Dear Reader (including those of you born in Canada),
I guess we should start there. I find this birther stuff to be a lot like women's prison movies: compelling, entertaining, and totally ridiculous.
Other than the presidency, there's no place in American life where the distinction between "naturalized" and "natural-born" citizenship matters.
But imagine if it did? Imagine that your American-born mother just happened to give birth to you in Canada or Belize while on vacation. Your American-born mom and dad bring you home days later and raise you exactly as they would have had they been in Cleveland the whole time. Now imagine there are also all sorts of jobs you are barred from having. Not only can you not be president, but you can't be, say, a chiropodist or an embalmer. Pick your restrictions: You can't go to certain colleges or you can't get the best ESPN bundle. Americans born abroad can't buy basset hounds. Unless you were born here, you can't get cheese on your hamburger. Whatever. It really doesn't matter.....

-— I can’t believe that this forum which hated McCain and Romney is gung ho for Trump who makes the former appear conservative. -—
It is shocking.
Someone posted an article today about the psychology of Trump supporters. It seemed to account pretty well for the behavior I’ve seen here and elsewhere.
Sure, rule by Executive Order will be legal whenever Donald does it BECAUSE it’s Donald doing it.
Cruz has promised to revoke every 0bama executive order on teh first day (he’s planning a busy first day) and he has not said that he intends to rule by EO. But Donald says he’ll revoke 0bama’s EOs then “issue good ones.” IOW, he intend to rule by executive order too.
This is similar to his immigration policy. When Boosh proposed it and it was called touchback, it was bad. But if Donald says he’ll send them all home and then let them (some, most, who knows?) back in, suddenly it’s good, tough policy that merits our support.
So did Trump, back In September.
I’d love to read it because I don’t get it.
“But Donald says heâll revoke 0bamaâs EOs then âissue good ones.â IOW, he intend to rule by executive order too.”
As long as he issues legal Executive Orders, then all the more power to Trump. We must fight fire with fire. Sounds like you’d prefer us to unilaterally disarm. Constantly fight with one arm tied behind our backs. Sorry, I believe in fighting fire with fire. You go fight by the Rules of Hoyle while your enemy is sticking the stiletto in your back. Not me, thank you. Like Trump, I’m a fighter.
I’d prefer that we do things the constitutionally prescribed way.
For example, Trump promises to impose the death penalty by EO. That’s not in the purview of the Executive Branch, except where the death penalty is already prescribed by law. If you want to change the law, you have to go to Congress. You can’t just issue an executive order.
That’s the kind of thing 0bam is doing.
Obama turned up a phony birth cert showing he was born in the USA. Trump was thinking he was born out of the USA because he did not produce a birth certificate and made claims earlier to be born in Kenya.
Trump thinks any citizen born in the USA is natural born and can run for President. Everyone accepted Obama’s fake birth document so Trump’s question about him being born in Kenya was answered.
I think you need to be born in the USA to two parents who are citizens to be a natural born citizen.
Trump is right that Cruz will be sued. He won’t be protected by shout downs in the press and in the uni-party like Obama was. He’s not a demonrat so the rules apply to him.
Both Nancy Pelosi and McBackstaber have said they are not sure if Cruz is a Natural born citizen. That is two major party leaders who have now opened the door for law suits. The DNC will line up with court accepted candidates and election officials qualified to challenge Cruz in court and the lawyers to do it and the judges in their pockets to take it on, unlike Obama’s case.
To have that going on in courts while he runs for President (if nominated) will be a drag on his election. I wish he would have gotten a court declarative before the campaign began. But I suppose if he had done that successfully, Dems would be lining up for appeal of a lower court’s judgement.
Hope you have been feeling well. I wish we supported the same guy.
