There’s Only One Candidate People Actually Like – and It’s Not Trump or Clinton (it's Ben Carson)
The Fiscal Times ^ | September 3, 2015 | Rob Garver

Posted on 09/03/2015 6:00:55 PM PDT by EveningStar

The only one of the declared presidential candidates that Americans have positive feelings for overall isn’t a frontrunner and has never held public office before. According to a poll released Thursday by Public Policy Polling, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is the sole presidential candidate whose favorability rating is higher than his or her unfavorability rating.

When asked about Carson, 41 percent of the respondents in the national poll reported that they felt favorably about him, compared to 30 percent who have an unfavorable view. That puts him well ahead of all the other candidates in the field, though 29 percent of respondents said they were not familiar enough with Carson to make a judgment about him, suggesting that those numbers could change as he becomes more widely known. The only other candidate to come close to an overall favorable rating was former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who at 32/35 had an overall favorability rating of -3.

Then the writer is not up on all the current polls

Several show that Trump has achieved the “ impossible” by virtually reversing his favorable/ unfavorable ratings in the last 6 weeks and is close to 6o% favorable now

Monmouth poll, CNN poll, Iowa De Moines register poll and others ... Can’t post links but you can find them with the right search terms

I think the polls may reflect the question being asked
Do you like Carson? Sure, what’s not to like . he has been smart and polite plus he’s a demigod aka a doctor

Do you want him deciding whether to launch WW 3 or lead us through it.... errrrm. How about a great depression? Will Carson’s business and financial background help him choose good advisors and make good decisions? errrmmmm

The writer is looking specifically at the poll by PPP.

BTW, I’m for Cruz. I don’t think Carson stands a chance.

Megyn said Trump attacked Carson. Huh? Trump just told the truth - that Carson never created jobs. Carson spent yrs saving lives, Trump created jobs. Both are important.

Since people are so angry and fed up with our government, it makes sense that they want a president who is not a politician.

How much worse could Ben Carson be than the recent presidents we’ve had?

Our last great president, Ronald Reagan, spent most of his life as an actor. And he wasn’t even a great actor.

Brain surgery is harder than acting, and Ben Carson was one of our greatest brain surgeons.

Running for the presidency is hard, too, especially if you don’t have millions of dollars flowing into your coffers from corporate fat cats and the media virtually ignores you while covering one of your opponents night and day, yet Ben Carson has done a great job of building support. As has Carly Fiorina.

Carson/Fiorina 2016

Selective Service records retrieved by The Smoking Gun website from the National Archives show that, although Trump did eventually receive a high selective service lottery number, he was not drafted earlier because of his student deferments (2-S) while attending college, and after receiving a medical deferment (1-Y, later converted to 4-F) prior to the lottery being initiated.[32]

My uncle, virtually the same age as me, died in 68 in the Tet Offensive. Mom was one of the older of many children, and my uncle was the youngest. I remember fishing, playing tackle football on a pile of sugar cane stalks, and an infamous snipe hunt where I was left holding the bag. Wonderful young man, a product of the deep Appalachian south, an accent that wouldn't quit, and a chaw of tobacco from 13 years on. He was Huck Finn in many ways to me.

I wish he'd had a student deferment.

The US people had already started agitating to end the war, and Nixon won partly based on getting us out of Vietnam. Those long years of battlefield losses and no effort to win marked my beliefs about war that have remained solid to this day.

It's immoral to put troops in harm's way when the leadership has little interest in winning.

I don't resent those who found a way out. It was rational from 1968 until the end. Many in my basic unit in 1970 were using the national guard as the equivalent of a student deferment. How do I know? We talked about it.

I notice more and more of the media are starting to push hard on Carson. I don’t think he’s strong enough to be President.

Trump has never galloped into any battle. He was a draft dodger which these days will accrue to his favor of course.
................... BFD, I had a unit of Draft Dodgers after I left the active service. (yeah, yeah, they volunteered, but if we got called up, we’d have to send out search parties to find them.)

That is probably THE worst possible GOP ticket, outside of a jebbie/carly ticket......EVER !

The Dem, any DEM, would win in a landslide !

Based on what, exactly, because Trump has higher poll numbers than Carson. Seems people like Trump.

Here's your answer: Released on FOX News tonight, the latest Monmouth Poll Aug. 31-Sep. 2, in a head-to-head match-up between Carson and Trump, with all other candidates omitted: Carson 55% / Trump 36%. So, if the race narrows down between Carson and Trump.............. Go figure!

I make no bones that I don’t trust Trump and the image of trump as a warrior was a bit too much for me. It denigrates warriors. I know lots of guys who never served back then, it was the rule not the exception. not many of us were regular Army. I don’t trust Trump at all and thats not gonna change. Evidently what has changed here is that Clinton was a draft dodger while Trump was a sharp guy who wrangled a 2s into a 4f. Such is life.

I was saying that long before Ben Carson came on the scene. America will NOT elect another Black man for quite a long while.

Yes, that seems to be the strategy. They will try to start a war of words between Carson and Trump and take Carson’s side, painting Trump as a racist, among other things. If they can successfully use this strategy against Trump, once he’s gone, the media and GOPe will roll over Carson in a week. Then here comes Bush and Rubio.

Its pretty transparent. At least to me.

I’m with Trump! He’s the only one stirring it up and making my complaints of the GOPe and this sorry mess we’re in today front and center! I like Cruz but without Trump stirring the pot and making brash bold statements, old Yeb would be leading and Cruz and Carson would be where Bush is NOW!

I do like Cruz. Trump talks a good game, but I'm still somewhat skeptical of him. I do like how he's been handling certain members of the press, of course.

It’s the way the GOPe and media have always done this!

There's a conspiracy between the media and the establishment Republicans? Really?

One of Trump's personal "heroes" is Patton.

He may not have served, but he gets it and would take3 advice from the military; many of whom he knows.

Be "skeptic all you want to be, but he is what he is and there's nothing hiding in his closets!

I too like Cruz, but sadly he isn't and shan't be going anywhere. A Trump/Cruz ticket would be fantastic!

When did I ever claim that their is a conspiracy ?

I’ve known neurosurgeons. My wife is a hospital administrator. They are the most nerdy boring people out there.

Orthopedic surgeons on the other hand usually got interested in bones because they broke one or two as kids.

My guess is his closets are full of brown suits. Boring, brown suits. With nice ties.
