Jindal: Trump 'a madman who must be stopped'
The Hill ^ | September 15, 2015 | Mark Hensch

Posted on 09/15/2015 2:27:58 PM PDT by maggief

Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) said on Tuesday that conservatives could only win in 2016 by abandoning GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“Sane conservatives need to stop enabling him,” Jindal wrote in an op-ed published by CNN.

“They need to stop praising him, stop being afraid of him and stop treating him rationally,” he said. “Conservatives need to say what we are thinking: Donald Trump is a madman who must be stopped,” added Jindal, himself a Republican White House hopeful.

Jindal argued that Trump is duping voters by seeking to present himself like former President Ronald Reagan on the campaign trail.

“Like a kid in a superhero costume, Trump compares himself to Ronald Reagan, wearing the Gipper’s slogan on his forehead as if he just thought of it,” he wrote, referencing Trump’s frequent insistence that he will “make America great again.”

“But whereas Reagan was a terrible entertainer and a great statesman, Trump is a great entertainer who would be a terrible statesman,” the Louisiana governor added.

Jindal also said that letting Trump become the Republican nominee would virtually guarantee a Democratic victory in the general election next year.

“The problem with Donald Trump is that he will never be president,” he asserted. “His nomination as the Republican candidate would gift the White House to Hillary Clinton.”Failure to speak out against Trump is an endorsement of Clinton.”

“If you want to stick it to the man so badly that you are willing to see Clinton win, vote for Trump,” Jindal added. “But if you want a politically conservative revolution, I’m the guy who can lead it.”

Jindal began assailing Trump’s campaign during a scathing address at the National Press Club in Washington last week.

Trump countered by stating that he only responds to “people that register more than 1 percent in the polls.”

Jindal ranks 14th out of 16prominent Republican White House hopefuls, with less than 1 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average..

Trump, in contrast, commands first place with the support of 29.8 percent of Republican voters nationwide.

Bobby,

You have maybe 1%. No one cares what you think.

I respected you at one time. Now you’re just a clown show.

“What concerns me is that there have been other leaders with great crowds. They did not work out well.”

That is the talking point that came out today, to make suggestions to the suggestible. Reagan had large, enthusiastic crowds; I was in one of them. I was in a Bush #1 crowd once during his second run; it was low-key. Historically, the winning candidate has very large crowds. That is why they win.

I still like Jindal. But he’s just doing what his donors are telling him to do. He doesn’t mean any of it.

That said, I wonder how Jindal or anyone else can know how “statesmanlike” Trump is away from the public eye. His employees describe a totally different person behind the scenes.

This, from the guy the GOPe touted as a real comer on the national scene when he was selected to give the televised Republican response to Obama in February 2009.

He was a terrible presence then and he’s terribly bitter - and even more underwhelming - now.

“Donald Trump is a madman who must be stopped.”

How can you utter such a sentence and not know that the irreparable harm will be to yourself, not your opponent. Not that I care. I still remember when Jindal said he differed from his fellow Republicans on the issue of universal health care. When voters expressed their rage about the ACA, he suddenly was no longer saying that.

Reagan was a terrible entertainer? The star of “The Hasty Heart” was a terrible entertainer? The man who brought down the house with his “I knew Thomas Jefferson...” was a terrible entertainer??? This guy can go to hell and not in a nice way.

And the day of striking back against Trump continues... So this is what it looks like when the GOPe comes after you. Entertaining - thank you Trump for shaking them to their roots.

To Jindal, hey, got this odd and unusual idea: How about you, and everyone else, actually start campaigning for our votes rather than slinging mud balls at Reagan and Trump?

Just a thought.

This is my new litmus test. I’m not saying people have to like Trump or agree with Trump or say they’re going to vote for Trump.

But if they are clearly jumping on the anti-Trump bandwagon to do the bidding of the GOPe, I don’t like them anymore.

Jindal is clearly doing that.

Fiorina is clearly doing that.

Sad to hear Bobby is such a drama queen.
His college sorority was probably the same way when he was a member while in college.

If you’re enabling Trump, you’re not a conservative. His social positions are purely libertarian, and like all libertarians, he wants the government to enforce them.
