Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was called out on French television for a tweet he sent about the deadly terrorist attack in Paris on Friday. The former speaker and presidential candidate had speculated in a tweet that citizens with concealed carry permits for guns would have stopped the deadly shooting at a Paris concert hall.
Gingrich's tweet prompted France 24's Mark Owen to say he found capitalizing on crises to advance a political agenda to be shameful. "Newt Gingrich, shame on you," Owen said.
"So he's using this atrocity to make his point that people should be able to carry guns basically," Owen said. "It's funny how people will very distastefully use this kind of situation to express their own particular political [inaudible]. Newt Gingrich, shame on you."
Owen declared another tweet from former New York Times reporter Judith Miller to be a "weird point."
"I don't understand what she's getting at," Owen said of a tweet from Miller. "It seems to be a strange time to make that kind of weird point."
"Now maybe the whining adolescents at our universities can concentrate on something other than their need for 'safe' spaces," Miller had tweeted.
I’ll bet you that the attendees at Geller’s event in the Garland ISD building were banned from carrying.
Never in the history of universal civilization, has a group of leaders been as stupid as progressive leftist. They have allowed thousands of religious radicals into their society, and disarmed their law abiding citizen. Their civilization cannot last for much longer.
Shame on Newt? I think Newt’s comment was right on.
The French are so, so....so French.
There is a reason they’re called ‘cheese-eating surrender monkeys.’
While I am all for concealed carry, does anyone think that allowing anyone to carry guns into theaters is actually a good thing? I do not. I would feel safer in a theater if there were armed vetted guards, yes, but not too safe thinking that the guys in the turbans or the clearly gang bangers are all armed. I’ve been in a move theater when two gang types went at it, but without guns. That was bad enough.
To be fair, France is basically Paris and a few urban areas(liberal), and the rest of it is farmers and “country” people (pretty conservative) - much like ours. Do you think that a fair impression of the US could be made from a small, loud sampling of people from NYC or LA?
I was in the countryside of France and my impression there was that those people like America, and really, seriously HATE Parisians.
I’m in favor of it but not without passing some SERIOUS training first. Look at how much training police get (possibly thousands of dollars worth) and they still make mistakes.
What’s the problem?
The Left:
How dare you expose the dangerous, irresponsible policies of the Left, Newt. Move along folks. Nothing to see here.
Go to Normandy, and you see American flags all over the place.
Well I was born in NYC and I seriously hate New Yorkers for their smug elitism. I guess it was the French countryside that finally took matters into their own hands and torched the refugee camps in Calais. Good for them. It is time to fight back.
great commercial. I am confused though. She doesn’t shoot him yet he falls down unconscious. maybe he passes out due to fright? :-)
It's common practice to ping the poster to the thread when you are talking about them. :)
It’s shocking that it came from the NYT. She may be called to someone’s office to explain herself.
