualify him on birthplace while ignoring parental citizenship.

It’s ok for Obama, but it will NOT be ok for Cruz.

That was Trump’s point.

I think he was being serious when he said he didn’t care and that he wouldn’t pursue it....

and the dems were already way ahead of Trump’s initial birther tweets.

I’ll repeat:

Has it occurred to you that just maybe those New Yorker’s don’t want their money back and they aren’t all that fond of “New York values”? That maybe they’re sick of Cuomo and de Blasio values. You know those “values” where the donors were told they were unwelcome in their own state.

Guess not...

Trump: “I think pretty strongly that he’ll end up being a good mayor” regarding de Blasio.

Ya, that’s the kind of genius we need to make this country great again... I can just imagine the people he’ll appoint to high places with that great evaluation skill he has.

So if you were a billionaire you wouldn’t donate big bucks to a candidate that you thought would shrink government and restore constitutional limits?

Hmmm...

I would.

I guess that says more about you than anyone else.

Would Mr. Cruz could go public and ask them? After those comments, I'd bet some do.
