So what if she was a girl.
I applied early in the shuttle program to be a mission specialist. They asked me how many PHDs I had, how many hours I had been in command of a jet powered aircraft, and the amount of formal medical training I had. Their response letter was big, blue, and it adorned the wall of my garage for many years. Sadly it has disappeared into history. Now, if only Hillary would do the same.
