Trump, Carson in close fight in Iowa poll

The Bloomberg/Des Moines Register survey released on Saturday finds that the two are tied in Iowa caucus-goer support when voters’ first and second choices for the Republican coronation are combined.

Each is the first or second choice of 32 percent of respondents.

Trump won the poll overall, getting 23 percent support. Carson comes in second at 18 percent. The next-closest competitors are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) at 8 percent each.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are tied for fifth place with 6 percent support each. After them is Carly Fiorina at 5 percent, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at 4 percent each.

Tenth place is a three-way tie between Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

“Trump and Carson, one bombastic and the other sometimes soft-spoken, could hardly be more different in their outward presentations,” said J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., who conducted the poll, according to Bloomberg.

“Yet they’re both finding traction because they don’t seem like politicians and there’s a strong demand for that right now,” she added.

Saturday’s poll found that Trump is vastly improving his position in Iowa since launching his presidential campaign in June.

He is now rated favorably by 61 percent of Republican voters there, with 35 percent ranking him unfavorably.

The poll also found that 69 percent of first-time caucus-goers and 73 percent of Tea Party supporters are backing the outspoken billionaire.

It added that 29 percent would never vote for Trump, a number that has is half of what it was in the last Bloomberg/Des Moines Register sampling in May.

The survey found that Carson is buoyed in Iowa by his likable public persona and his vocal Christian faith.

It said that 79 percent likely GOP caucus-goers view the retired neurosurgeon favorably, the highest score in the GOP’s entire 2016 field.

He also leads the hunt for Iowa’s evangelical demographic with 23 percent of their support.

Trump is currently the frontrunner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination across multiple national polls.

The latest RealClearPolitics average of polls has the businessman with 23.5 percent support, and Carson in second place at 10.3 percent.

Not “new “and not “ just ok’d “ ( over 2 years ago ) . Heck , it isn’t even across the street from the White House !

GOOD POINT.. but 2 years is not long.. Its a new project for TRUMP.. My point was very good relations with the Beast with the Mulatto head.. AND his staff..

Not distant or adversarial at all..

Between Trump and Carson, I’d rather have Trump. Carson’s nice, Trump is a fihter and a leader. Trump has the real world executive experience. What experience does Carson have?

I was wrong. SDA does accept that Jesus is God.

I’m pretty sure the Constitution framers didn’t intend that we use a person’s religion to be a criterion when electing a president. In fact, it’s just the opposite. If Freedom of Religion is a Constitutional right for citizens, then why not the President?

The article says that Carson is a Christian. I do not believe that is correct. No trinity then no Christian.

And didn't Dr. Carson refer women to an abortionist?

What, another “poll”? Polls are like noses (or singular other parts of your body), everyone has one.

Carson is a nice man, but has as much chance of winning the GOP nomination as I do and that’s none.

1. You are wrong. SDA loudly proclaims the Trinity.

2. Right now we have a Mohammedan who pretends to be Christian. Try to understand the parable of the mote and the beam. While you may consider SDA a cult, most Americans, including me, do not. The differences between Carson's beliefs and mine are but a tiny mote compared to the differences between mine and Obama's.

And don't even think about calling Hillary's "faith" not a cult. She is a godless heathen who worships money and her own self-interest. She has unnatural relationships with other women.

Carson is much better than Trump. Carson has no record of being friends with the Clintons and being pro-tax, pro-homosexuality and pro-government like the Donald.

I hope that Carson will soon overtake Trump.

I have always preferred that our leaders bend a knee to God because I believe it helps them lead.
That said, I don’t care.
I saw a double standard cropping up at the beginning of the thread. Someone questioning Carson’s Christian beliefs.
It’s the height of hypocrisy, and intellectual dishonesty.
The guy who posted the slam on Carson realized he made an error, and I accepted that he made an error, and on we went to other subjects.
We hold all candidates to the same standard, is all I asked for.
