Trump says it’s time to move on from gay ‘marriage’ battle: ‘The Supreme Court ruled.’

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – The GOP's leading presidential candidate said that he has been to a gay "wedding" and that conservatives should accept the Supreme Court's redefinition of marriage.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Donald Trump was asked whether the issue of marriage's redefinition is "a dead issue for the GOP at this point."

"Some people have hopes of passing amendments [to the U.S. Constitution]," said Trump, "but it's not going to happen. Congress can't pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody that's making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it."

In June, Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper that he had evolved on the issue of marriage, and supports "traditional marriage." At the time, he was pressed by Tapper on whether Trump's three marriages undermined his position.

"They have a very good point," said Trump. "I have a great marriage. I have a great wife now. And I – my two wives were very good. And I don't blame them. But I was working, maybe like you, 22 hours a day."

"I blame myself because my business was so powerful for me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing," he said.

Trump told the Reporter that he had been to the gay "wedding" of Broadway theater owner Jordan Roth.

The trouble is - that bell has rung. All these little perverts are going to get married between now and the next election. A president can’t go in and now tell them they aren’t married - the feds are even giving them spousal benefits. I don’t know how this issue can be solved by Trump or anyone else. Maybe it can be handled at the state level. Look how long abortion has been legal - since 1973 and just now is becoming an issue with the PP videos being released. Like most - we were sickened that the SC ruled the way they did, but, I saw it coming, as I think most did. They should have pushed it back to the states to decide. Some already had gay marriage legal - but not all.

And yet - I seem to remember Trump supporters and others castigating Kasich as a GOPe lackey for saying basically the same thing during the debate.

The new FR: If you don’t mindlessly hate Donald Trump, you’re a troll — TOO funny!

Thanks so much for all the personal attacks this morning!

I see why Trump’s numbers are increasing.

Amendments were passed to the Florida state Constitution by a popular vote of 68%. yet it was overturned by a single federal judge.

when did federal courts have say over state constitutions?

WHO says marriage is strictly a religious matter? Are murder, rape and crime religious issues also? Since these issues are Biblically based also, should we leave them up to individual churches also?

If the state can grant a license for it, they can regulate/ mandate it. The state is forcing business to violate their religious beliefs. How long till they force Churches to do the same.

My view is libertarian, not liberal.

I listened to him. He’s saying he supports natural marriage and that he supports life.

Why are folks not marching in the streets to pass a pro-life amendment? Why is it so hard even to get pro-life legislation passed?

Because the amendment threshold is 75% and the legislation threshold under filibuster rules is 60% and 67% with a democrat president.

Don’t try logical thinking on those who have decided that Trump is just Obama in white-face.

These are the people who would rather nominate McCain or Romney again, than EVER go off the GOPe plantation!

Spot on posts. I was going to add....don’t try clearing the distortions with facts :)

Not me. Some on here seem to think a president can change the SC ruling. Not going to happen.

You made an absurd and silly comment in # 18. And every time someone corrected you and gave examples of how you were wrong, you basically replied “KEEP ‘EM COMING!!!”

KEEP ‘EM COMING?

How many more times should we show you how wrong you were? Why not just admit now that yes, you were wrong and yes, people really do adore Trump in the same way that Obama was worshipped?

Listened to Mark Levin’s show last night. He says he is going to endorse the most conservative candidate and that he doesn’t agree with tariffs. This tells me he is going to endorse Ted Cruz. He keeps saying tariffs brought on the Great Depression, which isn’t true. It doesn’t matter to me who someone else endorses, it has no effect on me. I don’t think Cruz can beat the left - I honestly don’t.

The problem with Trump is that he has changed positions over the last 2 decades on life, on marriage, on assault weapons, and a few other issues that don’t come to mind right now. He’s strong on defense, strong on homeland security, strong on fiscal sanity, strong on American exceptionalism.

He also doesn’t need to go to the daddy warbucks of our day to fund his campaign, thereby making secret deals that don’t become evident until after an election. That is part of the reason people believe that with Trump ‘what you see is what you get.’

What they see has some rough edges, and there’s a trust factor involving some of his conversions, but how is that different than other candidates like Romney, McCain, Dole, etc., over the years.

Moreover, the GOP has failed. They have lied. They have cowered, manipulated, capitulated, and betrayed. Why in the world would any sane person support them again if there’s a decent alternative?

In a reality based world, Cruz did not have the firepower to overcome the Bush/media coalition. Trump does. And if Cruz is the VP, then Cruz becomes the heir apparent.

He needs to understand Conservatism first. Then he can start to understand the GOPe.

But let's get bogged down with the fantasy of stripping people of their citizenship and deporting them. LOL

Illegals are citizens? You learn something every day on FR.

I love the way you moderates ooze up out of the slime in every election and try to manipulate whichever direction you personally think it should go.

Because thinking that there are bigger fish to fry at the moment makes me a moderate? I'm sure making gay marriage the big issue of this campaign will be a surefire winner. /sarc

Who here besides you have said any of that?

I've seen Trump compared to Reagan and Churchill here. Many times. That is, when some other delusional people are not theorizing he was sent by God/doing the Lord's work.

Be careful - you will get flamed as a RINO or worse by the Trumpkins if you even imply that The Donald is anything less than 100% pure conservative...

Libertarians want the government out of our lives, liberals want the government involved in every aspect. They have this invention called a dictionary, it might help you.

Trump is correct and he is being honest about this. Homo marriage will not be overturned anytime soon for the reasons he listed and everybody knows it. Your favorite candidate may rail against homo marriage but in the end, he will do the same thing about it as Trump except he will not be as honest. He may not like it, as I do not but it is what it is. I am guessing Trump wants to concentrate on doing things he believes he actually has a chance of getting done and not get into stuff he knows he can’t.

Because he has said that he supports traditional marriage.

In fact, he supports it so much he keeps engaging in it over & over.
