Who Is Lori Ann Fiorina? Carly’s Stepdaughter Died Of Drug Overdose, Battled Addiction, Like Million

The loss of her stepdaughter, Lori Ann Fiorina, to addiction in 2009. It may be unusual for a public figure to share such personal tragedies so openly, but death by drug overdose is not uncommon in the United States.

“We need to tell young people the truth. Drug addiction is an epidemic, and it is taking too many of our young people,” Fiorina said during the debate. “My husband Frank and I buried a child to drug addiction.”

Wednesday’s debate was not the first time Fiorina brought up the death of her stepdaughter, whom she had known since Lori was six years old. “Lori was a bouncy, happy and loving child,” she wrote in her book "Rising to the Challenge," released in May. “She was smart and hardworking.”

Lori Ann Fiorina was just 35 years old when she died, and it remains unclear, at least publicly, what specific substances led to her death. But, Fiorina noted, “The news wasn’t completely unexpected. Lori had been battling addictions for years.” She had done three stints in rehab, and even when she was a college student her parents feared she drank excessively.

But after Lori Fiorina graduated from college, she seemed to thrive. She found a job in sales, an apartment and a husband. Little did Fiorina and her husband know that their daughter had begun to abuse prescription drugs, even as she struggled with bulimia and alcoholism.

The former HP CEO turned that experience into a call for action during Wednesday’s debate. “I know there are millions of Americans out there who will say the same thing” about having lost a child to addition, she said. “We must invest more in the treatment of drugs.”

That was great. Thanks.

Now I realize i probably did have bad reactions to cold turkey on the benzos, could explain why my anxiety never got better. Damaged to the system?

I take wellbutrin and it has helped alot, even though i didn’t believe they work, but that has helped less too over the years.

I get nervous twitches that are gonna send my head flying off my body one day lol.

I hate when they say this or that sickness can be a physical or mental illness. They are ALL physical!!

Started when pops died when i was 14. Not CRYING, life has been good. Just maybe a stressor like that alters brain chemistry somehow?

I dont know lol but thanks for the answer on the addiction thing.

Terrifying thought, but couldn’t they give something else (i know, awful idea) to counteract the body’s counteracting of benzos!!

She was still her child. I feel for her and hope that I never have to deal with burying any of my children, who are all adults now.

“At what age did you cease to be a child of your parents?”

My wife and I just had that conversation over this article. Our youngest is 31 and she has two older siblings. They are ALL still our children. But the issue here seems to be somewhat obuse here because we are talking about a medical conditon and prescription drugs.

when in fact her stepdaughter was 35 years old at the time. She was involved in the childs life for thirty years. Do you want to take it back?

Fiorina is being manipulative, parents do not refer to their adult offspring to strangers as children.

Didnt she say her husband and her buried a child? Wasn’t the daughter her husband’s child? According to the article, she knew the girl since she was 6, could it just be that after so many years she viewed her as her child, too? My husband’s stepmom would refer to my husband as her son and he was quite a few years older than 6 when my father in law and his wife got married. What are you guys, democrat plants?

I understand where you’re coming from.

On the other hand, if the mom did raise the girl, was almost exclusively the caregiver, provider, and long time in-home person, wouldn’t you resent the spouse of your ex who has barely even met the kid, claiming she was her daughter?

I’m not here to put step-moms down, because I firmly believe adoptive parents fill the bill. I’ve got no axe to grind when it comes to step-moms. They can be just as good as moms. I don’t deny that at all.

Geeze louise, after so many years, maybe she saw her as her child too, regardless of whether she was the real mom.

Again, it was her husband’s child, so she didn’t lie, what did you want, for her to go into a long explanation regardless of the fact that she had a limited amount of time to make her point? Love the way republicans do the democrats work for them. I saw the same thing in regards to Romney and look where we are now, with a president who has no respect for our laws and one who is constantly looking to give conservatives the finger. Loving that Iran nuclear deal? Or his executive actions on whatever take his fancy to enforce?

