Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race

WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"

Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.

Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.

The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

This is the best damn election cycle I have ever seen! Trump has made this electrifying. I like both of them, but dang, The Donald has definitely made an impact!
In the past forty years the number of people turning out to vote, or even have a casual interest in elections have been dwindling. With that reduction of participation has come a reduction in our freedom.
The longer Trump stays in this thing the better it will get.
The more participation, the stronger the country. Maybe that’s all it takes to make America Great...again.

Perhaps it's time for Cruz to address this in a formal way.

He has. He's provided his mother's birth certificate. Under the law Cruz is a natural-born citizen.

I agree that Ted surely knew he was a dual citizen, just as Obama knew he
was.

I had a co-worker try to tell me Cruz wasn’t eligible. When I told him Ted was as American as Obama his jaw dropped. Never occurred to the dumbocrat that Obama was born a dual citizen. At least Cruz renounced his AND his father is a naturalized citizen who chose to live in this country. My co-worker didn’t have much to say after that.

The subject will, most likely, come up Thursday & I expect Cruz will cite precedent & law...

How do you know Trump has standing?

How can trump demonstrate that Cruz’s run for the GOP nomination has injured him in such a way that court can remedy?

Furthermore, why would Trump sue? The longer Ted leaves the issue substantially unresolved, the longer it can work against him.

If in fact there is no way for Cruz to have the issue addressed in a court without the aid of someone else first filing a suit, he may well be completely screwed.

As I said, if that is the case, his boat is dead in the water with his flank exposed, and anyone who wants to fire on his flank can, and the only thing he can do in response is witty comebacks.

Now, maybe the people firing on Ted’s flank will anger voters so much that they will all rally around Ted. Or maybe continued fire on the flank will sink Ted’s boat.
The end result is yet unclear.

But I will say this about trump. He finds a person’s greatest weakness, and he latches onto it and bites and tears and rips until that person is done.

Look at Jeb Bush. Look how he shut Hillary up about women and her putrid husband.

That is exactly what Trump is doing here. He is going after ted’s Achille’s Heel.

“Whenever I think my opinion of Trump cannot get any lower, he does something else to lower it.”

Yeah.

These types of questions are only reserved for Obama. When its a person on this side, the rule is to ignore.

"Trump will not win Texas"

While there are no recent polls at RCP, at the end of October Trump was leading in Texas.

And while you contend the deep south is a problem for Trump, the polls don't bear that out.

As for the "SEC Primary" on March 1st, again all of those delegates will be proportionately allocated.

It's March 15th with Florida, NC, Missouri and Ohio then the race will likely be decided. They are all winner take all.

Only if Trump would be running to be the Governor of New York, and then after being a Republican Governor of New York for 8 Years, he started running for President.

Reagan didn’t simply leap from being a Democrat and a couple years later to be a Republican President.

I think trump the fraud should leave the race, unless he’s going to run as his true self - a crony capitalist Mafia entangled, cinton loving liberal dammocrap with s large streak of protectionism.

Liberal lawsuit + liberal judge = trouble for Rafael Cruz

Who thinks they won’t find a compliant judge to hear the suit?

There is valid question as to whether Cruz is eligible and it should go to court now.
*****************************************************************************

Well, then your man Trump should take it to court if he thinks a political opponent is on the ballot illegally. Cruz, of course, can’t take it to court because he has NO STANDING (i.e., he has not been denied placement on any ballot and no court would accept his case unless he has suffered damages). Trump and his lawyers know that but HE will not sue because his lawyers have told him what the answer would be.

Trump is an EMPTY SUIT who lacks substance and can only offer innuendo and bluster.

Surely you know what Grayson is! A loud mouth who keeps popping up, and who if he did go to court would find he has no standing. If he feels that Cruz is unqualified then he can take up the matter if and when the electoral slates get to Congress next December.

1) Donald Trump clearly has the means to pursue a legal challenge to have Ted Cruz removed from the primary ballots in most of the states, based on the question of Cruz’s eligibility.

2) Donald Trump has instead elected to issue tweets, sound bites and play “Born in the USA” at the start of his recent appearances.

= = =

Choose one of the following:

(a) Donald Trump is taking the correct legal and professional steps to keep Ted Cruz from running.

(b) Donald Trump is resorting to smear tactics because he knows a legal challenge would fail.

(c) Ted Cruz is now in second place in the polls and thus Donald Trump needs to focus his usual style of attacks on his opposition. Its just politics.

(d) b and c above

(e) none of the above

Trump is beginning to piss me off with this. Not sure I will support him as the party nominee.

I don’t know why you think I don’t understand the issue of standing.

I most certainly do.

I’ll let you answer it.

How can Trump demonstrate that Cruz’s run for the GOP nomination has injured Trump in such a way that a court can remedy?

Furthermore, even if he could demonstrate that, why would he? He has no reason to help Cruz solve this issue.

If Cruz can’t solve the issue on his own, then the issue can be used to smack him with until it does damage.

Yes, Trump wants the issue to remain. That is obvious. And maybe a judge will rule in Cruz’s favor, and maybe a judge won’t. I really do not know.

I personally think Cruz is eligible. I would vote for him without issue.

I agree.

On the one hand, Trump supporters point to polls showing Trump way ahead ... he cannot be beaten.

But instead of sitting back calmly and smugly enjoying their sure victory, they seem to panic at the very name Ted Cruz.

Personally, I think Trump will win and I will vote for him. I voted for worse people. I voted for McCain and Romney.

I just hope that Trump can win if he gets the nomination. One would not think there would be any question about that with the damaged criminal Hillary and the doddering socialist Bernie.

But some people can’t stand Trump so maybe it’s not a given.

I really liked Trump at one time and I’ll still vote for him but his ugly attacks on Cruz have really turned me off.

The polls had Mitt Romney edging out Obozo before the election.
