The US has political hacks up the wazoo... all with short term dramas. That’s not what citizens need.

When the Pope dropped the ‘poor people need more stuff’ bit and moved into the spiritual realm he was amazing.

There is no other nation on earth which has done more to open their doors to immigrants - a nation founded by immigrants. There is not a region on the planet where Americans have not shed their blood helping others, rescuing those in danger, and defending the weak.

What an opportunity wasted. Rather than simply thank us for everything we've done to help others, we're told instead that we need to push aside those who would come here because they want to become citizens and instead told to favor the hordes who view us as an ATM and a flop house.

Rather than simply thank us for our hard work, the pontiff lauds and encourages government enforcement of global warming dogma. No sane religious leader would ever tread down that path, as it almost always leads to the same place: government enforcement of all dogma such as homosexuals requiring others to call them married.

I applaud the Pope's minimal gestures towards humility, but riding in a little Fiat while a thousand other vehicles either drive before and after, or are closing intersections or directing traffic is, honestly, nothing more than an empty gesture.

But it is also a symbol of his reign as leader of the church - minimal and empty gestures, while advocating for governments to force people to live in squallier, to take more of their daily bread to hand to others, and to characterize this thievery as charity.

I yearn for a time where we once again have a religious leader for the church, who encourages and enables personal responsibility, who advocates looking to God for the answers rather than government dictate. One who can look at the faithful with love rather than yet another person to control and subjugate to the latest fad.

The pope should still say those things are sin, since the Vatican pointed out that the conservative wing of the Catholic Church disagrees with the Obama evil agenda. That’s my opinion.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think Pope Francis struck the right tone, and while I don't agree with everything he says I thought that his address was very good.

Finally, I don’t praise and worship man, that belongs ONLY to JESUS CHRIST...not the pope, president, prime minister, ect.

We Catholics do not praise and worship the Pope, any more than you praise and worship your own minister.

“Finally, I don’t praise and worship man, that belongs ONLY to JESUS CHRIST...not the pope, president, prime minister, ect.”

Why I belong to a nondenominational Christian church.

No politics

No bureaucracy

Just the word of God.

In just a few words, you closed the argument, at least from a rational Christian perspective.

I know many Catholics who do praise and worship the pope and mary. Protestants praise and worship - God - Jesus Christ Himself! We don’t need to go through a woman, ministers, priests, bishops, ect as mediators to commune with God. We go straight to Christ for ANY AND EVERYTHING, particularly, the forgiveness of our sins! Hallelujah!

“For there is ONE GOD, and ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, the man CHRIST JESUS!” (1 Timothy 2:5)

Thank You, Jesus!

It is evil to let feral, evil, sexist, sodomite males invade a civilized (Christian) nation. Their worldview is incompatible with Freedom/Virtue and Christian Virtue (basis of US Constitution) and will only promote chaos and evil.

Rule of Law is MORAL LAW-—and God’s Law—for civilizations....which collapse and are destroyed, if Rule of Law is non-existent-—which is what this pope is advocating. This pope is advocating the destruction of Western Civilization.

Cicero stated that lack of Rule of Law will destroy culture...and he was WAY more brilliant than this so-called pope....who is illegitimate in my estimation.

We have a true Pope—who understood the dehumanization of no laws and Marxism and islam and socialism and the destruction of the Natural Family and individualism in such collective, evil, sexist ideologies. Look at all the males who are so immoral, they left their mothers and sisters to rot in hell-holes that they created. The pope wants the West to become a cesspool so that all the little children will be like the little Inca Minds the Jesuits kept on communes. No ability to be the masters-—just interchangeable drones to work for the few elite masters.

Americans do not “answer” to any man, especially this Pope.

>> He wants money from the leftists too. His new mansion requires expensive upkeep. <<

Well, at least we know he's not a "marxist" like the Pope (At the start of his papacy, Francis decided the papal apartments in use since 1910 were too luxurious for a faith leader, and opted to give them up and live in much simpler, humble accommodations. Quite a contrast to Olseen's mansion).

But hey, protestant freepers are upset that there's no prominent protestant minister being invited that would "tie up traffic for 4 days". Well, Osteen would get that kind of crowd if he addressed Congress, and he'll happily take the call.

But thankfully all 318 million Americans have informed you who they answer to, so you can inform the rest of us about how they feel.

Carrie Underwood belongs to a "non-denominational" church for similar reasons. She can believe as she wishes and there's no rules or hierarchy to tell her otherwise. So its perfectly acceptable for her to loudly promote gay marriage and claim to be a faithful "Christian" in her church. In the Catholic Church, she could be told she's in violation of her faith and even denied communion if her bishop gave the order, but in her "non-denominational" church, anything goes as long as you claim to "follow Jesus".

To each his own, but I'd never join a "church" like that.

If the pope was really compassionate, and truly concerned about poverty in the third world, why is he not going after and condemning all the failed shithole governments that are so incompetent their own citizens have to flee?

There's been 265 Popes over the last 2000 years, all of them are not going to be perfect, sorry. The vast majority of them have not been "blithering idiots". The previous two were quite articulate, actually. If it upsets you so much, you can become Catholic, get promoted to Cardinal, and vote in the next conclave for a Pope more to your liking.

For people who claim to not care what the Pope's opinion is, you guys sure spend a ton of energy talking about him. I don't give a crap about the head of Southern Baptist Convention says, which is why you DON'T see me on threads arguing with his comments.

It has nothing to do with feelings or numbers.....in America we answer to the Constitution of the US...not the Pope, or the President, or a King.

Needless to say you can answer to whomever you want in your private life.

Agree.

That being said, did you protest when Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint session of Congress, since he's not an American politician? Did you lecture everyone about how he ONLY speaks for the Israeli government, and not Americans? And that most Americans are not Jewish and don't share his theological views? Were you upset that his comments to Congress addressed only foreign policy and said nothing about abortion and gay marriage, which is rampant in his country?

Not sure if you mean me in particular....if so, I have no idea what you are talking about.

I don't recall anyone here saying that we must answer to Netanyahu? So there would be no need to correct them.

He was here to ask the Congress for help in protecting Israel from Iran, who is threatening them with nuclear annihilation.

Numerous people here argued that "Netanyahu is now leader of the free world" and his beliefs are above our government's. They repeated argued we should do what HE wants and NOT what our Congress wants. Sorry you missed it. I will be happy to provide you with freeper's comments about how we must must answer to Netanyahu.

>> He was here to ask the Congress for help in protecting Israel from Iran, who is threatening them with nuclear annihilation. <<

Yep, he focused exclusively on foreign policy on Iran, and did not mention that rampant taxpayer funded abortion on demand and Arab immigration will turn his country into a majority Arab state by 2050. I agree wholehearted with Netanayu's views about Iran. And while I vehemently, 100% disagree with his government's domestic policies and far-left social liberalism, I didn't protest his speech because of that and attack the Isreali government and Jewish people for following him.

Likewise, the Pope focused on respect for the dignity and sacredness of human life, which is under grave threat from our government, and he focused on stewardship and goodwill of our planet, which is certainly under threat and which all people agree with (although many of us disagree that government "green" initiatives will solve that problem). I agree wholeheartedly with the Pope's views about the sanctity of human life. I vehemently disagree with the Pope's immigration and economic views, but I don't protest his speech because of that and attack the Catholic Church's government, or Catholics for caring about his speech.

Sadly, the same can't be said of other freepers.
