Why I Will Never Vote for Donald Trump
New York Times ^ | January 14, 2016 | Peter Wehner

Posted on 01/14/2016 5:40:21 AM PST by reaganaut1

...

Mr. Trump has no desire to acquaint himself with most issues, let alone master them. He has admitted that he doesn't prepare for debates or study briefing books; he believes such things get in the way of a good performance. No major presidential candidate has ever been quite as disdainful of knowledge, as indifferent to facts, as untroubled by his benightedness.

It is little surprise, then, that many of Mr. Trump's most celebrated pronouncements and promises - to quickly and "humanely" expel 11 million illegal immigrants, to force Mexico to pay for the wall he will build on our southern border, to defeat the Islamic State "very quickly" while as a bonus taking its oil, to bar Muslims from immigrating to the United States - are nativistic pipe dreams and public relations stunts.

Even more disqualifying is Mr. Trump's temperament. He is erratic, inconsistent and unprincipled. He possesses a streak of crudity and cruelty that manifested itself in how he physically mocked a Times journalist with a disability, ridiculed Senator John McCain for being a P.O.W., made a reference to "blood" intended to degrade a female journalist and compared one of his opponents to a child molester.

Mr. Trump's legendary narcissism would be comical were it not dangerous in someone seeking the nation's highest office - as he demonstrated when he showered praise on the brutal, anti-American president of Russia, Vladimir V. Putin, responding to Mr. Putin’s expression of admiration for Mr. Trump.

...

Mr. Trump's virulent combination of ignorance, emotional instability, demagogy, solipsism and vindictiveness would do more than result in a failed presidency; it could very well lead to national catastrophe. The prospect of Donald Trump as commander in chief should send a chill down the spine of every American.

This is something the GOP/GOPe will certainly need to address if it looks like Trump will get the nomination. He has high negatives, even amongst Republican voters.

A candidate’s job is to win/earn votes. Blaming the voter when a candidate fails to do this is not a winning strategy. Neither is failing to see a hurdle nor planning how to get over it. Insulting those whose votes one want to get for one’s candidate is foolish.

‘I don’t want to make a nasty, arrogant blowhard like Trump the most powerful man in the world.’

I only hope that Cruz is equally agressive and nasty when elected. That’s what we need.

Don’t you get it?

Our leaders have been swapping kisses all over the world, with leftists, and even CAIR-Islamic-Wacko-Muslim Brotherhood types.

Where has that gotten us?

Repeat the same thing the same way again and again and you get today’s ‘G’ OP Congress.

Like the last 3 Republican administrations have given the GOP any popular appeal to the voters

Clinton and obama are the result of the last 3 republican administrations

I don’t overlook amnesty. I am saying that I support Trump or Cruz. IF — and it’s a big IF — IF they fall out for some reason, and Rubio would be the pick, then I just prefer Rubio to Clinton or Sanders or Biden or anyone the democrats throw at us.

Trump will kiss anyone who compliments him, like Putin or Kim Jong Un.

Yes, you are. Even if you aren’t specifically employed in that field, you are an Establishment enabler. A cuckservative, if you will.

Wehner is GOPe. The “issues” are not that difficult to master. In fact people with common sense who follow events already know what is good policy. The difficulty is that Trump doesn’t share Wehner’s policy views. In particular, Wehner hates the idea of really closing the borders and deporting illegals, both of which are the right thing to do on many levels and quite achievable by an administration that wants to do it. Bear in mind that for the left and ther GOPe “understands the issues” = “agrees with us.” Reacting emotionally to a personality isn’t helpful. One could easily have described Patton as an “arrogant, nasty, blowhard”.

Rubio is less conservative then Cruz, but I think he is more electable. Conservatives need to understand that the country overall is not conservative. Otherwise Obama would not have been elected twice.

Your definition of “establishment” is someone who does not support your candidate. Ridiculous.

BINGO. If anyone here at FR would leave a ballot blank in Trump vs Hillary. A) They need to get their head examined and B) Even sooner, cancel your FR account and go away. We have a liberty-loving, pro-American who will champion American jobs and world leadership. Alternatively, we have a dunce who preaches this week about banning guns, white terrorists, islamophobia and dumping millions of foreigners into our country. That ignores the disaster of Hillary replacing a conservative Supreme Court justice and tilting the court fully to the left.

Well, except perhaps every Democrat that has run in the last 40 years.

You ought to read “The Art of the Deal.” Unless you just like making uninformed decisions.

You should really be campaigning to give Milt Romley a second chance. He is too much of a gentlemen to have deeply held convictions and the ability to fight for them and win.

He’s just your kind of guy.
