Does Anyone Believe Trump Seriously Cares about Whether Ted Cruz Is a Natural-Born Citizen?
The National Review ^ | January 16, 2016 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 01/16/2016 8:35:06 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Dear Reader (including those of you born in Canada),

I guess we should start there. I find this birther stuff to be a lot like women's prison movies: compelling, entertaining, and totally ridiculous.

Other than the presidency, there's no place in American life where the distinction between "naturalized" and "natural-born" citizenship matters.

But imagine if it did? Imagine that your American-born mother just happened to give birth to you in Canada or Belize while on vacation. Your American-born mom and dad bring you home days later and raise you exactly as they would have had they been in Cleveland the whole time. Now imagine there are also all sorts of jobs you are barred from having. Not only can you not be president, but you can't be, say, a chiropodist or an embalmer. Pick your restrictions: You can't go to certain colleges or you can't get the best ESPN bundle. Americans born abroad can't buy basset hounds. Unless you were born here, you can't get cheese on your hamburger. Whatever. It really doesn't matter.....

So if a company like Goldman Sachs with the morals and ethics of grave robbers, who just got fined BILLIONS for fraud, had set you up and was expecting influence for big dollar loans, would you feel obligated?

So I guess blacks should get 3/5 a vote. Getting back to what the original constitution said and all...

And sheesh, Trump could care a less about the 4th amendment. Spying on Americans is necessary he says. And the 2nd amendment, well that depends on if he’s running for the Reform party or the Republican party.

“It’s often argued that the American murder rate is high because guns are more available here than in other countries. After a tragedy like the massacre at Columbine High School, anyone could feel that it is too easy for Americans to get their hands on weapons. But nobody has a good solution. This is another issue where you see the extremes of the two existing major parties. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only the law-abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s Internet technology we should be able to tell within seventy-two hours if a potential gun owner has a record.”

Care to define what an assault weapon is that he wanted to ban?

But you trust Trump with the constitution but not Cruz. Got it... Trump has changed you say... He had an epiphany a few years ago and all he believed in before has been wiped clean... But Cruz isn’t to be trusted...

And here we are.

Do you think he wouldn’t if they did ask?

You don't answer a question with a question.

Trump: “I think pretty strongly that he’ll end up being a good mayor” regarding de Blasio.

Ya, that’s the kind of genius we need to make this country great again... I can just imagine the people he’ll appoint with that great evaluation skill he has.>>>>\\
and he moved to florida

He could choose to say nothing.

I find it interesting that so many here think personal gain in business is more important than basic ethics - like buying politicians. Some people, believe it or not, have higher standards and don’t do illegal things - trading money for political favors - for more personal wealth.

So in short his ambition exceeds his ethics. But that’s okay. They “all do it” and he’s going to make “America Great Again”...

Just don’t look under the hood...

Jonah Goldberg is a RINO douche I could never stand. Same wit Eric Erickson. That they despise Trump makes me support him more. Of course he doesn’t care about Cruz’ NBC status. He will do anything to win...exactly what McCain and Romney refused to do.

It's not Cruz. I's the guy born in Iran next time who we have to say....well we let Cruz the Canadian in so we have to be fair and allow the Iranian in too.

Trump stated, at the last debate, that Cruz needs to seek a "Declarative Ruling" (it's actually a "Declaratory Ruling") that he is qualified to be President.

Declaratory Rulings apply to a single individual or case and do not set precedent for future incidents.

So, to Trump, it is Cruz (actually, as Trump himself said, he really doesn't care. Cruz is just doing better in the polls so Trump is slinging mud).

Trump's supporters can spend all the energy they want to try and justify it further but in truth it's just an admitted, acknowledged, campaign ploy by Trump.

I won’t answer with a question though I do have a question at the end.

I don’t think much of Goldman Sachs.

But, that loan was secured by his own stock holdings and available to anyone hold similar stocks. No special terms were offered - at least that I know of. And to my knowledge it has been paid off or nearly paid off.

Loans that are not secured by anything and given on mystery “credit” are where the political shenanigans start to roll in. Especially those loans that are never paid off.

There is no indication that any of that happened here. And why shouldn’t he be able to borrow against his stock holdings like any other American can do to try to finance is own campaign? That is pretty honorable in my view.

It matters. It matters a he!! of a lot to me. I want to be able to pull that leaver should he still be standing after all is said and done, but in my heart of hearts it would be pulled with great pain. God would not look upon this country kindly should we forsake what has made US great all these many years. This was hoped to be solved and decided after the last debacle. But par for the course the congress critters wandered in the jungle and failed to stay the course once again. This will take serious thought and many sleepless nights to come to any balanced conclusion. JMHT

Plus Trump’s obviously a YUGE patriot and maybe having people with foreign allegiances in the White House really doesn’t sit well with him.>>>>
what may need to BE resolved here on this site is how did Ben Franklin, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, et al. possibly hated each other for their various positions and places in society made a country in spite of their differences. we here need to do that.

No, but aside from bringing up the issue, Trump did offer some sound advice, which Cruz unfortunately didn’t care to heed. In the long run, I don’t think this will hurt Cruz much, but it does ensure Trump that Cruz remains in second for the early primaries.

Good luck with that.

Trump knows what the new mayor was all about and was just covering all his bases. Having city hall gunning for you is not wise. Running a business is hard enough without that added pain.

Goldberg doing his part to save the GOP-e. And that’s not to say Cruz is part of the Establishment, but Trump is seemingly a greater threat.

So you’re saying that Cruz taking a loan to fund his own campaign using his own stock as collateral is improper?

So I guess in your world only near billionaires are qualified to run for office these days.

Wow.

Right.

So for more personal wealth its necessary to praise communist politicians who destroy everyone else’s lives.

Strange. I’ve been told Trump is so wealthy he doesn’t have to bend to anyone. I guess that isn’t quite true. Because he does a lot of it.
