There’s Only One Candidate People Actually Like – and It’s Not Trump or Clinton (it's Ben Carson)

You’re missing a few things. First Reagan was a two term governor of California before becoming president. Carson has zero elected office experience and I know of no executive experience of any kind that he has, although he may have some I don’t know of.

Also Reagan himself said that having been an actor was a great advantage because he could play the role, he had decades of public speaking experience, a great voice and a commanding presence, he even said that he could not imagine how someone who had NOT been an actor could do the job. Can you imagine Dr. Carson saying he could not imagine how someone who had NOT been a neurosurgeon could do the job?

The question is not whether it is harder to be a neurosurgeon than an actor, to Dr. Carson it may be much easier to be a neurosurgeon while most actors would have zero chance of ever being a neurosurgeon. The point is that acting experience makes it much easier to deliver a state of the union message and easier to do a lot of things a president must do. I have a hard time believing that experience as a neurosurgeon is a great advantage to a president.

Being exceptionally good at an extremely difficult specialty does not necessarily mean you are great at other things. I have seen too many people who are great at a specialty but unimpressive otherwise. In short I have the utmost respect for Dr. Carson but I have seen little evidence to indicate that he would be a competent president.

My, what a nasty hostile tirade.

So you equate quietness, gentleness and calm with weakness?

You are very wrong. And that is the point.

Neither is “no executive experience” a qualifier. Early presidents were often of no such thing, but that didn’t hurt. In fact, not only would it be nice to get away from politicos and their lawyer feeders, but even someone who is not the typical cloth at all.

BTW, don’t equate defense of Carson as cutting down others necessarily. I just have a much more open mind. Trump - if he can be trusted given all his Dem/liberal condoning via his shows and other actions - is fine with his in-your-face behavior. On the 1 hand we need someone who will really “speak Truth to Power”, but steady, thoughtful backing is also important for a movement to win.

The AmRevWar worked ultimately because there was a solid mixture of steady hands working quietly and thoughtfully, intellectually and reasonably, along with enthusiastic bombastic action heroes. Too much of 1 or the other and it all dies out.

” He was a draft dodger which these days will accrue to his favor of course.”

He was not. A “Draft dodger” was someone who fled to Canada or simply did not comply with the law. Trump complied perfectly with the law. He received deferments based on college as many people did.

So Clinton was not a draft dodger either and all the freepers using that term about Slick need to apologize. Right Toad?

Your problem is that you think everyone thinks like you do. Maybe you think they should, but they most certainly don’t.

Anyway, I tried to explain why Carson beats Trump in a one to one matchup, but you don’t think that’s possible so you’re immune to the explanation. And all I was doing is rationalizing an actual result of a real poll. You’re so convinced you’re right about it all that you don’t even want to consider the possibility that a poll of real people might actually be telling you something about your hero, The Donald.

Hint: Just because this forum has turned into a Trump echo chamber doesn’t mean everyone, even among conservatives, agrees with you about his prospects or his capabilities.

You don’t have a very good memory. Clinton lied, broke the law, to avoid the draft. That is a draft dodger.

Whatever. Bone spurs, bs letters, influence. 6 of one, a half dozen of the other. I won’t be apologizing to Slick or Donald though. Cheers!

Your points are well taken. However, as of now, Carson is a tad bit ahead of Trump in IA. If he wins the first contest, he could build momentum and go into the Final Three.
