Look, no matter how bad a government, there will always be some monkeys that screech their approval.
Germany's Holocaust and Russia's Holodomar had its civilian cheerleaders.
I don't think I have ever seen video where the person taking the video was using a camera to get into a LEO's way, or harass them or obstruct officers by taking a video. I have never seen that. In fact someone would not need to be taking a video to do that. But I have seen countless times where LEOs totally over reacted to being recorded when they were not being obstructed.
There are good guys and there are bad guys. LEOs are usually the good guys.
I don’t think the video is the problem it’s the selective editing that sucks.
The legislation would require people to be at least 20 feet away while recording ââ¬Ålaw enforcement activityââ¬Â or farther if officers decide thatââ¬â¢s needed. Recording inside private buildings such as homes would be allowed from ââ¬Åan adjacent room or areaââ¬Â unless an officer objects.
Do you have enough basic comprehension of etymology to see the mockery you just made of yourself?
True...but this guy has been around FR since '05.
I would have thought that he's learned something.
Oh, well...can't reach 'em all.
Police are public servants. As are politicians. Both have somehow gotten the idea that they need to tell people what to do...what kind of light bulbs to use, how much water they can flush, whom they can film. We are one of the least free police states on the planet. This trend needs to be reversed.
If this happens so often and is now some kind of big issue, could you give me a link to a video where the people are "Shoving their cell cameras in their faces"?
Thanks.
Read the part about being private areas/property, etc, and the part about the cop deciding if it's far enough way...on his own.
...looks like a good law to me.
Poorly written, constitutionally vague, leaves too much discretion to a misbehaving cop.
Slippery slope.
Dunno about that.
Too many times I see a cop in uniform that is obviously abusing steroids with the over developed muscles and acne and I really hope he doesn’t roid rage during a traffic stop on some civilian.
Slippery slope?
That’s the perfect term for this. Bad mumbo.
And example would be a “legal” protest with the LEO’s doing their jobs walking or standing the line and telling folks, “no video please”! “Yes it’s OK to yell at me, but no video please”.
lol...
And that would be just fine for the liberals.
Which is better, to "keep the peace" or "enforce the law"?
Now admittedly, there are times when enforcing the law keeps the peace. But, those seem to be fewer and farther between as police forces have become militarized.
I see nothing wrong with filming a public employee, in public, or in your own home. If the employee doesn't want to be filmed I would suspect one of two things. Either they do not know how to do their job or they want to do something they want to hide from the public.
We aren't talking about getting a camera 2 feet from the action. Anyone that does that during a crime is insane anyway and will probably be up for a crack at the Darwin Award.
Nonsense. See Us Supreme Court, Castle Rock v. Gonzales.
Perhaps I was too hard on you.
You and I agree on 20 feet, right?
Do you agree with the other provisions?
I will re-read tomorrow and get back to you.
how would you feel about a law that says no privately held weapons within 20 feet of a cop?
“how would you feel about a law that says no privately held weapons within 20 feet of a cop?”
You are just making it so easy. Try pointing a gun in front of a cop like you would a camera. Even at 200 feet. And let me know if you have not committed suicide-by-cop.
