GOP frontrunner Ben Carson, in a 1998 commencement address, floated his own personal theory that the pyramids in Egypt were built by Joseph -- the biblical patriarch known for his coat of many colors -- to store grain, Buzzfeed reported.
In the speech -- given at Andrews University, a school with ties to Carson's Seventh-day Adventist faith -- the neurosurgeon shot down claim that aliens had built the pyramids. But he also disagreed with the archaeological consensus that the pyramids were constructed as tombs for the pharaohs.
âMy own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain,â Carson said. âNow all the archeologists think that they were made for the pharaohsâ graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big if you stop and think about it. And I donât think itâd just disappear over the course of time to store that much grain.â ADVERTISING

The issue is irrelevant.
An old statement on an irrelevant issue.
This speech was made at least 25 year ago, judging from his appearance.
It was 1998 and irrelevant
You are right. It doesn’t change the high regards many have for Dr. Carson.
Wow, this is SO relevant to the Presidential race. Dude voiced a historical theory in 1998, WOW!!!!! Tell me, what did he have for lunch 3 weeks ago Tuesday?
1998 is irrelevant? The Clintons will be happy to hear the 1990s are off limits.
That’s a totally separate issue.
ALERT! ALERT!
Really? They bring up a speech from 17 years ago to paint him?
He wasn’t speaking as an authority on Egyptology. He was just making an uninformed comment at a low key graduation speech.
This is nothing.
I hope he doesn’t think islands are floating and that the U.S. landed a man on Mars in the ‘60’s too.
I wasn’t ready for a Commie half-black president, and I sure ain’t ready for a black UFO one. Can we just go back to boring conservative white guys for a while?
Since the pyramids were once covered with slabs of limestone (glowed all the way to Israel), how did they get the grain inside? The only openings to the outside are very small.
Assuming, then, that they did use it store grain, how did they get the grain out?
Neither the external nor internal structures give credence to the idea that they were grain storage bins.
The pyramids were built to store rocks.
I don't think he was considering running for president 17 years ago.......LOL!
I don’t regard him highly as a candidate but this posted issue is a non-issue.
Ben Carson’s finished .... he clearly has bought into some kinda cult-rumor tin foil hat idea ...
1998 would make him 47. Way too old to have such ignorance of basics.
lol!
I have high regards as a good and decent man. You are right, this is a stupid issue to bring up.
About as much as archaeologists think they know about anything..........LOL!
Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me Israelite, sir

If they catch me in the farm, you sound your alarm

Other songs the Israelites liked to sing as they horsed the huge limestone blocks on rollers up the inclined planes: `Louie, Louie’ `The Wanderer’ and `Georgie Girl’.
Forget about Joseph building pyramids. Does ancient Egypt even record ANY Biblical/Israelite character?
