Will Pope Francis' rhetoric slow conservatives' conversion to Catholicism?
WilliamIII | Sept 27 2015 | WilliamIII

Since the heydey of Pope John Paul II's pontificate, there has been a significant phenomenon in the US of politically and/or culturally conservative people converting to Catholicism.

With the current pope's politically liberal rhetoric, will we see fewer of these conversions?

Also, it's interesting that talking about global warming has proved to be a pretty effective way to get the media to stop focusing on pedophile-coverup scandals. You don't suppose that's part of the strategy, do you?

If these people had any sense, then they wont be at Mass tomorrow, and wont come back.

Lots of people centuries ago did just that.

I never liked Catholicism because of the centralization of power with one supreme leader

I don’t think that GW is a strategy. I think the leftwing fool actually believes it.

I left the Catholic Church some years ago, but when I was sick, I thought about going back. Glad I didn’t.

If I wasn’t already a Catholic, I would not become one while this Pope is still around.

More important question. Will Catholics ever embrace conservatism?

Conservatives will flee marxism and I don’t know what gender identity to call “Francis”.

All of this nonsense makes me wonder not why I’m a Catholic but why I’m a member of Free Republic? What is the point? It is only for born-agains. I’m tired of the hate. And, yes, I know: I won’t let the door hit me.

Well, let me think about this. Some of the hardest working Catholic FReepers donate to this site and work 8 months of the year to earn donations for the FReepathon. What do you think?

I plan to go to mass tomorrow, just as I do every Sunday. I love my faith in the Lord Jesus.

Thanks. I seriously have to rethink my participation here.

And, yes, folks, I’m not letting the door hit me!

Yes and a lot of defections.

Good riddance. Faith must go deeper than the people who are currently in charge. The Catholic faith is more than 2000 years old and will survive this Pope as it survived much worse in the past. The gates of hell shall not prevail against her said the Lord.
