The pope addressed those issues, although maybe not as strongly as most of us would've liked:

The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development. . . .

. . . . I will end my visit to your country in Philadelphia, where I will take part in the World Meeting of Families. It is my wish that throughout my visit the family should be a recurrent theme. How essential the family has been to the building of this country! And how worthy it remains of our support and encouragement! Yet I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life.

In particular, I would like to call attention to those family members who are the most vulnerable, the young. For many of them, a future filled with countless possibilities beckons, yet so many others seem disoriented and aimless, trapped in a hopeless maze of violence, abuse and despair. Their problems are our problems. We cannot avoid them. We need to face them together, to talk about them and to seek effective solutions rather than getting bogged down in discussions. At the risk of oversimplifying, we might say that we live in a culture which pressures young people not to start a family, because they lack possibilities for the future. Yet this same culture presents others with so many options that they too are dissuaded from starting a family.

I think we all would've liked to have heard the pope tell Congress outright that PP is the work of Satan and that marriage is between one man and one woman. Maybe he doesn't think he needs to say it outright because there's no question where the Church stands on these issues.

I think we can find 4 protestant faith leaders to go tie up traffic. I want equal time for the largest group on Christians in America— The evangelical Protestants!! It is only fair. I'm sure such an event would be attacked by the LEFTISTS as a violation on “Church and State” but where is the hue and cry over this LEFTIST head guy at his church?

> “There are 1.1 billion Catholics in the world. There are about 500-600 million protestants. That means MOST of us Christians in the world DO answer to Catholic Popes.”

Most Catholics are Third-World and as a result are ignorant. That said, the Catholic Church does the Lord’s work with the poor and deserves respect for this. But numbers do not tell the story and acts performed by some priests on the ignorant do not always follow Catholic teaching.

Over time, the criminal and deceitful acts of some church leaders foster an anti-Christian reaction. Look at the pedophilia that went on for decades and decades without response from the Church. People are very confused because the Church does not police its own. The only way to counter this is education and awareness that demons and evil are everywhere including infiltrating the ranks of Churches. But education and awareness are lacking in the Third World, hence confusion persists.

The phrase “protecting life from conception until natural death”, is a pro-life euphemistic argument against abortion and euthanasia.

Yet he shills for Islam and its cult of death, and homosexuality, with its unending support for abortion. He's one confused individual.

I just wish someone would come right out and say those things are sin.

A lot of things are sinful. If he mentioned only abortion and homosexuality by name then does that imply that murder and adultery are not as bad? It's a speech meant to deal in broad strokes, and reaffirming the Church's belief in the sanctity of life and of marriage was in there. Of course the sanctity of life extends to opposition to capitol punishment, and belief in marriage also extends to opposition for divorce and remarriage. If he'd mentioned the later then he'd really have pissed of a lot of people there.

As a Catholic, I don't give a whit about what the Pope says outside of his pronouncements on faith. That is the sole area he is considered infallible.

He knows no more about climate change and our immigration policies, or lack of them, than does a penguin.

Jimmy Carter has always self-identified as an "evangelical protestant" and I would argue he's well to the left of the "marxist" Pope. (I've never seen Jimmy denounce abortion or gay marriage). I'm pretty sure leftists would be delighted if ex-President Jimmy addressed Congress.

Of course, Jimmy's not a minister. But leftists would also be pleased if Jim Wallis, Michael Dowd, or Rob Bell (all of whom identify as "Evangelical protestants") addressed Congress.

On the other hand, if a CONSERVATIVE "evangelical protestant" were to address Congress, I agree that leftists would rant and rave about it, and scream about separation of church.

If you convince your Congressmen to get such a figure to address Congress, more the power to you. As you noted, you can probably find at least 3 or 4 protestant faith leaders with enough prominence to tie up traffic. As a Catholic I'd be fine with it.

Of course, given the historic ratio of dozens of protestant congressional chaplains compared to only 1 or 2 Catholic chaplins, and dozens of protestants presidents but only 1 Catholic president (JFK, who wasn't the heroic conservative figure a bunch of freepers like to pretend he was) I can't really feel bad that there's been more prominent Catholic clergy than protestant clergy addressing a joint session of congress.

I don’t give a damn what this Marxist Pope says. I don’t give a damn how many Catholics there are in the world, or Islamics, or whatever. I don’t listen to Imams either.

I’m a Bible-believing Protestant who puts the US Declaration and Constitution ahead of Papal, Islamic, Marxist, Liberal-Leftist, you-name-it dogma. I answer to none of them.

Because he is speaking as a head-of-state. Vatican City is a nation and he is the head of that nation.

Fine with me. YOU may believe as you wish. However, YOU cannot claim to speak for "most of us". Insisting that YOUR viewpoint represents "most" Christians won't make it so.

The pope should still say those things are sin, since the Vatican pointed out that the conservative wing of the Catholic Church disagrees with the Obama evil agenda. That’s my opinion.

Many world leaders are wicked and they want admiration from people. They are trying to play God for a foll and/or from the middle of the road. Won’t work. Christ says He spews lukewarm believers out of His mouth. Christ also says we can’t serve Him and mammon. We either contend for the faith or we don’t.

But rest assured, when we ALL have to give an account before God one day, we will see exactly who are God’s TRUE servants and who are the wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Finally, I don’t praise and worship man, that belongs ONLY to JESUS CHRIST...not the pope, president, prime minister, ect.
