There’s Only One Candidate People Actually Like – and It’s Not Trump or Clinton (it's Ben Carson)
The Fiscal Times ^ | September 3, 2015 | Rob Garver

The only one of the declared presidential candidates that Americans have positive feelings for overall isn’t a frontrunner and has never held public office before. According to a poll released Thursday by Public Policy Polling, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is the sole presidential candidate whose favorability rating is higher than his or her unfavorability rating.

When asked about Carson, 41 percent of the respondents in the national poll reported that they felt favorably about him, compared to 30 percent who have an unfavorable view. That puts him well ahead of all the other candidates in the field, though 29 percent of respondents said they were not familiar enough with Carson to make a judgment about him, suggesting that those numbers could change as he becomes more widely known. The only other candidate to come close to an overall favorable rating was former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who at 32/35 had an overall favorability rating of -3.

They might like him, but I don’t think he understands veterans at all.

Let’s focus on competence and not “likability”. There’s a lot of people I like but would not trust with any responsible executive position.

I am for Crux but Mrs. Dog loves Ben Carson, thinks he walks on water

*******************************************************************

Tell her Carson only does that because he can’t swim.

Carson offers nothing, he may be conservative on some things and a man with a big heart but that’s not what we need. We need a man on horseback galloping like Braveheart into battle.

Then why does he beat Trump in head to head matchups by double figures? He must be offering something that Republican primary voters like, no?

The writer does not say that Carson can be elected or that he's qualified to be President. His main point is just that Carson is the only declared presidential candidate whose favorability rating is higher than his unfavorability rating. That's pretty much it.

Like and want as president are two very different things. I would NEVER vote for him as president and Republicans would hand the election to the Democrats if Carson was the candidate. He is clueless and if you listen to him you will conclude he is a nice guy, like able more so that Walker and others, but not someone ready for the White House.

Trump has never galloped into any battle. He was a draft dodger which these days will accrue to his favor of course.

F&F try as they might to pump Carson every day. Ailes’s bosses (the Rupert spawn) despise DT. And again, Morning Joe and Mika do a pretty good job of reporting the race although Mika has a a definite crush on The Donald. In her eyes he looks like her future ex.

There’s only one reason why the libs would all suddenly be flacking for Dr. Carson. IMHO, it’s because they’ve sized him up, see him as low key and mild-mannered, and a fine candidate for being rolled whenever they please to do it.

Do you think the writer is a lib flacking for Carson?

I Admire the man. Amazing life story and a lot of courage to stand up to Obama like he did. I wish him nothing but good fortune and success.

Just asking the question...

Will Donald Trump have the Jesse Jackson problem?

When Jackson would run in the Democratic Presidential Primaries, against 6 or 8 other candidates, he would poll as #1 at about 27-30%.

As soon as the primaries filtered down to only 2 or 3 candidates, Jackson would have the same 27-30%, and drop out.

As less popular candidates drop out, will their support go to others, but not Trump?.

In a new reliable poll, in a two person race, Trump loses badly to Dr. Carson; 56-38.

What happens in 5 months when it is a 2 or 3 person race?

Just asking...

More of the Rove strategy to siphon support from Donald Trump using Carson rather than Jeb Bush.

See post 47. This is not a Karl Rove conspiracy.

Carson/Fiorina ticket would give the Dems the largest landslide victory in history.

I doubt that, in 5 months, Carson will still have such a high "likeable" quotient.

He's unelectable and should be !
