Donald Trump Considering Taking Pledge Not to Run as Third-Party Candidate
ABC News/Good Morning America ^ | 8/10/15 | Jon Karl

Donald Trump may soon do what Republican leaders have been asking the billionaire candidate to do -- pledge not to run as an independent candidate for president, a senior Trump adviser told ABC News.

Trump refused to take that pledge at the start of Thursday's GOP debate but is now seriously considering promising not to run as an independent if he does not win the Republican nomination, the adviser said.

I understand that. I just don’t feel Trump has evolved, at all. I think that is dangerous. He’s dividing the party, which will in-turn get a liberal elected or a far left Republican (Jeb).

Let’s face facts. Unless he takes the pledge, Republican voters will think he is a spoiler that will elect Hillary. If he is to have any credible chance at the nomination as slim as it may be, he has to take the pledge.

Pledges are meaningless - no difference than taking an ‘oath’ Like our dark skin o-king, who ALSO took an oath. They mean nothing other than words. Ask many of our GOPe- they agree.

It will all hinge on how he sees his potential service. If he’s in it for personal temporary benefits, we are looking at trouble. He’d bribe along with the best of them. If he’s in it for the sake of a larger vision that has catapulted him to prominence, that isn’t so certain a fate.

As a private entrepreneur with $9 billion worth of assets, Donald has had to play a political game from coast to coast to get his empire going in the Empire State. Is that right? No. Is that the sad reality of the world? Yes. Even Proverbs talks about bribes, which are not given outright (that would land him in jail) but in the form of campaign favors.

What I am saying is let’s pray and hope, just like the Good Book tells us to. God is bigger than the heart of the king; like water, He turns it where He wishes.

Am I praying for God to bless Donald Trump? Well if I should pray for God to bless my enemy, surely I should pray for God to bless Donald Trump. And not with an attitude that it is certainly in vain.

In contradistinction, I see a hand of power on his situation which would evolve Trump if he accepts it.

He could refuse. I refuse to prejudge that he WILL refuse.

Dumb move if he does it. You don’t give up your bargaining leverage at the beginning of a fight.

Unless, of course, you’re John F’n Kerry.

If Donald actually gets on the ballot as a Republican in some of the primaries and then decides to run as an independent after a poor showing in the GOP primaries, it will be proof positive that he is only intent on trying to insure a Republican does not win.

That's because a number of states have "sore loser" laws, that would prevent him from competing in the general as an independent if he ran in the primary for one of the parties. So if he competes in primaries in any number of states with a significant number of electoral votes, it would be virtually impossible for him to win enough electoral votes to capture the presidency as an independent.

Get a clue - according to the GOPe we ALL should be democrats. We are not invited under the GOPe tent unless we play by their rules. We are not invited under the Rat tent as we are hated and we are extreme. So, in which party do WTP (a majority) fit, exactly? We do need a second party as it is very apparent to any who can see - the country now has only one ‘party’ and few of us wish to RSVP to either invitation.

Didn’t Trump admit, during the debate, that he gives money to buy favors? Isn’t that the definition of a politician? Doing things for favors?

He also said that the system is broken. (emphasis mine)

TRUMP: I will tell you that our system is broken. I gave to many people, before this, before two months ago, I was a businessman. I give to everybody. When they call, I give. And do you know what? When I need something from them two years later, three years later, I call them, they are there for me. And that’s a broken system.

Really...You know this how? I tell you he can win as an independent. I think both the Democrats and the Republicans will vote for him. People have had it.

The moment he does that the Republican party owns him.

They’ll screw with him until he has no choice, and then blame him for “lying”.

He’s dealing with people who wouldn’t know a scruple if it bit them on the nose.

They’ve sold us out. They’ve sold our party out. They’ve sold our nation out. Now Trump is supposed to believe they won’t sell him out?

You trust him to abide by his word and not “evolve” again. I do not.

Great. Enjoy Hillary or Bernie. You’ll have yourself to thank for it. This is big boy politics, not some rebellious teen acting out.

Nonsense. That ignorant argument is about as old and boring as "It's Bush's fault". GOPe RINO jackboot lickers need to get with the program. All we've done by voting lesser evil is push the GOP to the left, and it's ultimate demise. If we get Hitlery or Bernie, we deserve it.

Take the pledge because its irrelevant. Think about how many "Republicans" today vote like leftist liberals! Take the pledge and remember the party is irrelevant. If they do something to really make you want to run third party - then do it.

A stupid pledge won't make any difference. Bush pledged not to raise taxes. ALL of the GOP pledged to do "everything" to stop Obamacare. They didn't do that either.

I’m pretty Conservative. But here’s what gets me. While crazy leftwing liberals will vote for candidates they see as merely moderate leftwingers, Conservatives are completely against voting for a candidate that doesn’t satisfy their every desire. And that’s fine. Just don’t be surprised when we have a legit Socialist in the oval office.
