Trump says it’s time to move on from gay ‘marriage’ battle: ‘The Supreme Court ruled.’

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – The GOP's leading presidential candidate said that he has been to a gay "wedding" and that conservatives should accept the Supreme Court's redefinition of marriage.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Trump was asked whether the issue of marriage's redefinition is "a dead issue for the GOP at this point."

"Some people have hopes of passing amendments [to the U.S. Constitution]," said Trump, "but it's not going to happen. Congress can't pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody that's making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it."

In June, Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper that he had evolved on the issue of marriage, and supports "traditional marriage." At the time, he was pressed by Tapper on whether Trump's three marriages undermined his position.

"They have a very good point," said Trump. "I have a great marriage. I have a great wife now. And I – my two wives were very good. And I don't blame them. But I was working, maybe like you, 22 hours a day."

"I blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," he said.

Trump told the Reporter that he had been to the gay "wedding" of Broadway theater owner Jordan Roth.

The biggest irony of the Trump phenomena is his slogan: ‘Make America great again.’ Implicit in the slogan is the admission that America is no longer great. Right? But in the things he really cares about, things like economic strength, trade, etc., America is undoubtedly still great. Greater than any nation on earth. And we are still the most powerful, the greatest, military power on earth as well. So how have we lost our greatness? We’ve lost our greatness by abandoning the true source of that greatness, which is our moral basis. A basis that seems to be totally foreign to Donald Trump. Imagine that. A man who made his billions as a builder and developer has no understanding of, or care about, foundations. Remind me not to stay in one of his hotels...

I don't see Trump being in a position to have a VP slot to offer to anyone.

Trump demonstrates once again that he doesn’t even understand what kind of government we have. He is blind to the fact that this is a constitutional republic, not a judicial oligarchy.

The idea that the judges are our rulers, even to the extent of the courts having authority to rule directly against the laws of nature and nature’s God, and/or the Constitution of the United States, is in fact a coup d’etat.

A coup d’etat that Trump blindly, blithely, goes along with.

"I do not forget the position assumed by some that constitutional questions are to be decided by the Supreme Court, nor do I deny that such decisions must be binding in any case upon the parties to a suit as to the object of that suit, while they are also entitled to very high respect and consideration in all parallel cases by all other departments of the Government. And while it is obviously possible that such decision may be erroneous in any given case, still the evil effect following it, being limited to that particular case, with the chance that it may be overruled and never become a precedent for other cases, can better be borne than could the evils of a different practice. At the same time, the candid citizen must confess that if the policy of the Government upon vital questions affecting the whole people is to be irrevocably fixed by decisions of the Supreme Court, the instant they are made in ordinary litigation between parties in personal actions the people will have ceased to be their own rulers, having to that extent practically resigned their Government into the hands of that eminent tribunal."

Trump shoots himself in the foot. This will cost him.

I see him as the only one with the resources to defeat the GOP/Democrat/Media cartel.

Excellent post.

The people who run around saying that America is like a third world country have never been to a third world country. We STILL have the largest economy in the world (the lesson of the past few weeks is that the Chinese economy is a giant house of cards built on lies) and our economy still drives the world.

People thought Carter had destroyed America and Reagan restored hope within days; it can be done again, but only by a true conservative.

Donald Trump inherited a large fortune and built it into a larger one, not unlike Romney and the Bushes (all of whom also had conservative "conversions" at opportune moments). There's more to being president than personal wealth and saying what people want to hear, America needs leadership not showmanship.

“Conservative” Trump says conservatives should accept Extreme Court’s redefinition of marriage. Regardless of what Trump and the government say I will never accept such a “definition”. Only God defines marriage, not man. The more I hear so-called “conservatives” mouth such idiocy as Trump has, the more I’m convinced this country will not be saved from destruction. I believe it *can* be saved. I just don’t believe it *will* be saved.

Sorry, once SCOTUS got its claws into the mix, it was already decided.

The blame goes to Congress for NOT smacking SCOTUS down, tellin’ ‘em ‘NO TOUCHY’.

Trump is ONLY good as far as he can cajole more conservatives to be more outspoken. That is his only function.

Trump could burn down the Capitol Building and his supporters would be cheering about how we finally found someone who could get a fire started and wasn't it the biggest, most beautiful, most fabulous fire that history has ever seen?

True, and his biggest fan, Ann Coulter, even tweeted that if Trump solves illegal immigration, she would be fine with him performing a late term abortion in the Oval Office. This is the same Ann Coulter who was all worried about a few stray moments in the 35 year career of Newt Gingrich.

Not me. Some on here seem to think a president can change the SC ruling. Not going to happen.

I agree. But many here who agree that the president can't change the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage seem to also believe that Trump can impose taxes on remittances on his own; or can end birth-right citizenship without a constitutional amendment, etc. All I ask is that they be consistent - acknowledge that a lot of what Trump has proposed, even if you agree with it, is not likely to happen unless he can get Congress to go along. If he recognizes that it would be impossible to get Congress to pass an amendment changing same-sex marriage, what makes him think he could get them to pass anything changing birthright citizenship?

Trump has a point here. Congress is currently impotent and corrupted. Until we wholesale replace who is representing us, it aint going to happen no matter how much you stay at home on election day.

Agreed. Just because the Supreme Court rules on something it doesn’t become set in stone.

I wish Congress would exercise it’s constitutional authority over the courts perview.
