Bad bill. If citizens interfere with cops while recording video of their activities, it should surely show up on the recording or on the officers recording as cops should be running a camera while on duty. Prosecution of the ones interfering should be a straight forward affair. Leave it at that.
True.
Then we wouldn't have this awkward situation in South Carolina where the police officer got filmed backshooting the guy who was running away.
The police could have prosecuted the filmer for "harassment". Maybe make it a felony, with the potential to lard on a lot of other charges, to make the mark squirm.
I am all for it as long as it includes any Public Servant that makes a deliberate false statement during the course of their duties to be GUILTY of a FELONY!!
If you have nothing to hide, you should not be afraid of being filmed.
Ain’t this some s***.
I’m about at FU with this police state America.
Yeah, holding cops accountable is AWFUL.
Ok, upon reading this proposal, here's my take: The bolded part is fine. Everything else is suppression of civilian monitoring of police.
And these days, they need some monitoring.
Good. This is a common sense approach. There are good guys and there are bad guys. LEOs are the good guys. Harassing them is counter productive.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So we citizens are the bad guys? Right here, pig, eat the loaf.
Cops need to be reminded that they are the servants and not the masters.
“Yeah, holding cops accountable is AWFUL.”
Earth to you: shoving cameras into cops’ faces is not “holding cops accountable”. It is potential suicide-by-cop. The law clearly says within 20 feet.
Perhaps your ability to read suddenly dissapated. It not only says 20 feet - something I think is reasonable — but then levied a series of additional and unnecessary restrictions, including ones allowing a cop to simply arbitrarily veto the ability to record.
You simply do not want cops held accountable. That’s okay, in any fascist or police-heavy state, there will be cheerleaders.
Period.
Screw him.
“Cops need to be reminded that they are the servants and not the masters.”
Cops are there to protect and serve, neither be “servants” nor “masters”. One of the tools they need to properly protect and serve is the public giving them space to do their work and certainly not an interfer with brandishing cameras and shoving them in their faces. Sure, film them from 20+ feet, but do not interfere within 20 feet. The proposed bill is clear.
Your naivete is astounding.
SCOTUS has already ruled on this. And it wasn’t for the cops.

This is bad juju
Amazing, for such a clear bill, that you cannot digest the entireity of it.
The legislation would require people to be at least 20 feet away while recording law enforcement activity or farther if officers decide that's needed. Recording inside private buildings such as homes would be allowed from an adjacent room or area'ÃÂ unless an officer objects.
“Perhaps your ability to read suddenly dissapated. It not only says 20 feet - something I think is reasonable â but then levied a series of additional and unnecessary restrictions, including ones allowing a cop to simply arbitrarily veto the ability to record.”
I am sure the proposed law also have 50 other things. I was clearly debating the proximity issue, as everyone here. And you seem to agree that 20 feet is reasonable, which is not shared by cop-haters in this thread.
And trying to suppress it indicates a mentality that should be kept away from law-making.
