Who Is Lori Ann Fiorina? Carly’s Stepdaughter Died Of Drug Overdose, Battled Addiction, Like Million

The loss of her stepdaughter, Lori Ann Fiorina, to addiction in 2009. It may be unusual for a public figure to share such personal tragedies so openly, but death by drug overdose is not uncommon in the United States.

“We need to tell young people the truth. Drug addiction is an epidemic, and it is taking too many of our young people,” Fiorina said during the debate. “My husband Frank and I buried a child to drug addiction.”

Wednesday’s debate was not the first time Fiorina brought up the death of her stepdaughter, whom she had known since Lori was six years old. “Lori was a bouncy, happy and loving child,” she wrote in her book "Rising to the Challenge," released in May. “She was smart and hardworking.”

Lori Ann Fiorina was just 35 years old when she died, and it remains unclear, at least publicly, what specific substances led to her death. But, Fiorina noted, “The news wasn’t completely unexpected. Lori had been battling addictions for years.” She had done three stints in rehab, and even when she was a college student her parents feared she drank excessively.

But after Lori Fiorina graduated from college, she seemed to thrive. She found a job in sales, an apartment and a husband. Little did Fiorina and her husband know that their daughter had begun to abuse prescription drugs, even as she struggled with bulimia and alcoholism.

The former HP CEO turned that experience into a call for action during Wednesday’s debate. “I know there are millions of Americans out there who will say the same thing” about having lost a child to addition, she said. “We must invest more in the treatment of drugs.”

Step moms are step-moms. They may take on a larger role if they are the in home provider and nurturer. In that instance Carly could have referred to Lori Ann as her child, and I don’t think anyone would have challenged her. Carly did neither.

She referenced Lori Ann as if she were her own daughter, and Lori Ann’s mom got angry about it. Can’t say as I blame her.

The child lived with her actual mom on the East coast. Carly had very little contact with the kid.

i’m sorry to hear about her daughter. it sounds as if her daughter was self-medicating and a tormented soul.

now i’ll put on the analysis hat to support the fact that carly is being misleading here. her daughter either died of an accidental overdose or she committed suicide. carly’s not being direct. she didn’t say which or whether she didn’t know.

but she is talking just like a classic leftist by blaming the suicide or overdose on “drug addiction.” she’s deflecting the responsibility from her daughter onto society. so what does the leftist fiorina want to do about.

i wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a closet or past gun-control advocate as well. the pattern of thinking is classic and well established.

one more question i’ll ask about fiorina. does anybody know is she a professing Christian? i’m curious as a Christian myself. Christians (conservatives) don’t blame society or drug addiction for their afflictions. that’s a leftist pattern

That would be a matter of perspective. To most parents, their children are always their children.

An adult child is still your child. I would give her a break on that. I have no intention of voting for her but making an issue of this would be hugely tacky. I believe her comments were heart felt. Even if they were not, kids are off limits. That includes adult kids unless the adult inserts themselves. Carly used the story to explain her position but that does not mean I favor using it back. We should have the class to leave these sorts of things alone. There are other things to pick at.

No she lied....

Carly said she was for the war on drugs, which we all know is illegal drugs because she and her husband buried their child.....

It turns out she is not eh biological mother. It turns out the child was married, living 3000 miles away, and died or LEGAL Prescription drugs and alcohol and NOT ILLLEGAL drugs as she implied why Carly is for the war on terror.

Any woman that would exploit ANOTHER BIOLOGICAL CHILD’S DEATH for political gain is LOW LIFE RAT!

Although I get that sometimes people, yourself for instance, hold a core belief that is very strong.... When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted..... It creates a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance.

And because it is so important to protect the core belief, Carly could do no wrong, they will rationalize, ignore, and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with that core belief. Just saying…

I listened to the debate and understood Carly to imply their daughter died from illegal drugs. Not prescription drugs and alcohol as this article says. Either way the death was sad but it could have been misleading. That was the lie.

Wouldn’t an addiction mean i didn’t stop taking it when it stopped working?

I get it if it’s your biological child, and not a 35 year old step daughter that was married living 3000 miles away.

Carly said my husband and I buried our child.

Well Carly is not the mother. The mother is still alive and was at the Funeral.

Furthermore, it was for LEGAL drugs and NOT ILLEGAL as she implied why she was for the War on Drugs.

Leave her family out of the equation. There is plenty of Meat with HP, Lucent, odd Iran deals, unpleasant nature, etc. Leave her family out of this debate. I think folks know I am a pretty big Trump booster. Leave the daughters tragedy alone.

Ms Fiorina was dishonest and misleading in her statment that they “buried a child”, when in fact her stepdaughter was 35 years old at the time.

And what does her being 35 years old make the statement "dishonest and misleading"? At a certain point someone is no longer the child of their parents? That makes no sense.

It does not make sense because they were talking about the War on Illegal Drugs and NOT LEGAL drugs (prescriptions and alcohol).

This is not even her child, and the mother, as you can imagine, is very upset at Carly for using the death of her child for political gain.

Step-moms are real moms.
*****************************************************************************
Yes, many step-moms can be real moms and good ones, at that. However, SOME step-moms aren’t at all “real moms”. And some step-moms may use a step child’s death to curry good feelings toward said step-mom. Such step-moms may well have a history of USING people and then discarding them when they are no longer of use. I have known a number of such people (both men and women) in my life.

I was one of the folks that Carly misled by her discussion involving what I was led to believe was the death of HER biological child. Instead, it was the death of her husband’s child who was raised by his first wife and died a continent away. Carly is a sociopath IMHO.

Step-moms are real moms

So says you. Lori's own (REAL) mother says otherwise.

That's not how I remember it. Lori was MY daughter and I grieve her every day.

Oh, and then there's this:

Frank Fiorina had two daughters, Traci and Lori Ann, from his first marriage. Their mother, Patricia, was awarded custody of the two, following the divorce.

LINK

So no, Carly the Climber was NOT Lori's "real" mom.

Her daughter might have died of an addiction to legally prescribed drugs, but I can see how she related it to illegal drugs and I don’t have a problem with her point. It’s a silly point to try and say why she should not be the Republican candidate because of this personal point.

There may be other reasons why she shouldn’t be the Republican nominee, but this isn’t one of them.
