During his “60 Minutes” interview Sunday, Republican presidential front-runner appeared to come out in favor of a form of single payer health insurance for the uninsured ... and openly called for raising taxes on the wealthy.

I don’t know about the direct connect, but there’s no denying the disconnect.

I’m not one of those upper income individuals...unfortunately...but if I were, I would gladly give up deductions for a much lower tax rate, lower capital gains, and no estate tax. Trump’s plan keeps the mortgage interest deduction.

Many of the working wealthy own businesses, and if they are incorporated, the top corporate rate would be 15% under Trump’s plan, down from 35%.

I agree, though, that everyone should have some skin in the game. Married couples making less than $50,000 a year should pay something, and single people earning $25,000 or less should pay something as well in income taxes.

Trump’s plan would bring in additional revenue to the government because the economy would expand.....I think this is how he would make up the difference. When Reagan took office in January 1981, the IRS took in $500 billion a year. When he left office eight years later, the IRS was taking in $950 billion per year, because of a growing and expanding economy.

Yes, the deficits grew, largely due to a House of Representatives that was controlled by democrats for all of Reagan’s eight years in office.

Which is how we used to handle healthcare for the poor (public hospitals supported by the taxpayer).

No... By and large, hospitals were owned by religious institutions, which have an inbuilt prerequisite for charity. When the gov decided to split off profit making hospitals, making them distinct from the overall non-profit status of a religious institution, and thereby susceptible to taxation, That is when religious organizations began divesting themselves of their healthcare properties (late 80's IIRC).

Business bought them up, and lessened charity to conform with a business model, which increased the necessity for government welfare. Hence the mess we are in today.

County-run facilities were always there to pick up the slack, as well as state run or college run facilities, but the burden was mainly carried by churches.

The same with colleges (actually, schools generally).

The same with child care.

Return these things back under the dominion of churches, allowing them to 'profit' in their non-profit, only encourages more of the same... More facilities, more charity, more organized help for the downtrodden... In real effect, taking the burden off the taxpayer.

I live in Maine, and there is basically one choice for medical insurance....in other words, no choice at all.

Trump wants to give people the opportunity to purchase insurance from other states. I would like to be able to do that.

The first and most important job of a speaker is to know his/her audience. Who predominantly watches 60 minutes?

Trump was speaking to his audience.

We already have that. It’s called Medicaid.

There is nothing *new* about this.

“another thread in which the specific details of Trump’s tax plan were given”
Please, where is it? I’ve found only editorializing on, and ‘summaries’ of, it.

Great immigration deportation policy?

Since Trump hasn’t explained any of this, please tell us how he plans to identify, locate, detain, house and feed, and then deport 11-20 million illegals many with minor children, using ships, trains, buses, and plans to over some 20 different nations (when it took 60 years to process just 11 million in Ellis Island) and of course against a certain tsunami of federal injunctions?

Isn’t this like saying that anyone who proposes a great policy to colonize Mars is engaging in buffoonery?

history tells us what the definition is.....what can “we” possibly mean here except government care. I mean, he said just a few weeks ago that it works great in Scotland and Canada - and that total single payer would have worked here just a few years ago.

You are the one reading whatever you fantasize about into it and projecting, I’m using the man’s own words.

Wow....so, now you’re equating the illegals here with LEGAL immigrants processed through Ellis Island??

Trump has said he’ll do this (deport those here ILLEGALLY). Which other candidate has said as much?

The simplest way is to immediately cut off ALL welfare benefits....ebt, housing, education, healthcare, etc. You and I know that, Trump knows that.

The RINO’s/Dems (and, sadly, many here) are crying loudly about his statement/confirmation that ALL ILLEGALS will be asked to leave. That alone speaks volumes.

You could take out several million right off who currently go back and forth to Mexico as a matter of routine multiple times per year. Every time one attempts to reenter, entry is declined.☺

There are so many ways to do this. Yes it would be incremental but it's not complex no difficult.

You don’t agree with sending folks back to the nation of their origin?

You don’t agree with them being vetted to make sure they aren’t criminals?

You don’t agree with a 60’ high wall along our border?

You can find nothing you like in there right?

Instead you do an end run to pick on something that wasn’t addressed.

Please name the candidate that has drawn up a better plan. Until then I’ll expect you to trash everyone that hasn’t drawn up a plan at all.

And start going after tens of thousands of unscrupulous U.S. employers who continue to hire their low wage labor. That’s all been a sham as they count their profits on the backs of tax payers.

Nope. Thats wrong. Trump doesn’t support Single Payer Healthcare.

Single Payer is the GOP Establishment’s plan. The Washington Republican Establishment has supported and funded for Obamacare at every turn.

Trump is 180 degrees opposite of the GOP Establishment. Trump wants to introduce competition to health care, by letting insurance companies compete across state lines.
