A black woman found dead in a Texas jail days after she was arrested following a traffic stop will be buried on Saturday in a Chicago suburb as investigators gather more details about the circumstances of her incarceration and death.
The funeral for Sandra Bland, 28, will be held at DuPage African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lisle, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, followed by burial in a nearby cemetery.

The toxicology report showed she had “substantial amounts of marijuana” in her system at the time of her death. Further results are pending. Some are saying she must have ingested marijuana during the traffic stop to hide it. There is also speculation she hid it somewhere on her body and took it while in jail. To my knowledge this is still unclear.
A woman is stopped for a minor traffic violation. She ends up dead in the jail. Something happened in between and I don’t think it’s going look good on the officer’s next performance review. IMHO.
Back at you. You see nothing wrong with a ubitiquitous police force pulling everyone in sight over for whatever reason crosses their tiny little minds.
You see nothing wrong in paying taxes to support such a ubitiquitous police force - in fact, you joyfully SUPPORT such a police force, and any of their actions, without question.
You're arguing with me in defence of such a police force.
The Founding Fathers would have had a HUGE problem with such a police force.
Are you sure you're on the correct website? This is a conservative Constitutional site, and lots of us like to ask ourselves the question "What Would The Founders Have Done" [WWTFHD]. :)
She incited the cop?
By not putting a cigarette out?
How does that bootshine taste?
You don’t think being called a MF’er as a cop about 5 times isn’t incitement? How does that left wing brainwashing taste?
Something happened. Blame the officer.
Sure, why not.
One of the Founders would have spit Beechnut in that dude's eye, and corrected the situation with his old 45...
No what started it was his REQUEST to put out her cigarette and her refusal.
Then it was off to “gonna teach you a lesson” land.
I’m quite sure bland hung herself.
I’m also quite sure the cop was power tripping.
The cop “requested” that Bland put out her
cigarette. She declined his request. That
pissed off the cop so he ordered her out of
the car. Technically he may have had the
authority to order her to step out but in
court a mediocre attorney would have the cop
explain his vehicle exit demand and the judge
would kick the cop in the ass. Case dismissed.
As it was, the cop was assigned to desk jockey
duty because he violated department traffic stop
policy and courtesy protocol.
Maybe .. but I suspect he was suspended because he had no reasonable right to tell her to put out her cigarette (unless she threatened him with it; nor demand she get out of her car. All he had to do was write her a ticket and let her be on her way.
My suspicion .. he could smell the pot .. either from the inside of the car, or when she opened her mouth to speak.
Remember, when officers are trained, one of the first things they learn is what POT smells like. You never forget it; you can smell it a mile away.
She didnt call him anything until he ordered out of the car for refusing his REQUEST to put out her cigarette.
I would have said the same thing...I dont have to put my cigarette out,I’m in my own car.
He was going to give her a warning until the moment she refused to put out her cigarette....so the reason he arrested her was?
Disrespect?
I blame the officer for losing control of the situation. Not her death.
Then why doesnt he say “I smell pot mam get out of the car”?...and since he had his head in her car on the passanger side BEFORE he wrote here a warning.....that is nothing but speculation on your part.
If he smelled pot why would he write her up a warning?
BTW The founding fathers endorsed law and order as matter of business in our fledgling nation. Law breakers were dealt with then, just as now. But left leaning people like you and Crim who pull the "boot brutality" our of your limited vocabulary are terribly short sighted.
Bingo.
Which would be a possible reason why she lit up a cigarette.
And it would also be a possible reason why he told her to get out of the car.
That is all I need to know about you.
She started with that AFTER he started assaulting and battering her.
I just realized something in re-watching the video. The officer broke the speed law on-campus by zooming up behind her.
So the officer was a perp, also.
Officer Perp-Perv. It's got a nice ring to it...
But you said that something happened, you offered no specifics about what the cop did, and then you blamed the cop.
