"Does the Bible have authority over the Constitution?" That "gotcha" question was put to Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday. The retired neurosurgeon, however, didn't fall for the bait.
NBC's Chuck Todd said it's a question from a Facebook poster by one Victor Roush, adding that it's a "simple question." "Does the Bible have authority over the constitution?"
"That is not a simple question by any stretch of the imagination," Carson, retired neurosurgeon retorted.
"I think probably what you have to do is ask a very specific question about a specific passage of the Bible and a specific portion of the Constitution," Carson added. "I don't think you can answer that question other than out of very specific contexts."
Todd left the answer there, saying, "We'll see if Mr. Roush liked that answer or not."
About the Obama administration's Iran nuclear deal, Carson said, "It is perhaps the worst deal in the history of the United States."
Todd also asked Carson what he expects from the "Voters First" Republican Forum debate to be held Monday.
"Well, I hope that people will get an opportunity to see who I really am, not who other people have said that I am," Carson said. "And will have an opportunity to actually see what I think about a variety of subjects. You know, I have a tendency to be asked about medical things. And very seldom do I get asked about, you know, other types of political things that are important."
More than a dozen Republican presidential candidates are expected to take part in the debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Thursday.
During the interview, Todd referred to Carson as "the other non-politician who's been breaking through."
"I think it's a tremendous help," Carson said, about his lack of political background. "It's a tremendous aid because fewer people are talking about my lack of political experience now. And that's good because, you know, experience can come from a variety of different places. And certainly the life that you have led, you know, in my case, you know, solving complex problems, being involved in corporate America, starting a national nonprofit, you get an enormous amount of experience doing these things, particularly in solving problems. And, you know, it's an erroneous thought that only political experience is expedient."
I would say that our constitution was heavily influenced by the free will ideologies of the bible but deliberately written so neither interferes with the other if properly interpreted.
An individual or religious organization should not be forced to support or engage in an activity that is strictly against their religion. By the same token, a non religious person should not be forced to support or engage in religious activities.
(personally I never cared for the “faith based initiatives” any more than I want to support abortion)
The Constitution Of The United States of America was written with God in mind of all those who wrote it...
They believed in God, which isn’t popular to do today, at least not publically...
So Yes I do believe that the Bible does have some Authority over the Constitution....
The Ten Commandments, for example, are a way for politicians to live by, the Golden Rule is another example how politicians should live by...
The Constitution was written how to Govern the United States and politicians are the ones who we vote to govern, so we also should believe the Bible over the Constitution while voting politicians into office to run OUR Government...
I saw that and I think he handled the question well.
But the Constitution provides the rights and responsibilities of the government of the United States
If one accepts the above point, then there has to be a higher authority than the Constitution. But we won’t acknowledge the Higher Authority like our founders did so we worship the Constitution, at least we used to............................
The Constitution is consistent with The Bible, and vice-versa.
Jesus never did, but certainly some of his so-called followers did...
It is a simple question.
The founders of the Constitution did not consider it to be at odds with Judeo-Christian ethics at all. In fact, the Constitution is specifically aligned with the ethics system. How could it be anything else? There’s no way the Constitution would have been agreed to if it was, in any way, in conflict with Judeo-Christian beliefs.
The real question is, why do liberals think the Bible is, in any way, at odds with the Constitution? ...maybe because they’ve continually reinterpreted it beyond anything sane and have distorted it into meaning something anti-Christian.
The funny thing about the question is that a.) the interviewer does not know squat about what's in the bible, and b.) doesn't care squat about what's in the Constitution unless he can use it to bash Christians.
I'm afraid most reporters would just look at you totally confused...
These days, indeed.
the Golden Rule is another example how politicians should live by...
What is the source of the Golden Rule? It is important to know the source of quotes and guidelines. I will let you do your own research.
That is the perfect answer that comes straight from Jesus Christ Himself
He needs to get rid of the you know, the you knows, you know?
“Interesting question. Some have asked if the Koran has authority over the Constitution? Since this question does not pertain to my campaign or the issues at hand, I am going to let Mr Roush do his own research on teachings of various religions and draw his own conclusions”

I keep telling my kids, stop saying “It’s like...”
Matthew Chapter 7 Verses 12-14
“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, or this is the Law and the Prophets.
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction , and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are a few who find it”
I have always been taught that if you are kind to people, animals, not necessarily will those same people, animals will be kind back, but kindness will be shown to you or given to you by someone else or another act you didn’t expect.
Anyone can enter a ‘wide’ gate, but it takes a person with faith to enter the narrow gate....example: your having a problem, you go to several people to help, they can’t or won’t or don’t know how, but if you go to the Lord you will find the way thru the problem your having.
If we don’t have the faith in Our Lord, we will have a long, hard journey in live, but with the love and faith in Our Lord, our journey will be with happiness and peace along life’s highway.
This is the way I have lived my life, and I have seen problems but always the Lord has helped me thru them....
If any one in journalism...(heh, heh, heh) had the cojones to ask her...that person would be killed by the lightning bolts that would flash from her eyes and those surrounding them would be maimed by the fire and brimstone spewing out of her a-...er, her mouth.
Our Founding Fathers certainly read the Bible and our Constitution is framed in biblical truths.
God established human government and the rule of law primarily to keep man's sinful nature and passions in check (Rom 3:20).The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are based on and compatible with Divine law concepts.
