Once again Russia comes in to do what Obama failed to do from the get go.....looks like a possible deal made...Assad will go but a new ruler from the Allawite clan (same as Assad's) will assume power so there will be no void ISIS or any terrorist group can fill............It would mean a win win for Russia......Sauds won't be happy though.

Might be Obama wants to go out falsely tooting his horn regarding Syria....he will surely lay claim to bringing this about.

I’m always skeptical about coincidence. Hundreds of thousands of “migrants”, mostly fighting age men, walk to Europe at the same time Russia shows up in Syria? Hmmm..... One can’t help but wonder how many ISIS types are staying around for Russia’s solution to the problem.

I’d posit that Syria does not have many tank drivers left.

Maybe not, but Russia does.

Syria is not Afghanistan. Russia has a long and very cozy relationship with Assad and his father. They’re not going anywhere.

Don’t be surprised if that happens.

I won't be surprised at all, I'm thinking along the same lines.

Interesting is Putin and BiBi just met in Moscow regarding these changes.....so as not to get in each others way regarding air attacks and surely other significant points.

Right... This seems a bit overkill.

The proper way to enter a war theater is to go in overkilling.

Underkilling just won't win.

I hate to see the Russians gain such a sure foothold in the ME

Because the U.S. is too preoccupied with "gay rights," "global warming," and other measures of "transforming" itself, it's simply is too weak to lead the way; thus, others are filling the vacuum. As a result, we're left with: which will it be - the Russians or ISIS in the ME? Like it or not, it's going to be one or the other.

This makes me smile. I remember Russia’s last forey into Afganistan. Didn’t do much better than we did. Instead of Charley Wilson’s war wonder who will own it this time....

This was exactly what BushI and BushII tried to avoid when they scaled back their plans in the Middle East.
They were worried Russia was going to pull troops into Syria.

Russia has been backing Syria since the 60’s

If Russia has this force, then they are planning on going into Iraq.

Good for them. America had the opportunity to destroy ISIS but chose not to. Now someone else will do it.

So the place is already crawling with Russians.

I did hear the Russian Marines got into their first battle with ISIS the other day and won.

Disagree. My point is if Russia is going to try to make a foothold in the Middle East, not just Syria, with only 95,000 troops, they’re in for a long slog just like it was for them in Afghanistan.

Yep. Russia has an economy the size of Italy. An economy in recession from sanctions & low oil prices. No chance they can send 100,000 troops to the ME. That’s a day dream that won’t be happening

How big was their economy when they raised millions and millions of troops to conquer Eastern Europe from the Nazis?

When Russia sends troops into other countries they don't contract with Halliburton to provide the chow.

We spend an extraordinary amount per soldier compared to other nations. For training, for equipment, for pay, and for creature comforts that poorer nations simply don't. Don't mistake that with the ability to send soldiers from A to B.

What if Russia takes the West Side Iraq chasing ISIS while Iran takes the East.

It means our war in Iraq was a complete waste.

Although if the above scenario happens, then I imagine we will be stacking troops in Saudi Arabia all over again.

Putin is going to crush ISIS, and will reap the benefits.

All of our former allies in the region will look to him for protection. And I have no doubt he will succeed. He’ll have no issues wrapping each captured jihadi in bacon before shooting them.

That “170 Bombers” probably includes a lot of tactical fighter bombers. Russia only has about 66 TU-95s, 15 or so TU-160s, and maybe a hundred TU-22Ms, and they are not going to move Russia’s total strategic bomber fleet to Syria and abandon its nuclear deterrent for Syria, so I suspect that number includes SU-24s and SU-25s or other tactical fighter bombers.

Regardless, Putin may be our “Glavni Vrag”, but you have to admit, he has balls.

Vast fleets of bombers aren’t required to put ordinance on target any more. An F16 is capable of carrying more than enough for many missions.

The Ruskies airplanes aren’t the model of dependability either.
