US soldiers in Syria to back anti-IS Kurds: Kurdish sources

US soldiers are in Kobane, the town in northern Syria nearly destroyed in fierce fighting with the Islamic State group, to train Kurdish forces to battle the jihadists, Kurdish sources said Thursday.

Mustapha Abdi, an activist in the town on the Turkish border, told AFP the American instructors had arrived "in recent hours", in what is the first official deployment of US ground troops in Syria.

A source with the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) said the Americans would help plan offensives against two Syrian cities held by IS -- Jarablus and the jihadists' Syrian "capital", Raqa.

I do not agree with comment that USA is eating Putin’s lunch. Not sure where that came from. But USA aligning with Kurds and NOT the “rebels” going after Assad is the better option. For now Putin is doing our work, so we are in common cause temporarily. This tactic by the way is not Obama’s preferred course. I think he bowed to pressure from Pentagon and world opinion.

More like cannon fodder to start a US Russia war.

What does the Indonesian care if Russians and Americans kill each other?

On the Eastern front we have U.S. veterans volunteering to fight against ISIS.

You both are confusing me. The Kurds are the good guys, you know, YPG/YPJ and Peshmerga?

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday Moscow was helping the fight against Islamist insurgents in Iraq with the consent of the Baghdad government.

“It is necessary to support the cooperation between the Iraqi government and the Iraqi Kurdistan in the fight against terrorism, but we are doing it with the consent of the government,” he said.

More likely the U.S. troops are there to keep the Turks from going after the Kurds for being Kurdish of the Russians from going after the Kurds for being rebels against Assad.

I see what everyone is saying now. I believe we should be supporting the ones in Iraqi Kurdistan, not the variety that’s fighting against the Syrian Army. The Kurds in Syria are the ones more liable to convert to Salafism. Once again, our DoD picking the wrong side.

If Obama has anything to do with the Kurds it will be an operation to ensure they are ineffective against ISIS.

My guess is they will try to ferret out info about Kurdish locations and pass that info to Erdogan for missile strikes.

Kurds shmerdz!

It's their war not ours, or at least it wont be till our troops get wiped and we blame Putin.

Hussein is the one that started allah this. It's just a dodge for his setting up a caliphate.

To reiterate, why should he care if infidels kill each other? It creates a vacuum for the slammies to fill.

As if the Kurds need US training to deal with IS
We sat by for the past 3 years while IS and Turkey both attacked the Kurds
Btw, Raqqa is turning to rubble under heavy Russian air attacks and when the time is right the IRGC and Syrian army will retake whatever is still standing ... Sending 50 advisors makes us look like fools and exposes US servicemen to extreme risks in a war where we have no legal standing and they have no protections of their status

In fact it is possible we are putting US forces in Raqqa to hinder the Russians from destroying it

Not sure where that came from.
It's really very simple. Putin is in Syria bombing ISIS for Assad to regain territory, but instead USA has the Kurds taking those places.

Ergo, USA is eating Putin's lunch because you know Putin (and his sock puppet Assad) is not happy about that. Just like someone eating his lunch.

I seriously hope you are not unwittingly becoming a tool of the anti-American Russians. You are aware that Assad allowed terrorists to freely cross his border into Iraq to kill thousands of our American brothers and sisters - are you not?

USA owes Assad nothing short of a most unpleasant death.

So it’s one side or the other side.

No . I will explain this. Assad bad. Now at least Christians and others still could live there and we could or used to contain them.

On the other side you want . ISIS, a bunch of murdering thugs who have declared war on us, who look to kill Americans and non Christians. A bunch of terrorists.

Let me see who should I choose, mmmmmmmmmm who is the biggest threat right now. mmmmmmmmm

Ah yes the murdering terrorists who look to kill me and mu family, who have declared war on us.

So yes Putin is doing the right thing and killing those who seek to kill me. While Obama is sitting around doing sweet nothing.

We are here in the good ole USA and put up with the fairy in chief every day.