It could go either way I suppose. I just do not side with the mom automatically just because she is the mom. I know first hand that a drug addicted person infects a wide swath of people, especially family. Even small encounters can be traumatic. When it is your husband’s kid I would guess you are trying extra hard to get them to like you. The drug influenced interaction can be completely unreasonable.

The real mom was probably embarrassed more than anything. Who wants their dirty laundry aired in a presidential debate. I doubt Carly thought of it in that way. I would definitely give her the benefit of the doubt.

I am not voting for Carly for reasons entirely unrelated to this.

I beg of you, please do not support this follower of Hagel.

Hagel’s theory was to create a crisis out of thin air, then offer up yourself as the only one who can fix it.

That’s Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton’s gig. In 2001, she bragged of utilizing Hagel tactics.

If you want a Conservative, get behind Cruz. She is not a Conservative by any stretch of the imagination, and she has no record to point to for being qualified to be president.

If you split up with your ex wife, and she remarried, then hardly ever saw your daughter, how would you like her husband referring to the girl as his daughter in a debate?

This woman signed on to the McCain team in 2008. She and Meg Whitman were both working for him.

Learn more about her. You’ll come to the same conclusion I have in time.

That's the tragedy. Anything can be abused and cut life short.

Sad I have to point that out here of all places.

Such individuals: may well have a history of USING people and then discarding them when they are no longer of use. I have known a number of such people (both men and women) in my life.

I, too, have come across several such people. It is truly distasteful behavior. I find it to be a sign of other, and much more profound, character flaws.

In Aust., there was a newspaper profile of our opposition leader, Bill Shorten. I never thought particularly well of Shorten, but this article really showed him to be a man of low character.

Jackson is one of the few slighted friends to publicly hit out at Shorten. Former Networker Aaron Patrick is another: "I loved the guy," Patrick told Fairfax Media last year. "But then, when I was no longer of use politically, he ended the friendship and we didn't have any contact after that."...

Once Shorten secured his seat, says Mighell, the calls stopped coming. The new member for Maribyrnong had moved on. Mighell does not regret supporting his former union buddy but concedes he, and the electricians' union, may have been used for their votes in the ALP. "One thing about Bill Shorten is that if you're no value to him, he doesn't go out of his way to be your friend."...

Tim Costello agrees. He has worked with Shorten on policy matters over a number of years, but says that as Opposition Leader Shorten is politically unconvincing . "I fear that the early signs show a person who is still sniffing the wind rather than having an unequivocal, clear vision for the nation."

The article is appropriately titled: 'Bill Shorten the Shape Shifter.' You will be unsurprised to hear that he is also on to his second marriage, and has also changed his faith from being a Catholic to an Anglican.

Heaven help Australia if he ever becomes Prime Minister. But I think these details are of more than local interest. Shorten is a "type", and it is a very bad social type. They get ahead, but they offer nothing positive, and tend to corrupt the good work of others.

At the bottom of ALL voluntarily tragic human stories is one single stark problem: lack of love.

Talking about different ways that it manifests is kind of like talking about the different ways that plants can dry up and die in a drought. Well yes, but the most important thing is that they DO.

This is something glaringly needing help at a theological (faith) level. Shallow human relationships won’t do.

The REAL mom was pissed about it.

The source of the faulty genes.

Being not the source of the bad genes, one would expect Carly to bury the subject. But she did not. That's to her credit.

Apparently, a daughter that is 35 years old is not a child. To me, my children will ALWAYS be my children, no matter the age.

And if Carly didn’t think of, treat as and refer to her as her child, people would accuse her of being an evil stepmother.

She’s not my candidate by a mile, but jeesh!

?

Wow. One must wonder exactly what type of genes you inherited to publicly beclown yourself with such a "WTF" statement.

Following such douched-up logic, Carly chose one of the "bad gene" donor parents as a mating partner.
