Looking Away From Abortion
New York Times ^ | July 25, 2015 | By Ross Douthat

Posted on 07/26/2015 2:23:40 AM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

IN an essay in his 1976 collection, “Mortal Lessons,” the physician Richard Selzer describes a strange suburban scene. People go outside in the morning in his neighborhood, after the garbage trucks have passed, and find “a foreignness upon the pavement,” a softness underfoot.

Looking down, Selzer first thinks he sees oversize baby birds, then rubber baby dolls, until the realization comes that the street is littered with the tiny, naked, all-too-human bodies of aborted fetuses.

Later, the local hospital director speaks to Selzer, trying to impose order on the grisly scene. It was an accident, of course: The tiny corpses were accidentally “mixed up with the other debris” instead of being incinerated or interred. “It is not an everyday occurrence. Once in a lifetime, he says.”

And Selzer tries to nod along: “Now you see. It is orderly. It is sensible. The world is not mad. This is still a civilized society."

“But just this once, you know it isn’t. You saw, and you know.”

Because dwelling on that content gets you uncomfortably close to Selzer’s tipping point — that moment when you start pondering the possibility that an institution at the heart of respectable liberal society is dedicated to a practice that deserves to be called barbarism.

Never thought I'd see that line printed in the NYT.

Most of the rabid supporters of killing pre-birth babies have no chance of ever being pregnant. The evil they embrace is aimed at God, the Creator. They are doing Satan’s work. The disgrace is that five members of the Supreme Court agree with them, in spite of the “right to life” stated as preeminent to our nation’s founding.

All this is because the politicians are deathly afraid of the man-hating feminazis and don’t want to incur their wrath.

My "fetus" is now 62 years old, my husband who was put up for adoption at birth, lived his first 3 months raised by Catholic nuns. Until his "real" parents choose him to be their own, God Bless them, I love them so much for that!!

The story told was they had too many children and had to give him up, don't know if it is true, but in 1953 if abortion was legal, he probably would have been aborted.

Here's the thing most people are missing: the relentless ongoing scheme to move the goal posts that define the beginning and the end of life so that they eventually converge. It's the ultimate outcome of the effort to define the value of human life in terms of its "social utility". This effectively strips you of your inalienable right to live.

And notice the subtle reset of the corollary of this monstrous and inhuman scheme: the discussion has moved from whether such things should be done to who decides when and to whom these atrocities should be inflicted.

Ross is their token actual Catholic, he is still allowed to write actual Catholic pieces. I have read some of his other Catholic stuff and I don’t disagree with a lot of it. Such a nice Sunday shock.

And this one: Human beings that the nice, idealistic medical personnel at Planned Parenthood have spent their careers crushing, evacuating, and carving up for parts.

The anger, hatred, and expressed views of people who favor slaughtering living humans, against those who favor not slaughtering living humans, is very revealing.

An expression of defense for the defenseless human is considered pure evil by them.

The slaughter of living humans is considered the moral and proper thing to do by them.

Not many topics reveal the pure evil mind better than the abortion debate.

Chicken.

I just had an artistic vision.

Parked in front of abortion clinics, a
tractor trailer with chicken cages, and
in each one a baby doll.

Slaughter is the correct term.

Yes it was a nice shock.

Despite the advocates for it and their satisfaction with seeing innocent humans slaughtered, abortion is what it is, and fewer people find it acceptable every single day.

Contrary to them seeing all the good things that come from abortion, one can only imagine what God thinks seeing His little miracles chopped up and then served up.

The feminazis are fit to be tied.

I didn't know they were into that sort of thing.

[It looks like a tipping point of sentiment might be getting approached. Why here, it makes no more logical sense based on what we know than it made logical sense to throw the doors wide open on abortion in the first place.]

Obama is the first president to vigorously and publicly promote abortion without a hint of moral qualm. This was highlighted when he told an assembly of Planned Parenthood executives: “God bless you.” Many people who tolerate abortion still view it as a necessary evil. But in the ideology Obama represents “evil” is an archaic concept.

But in the end, Planned Parenthood’s defenders insist, listening to an abortionist discuss manipulating the “calvarium” (that is, the dying fetus’s skull) so that it emerges research-ready from the womb is fundamentally no different than listening to a doctor discuss heart surgery or organ transplants.

No different.

Except that one is intended to extend life, the other to end it.

Perhaps from a spiritual point of view, the recent "gay marriage" decision really was the last straw, and now with political tar and feathers unavailable (thanks to a weak Congress and a bold usurper in the White House) the people finally reach out to spiritual tar and feathers instead. And they find it, but it is Satan, not people, who is going to get the treatment. Perhaps.

The issue has been hidden for so long and Limbaugh points out how his golfing buddies hate these social issues. Praise the Lord that this atrocity along with all of the other moral atrocities have a Light shined on them.

This is Ross Douthat. He's the NYT's token conservative --- always worth reading, ofen very good ---- and a Catholic to boot.

And I mean "to boot" --- they're probably booting him down the playing field as we speak.
